Is there an uglier male fashion than a smart suit worn with an unbuttoned shirt and no tie? Almost invariably displayed on television nowadays by politicians and newscasters attempting to look "cool and with it", the actual result is that we are obliged to stare at several inches of pallid neck, bobbing Adam's apple and sparsely haired chest - thus distracting us from the seriousness of the news story.

It's noticeable that this style of undress has largely become the habit of middle aged men (John Prescott is now doing it - heaven help us!). It can't be long, therefore, before style-conscious younger men switch to something more becoming than a smart suit and an unbuttoned shirt.
May I suggest two alternatives to this scruffy fashion? Try the Nehru Jacket which was very popular in the 70's this style of jacket is actually based on the Indian sherwani apparently (see Wikipedia. It's smart, attractive and colourful, not to mention the fact that the high collar covers up those nasty double chins and unattractive wobbly throats perfectly!
Alternatively, how about the exquisitely-tied cravats worn by those 18th-Century dandies? At any rate though, lets loose the scruffy unbuttoned shirt thing and let's bring tasteful good looks back to our television screens!

No idea who Big Jim is...
Today, grey suit (new), light pink shirt (double-cuffed), top button undone and tie in windsor knot down to between first and second.
Have a good day guys, and keep those ties loose!!

Did this guy do his second button up again, after his collar was roughly felt, or did he leave it undone? How did he adjust his tie afterwards.... I bet his shirt was well and truly creased. I think under those circumstances, I may have at work a couple of extra shirts in case that happened to me, so that I could change into..!
The guy who got my tie from underneath my collar at the back tugged downwards, which made my tie come up and nearly strangle me. Of course it was all in fun and I paid him back for all his efforts afterwards... :)
Do you wear double-cuff shirts, or single cuff... and do you always wear windsor knot ties?

Case closed fellas

The collar only gets badly ruffled when he twists and tugs it about for a long time, but hes not often that rough (although he was with this guy yesterday :) - nearly as bad as that next manager, it was hilarious to see him get reefed up and roughly dragged about - and I mean roughly - the whole back of his collar twisted and crumpled into the bosses fist!).
It sounds funny what that guy did to your tie - what, did he reef it backwards or downwards, and how long was he tugging it for? Have you seen this sort of thing happen or done to you often (I have lots I could tell about - 'collar feeling' incidents seem to follow me about!)?
Other peoples stories welcome!

My tie has gradually become looser (all by itself today) I love that... do you adjust your tie during the day.... any of you guys?

You pulling this guys collar apart sound fun. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on his collar... :) The guy who gripped mine somehow got the tie from under the collar (it must have just been poking underneath.) He almost strangled me, but it was fun at the same time, if you know what I mean.
Wearing same colour shirts and ties sounds cool.. I usually go for contrast. what exactly do you mean about the megaloose tie looking more subtle? Interested to hear. Well interested in this chat... full stop!!

Wow....you look superb in your restaurant gear. Black shirt, white tie and two buttons undone. Wide open collar.... I like that look. Just wish I could adopt it here... much stricter there. Although I have my top two buttons undone, the second button undone is always hidden by the tie. So it seems as if I only have one undone. :) Do you guys think that it is more comfortable to have the second one undone, or does it make not much difference if your top one is undone and your tie is pretty loose anyway?

How loose, yes, I have got my own back on the guy who keeps messing with me tie - roughly pulling his loose (sometimes actually gripping the collar - pulling each side roughly apart), he usually tries to straighten it up again after but it's always looser than before! How about you with this guy who pulled the back of your tie (how did that feel by the way - how exactly did he grip it and how rough was he?)?
How loose
Your tie is down to what level? Hope you're all doing well, guys!
