Is there an uglier male fashion than a smart suit worn with an unbuttoned shirt and no tie? Almost invariably displayed on television nowadays by politicians and newscasters attempting to look "cool and with it", the actual result is that we are obliged to stare at several inches of pallid neck, bobbing Adam's apple and sparsely haired chest - thus distracting us from the seriousness of the news story.

It's noticeable that this style of undress has largely become the habit of middle aged men (John Prescott is now doing it - heaven help us!). It can't be long, therefore, before style-conscious younger men switch to something more becoming than a smart suit and an unbuttoned shirt.
May I suggest two alternatives to this scruffy fashion? Try the Nehru Jacket which was very popular in the 70's this style of jacket is actually based on the Indian sherwani apparently (see Wikipedia. It's smart, attractive and colourful, not to mention the fact that the high collar covers up those nasty double chins and unattractive wobbly throats perfectly!
Alternatively, how about the exquisitely-tied cravats worn by those 18th-Century dandies? At any rate though, lets loose the scruffy unbuttoned shirt thing and let's bring tasteful good looks back to our television screens!

What are you wearing now?

You must look really cool at work - I also like whites, light blues and light pinks. Always windsor knot, fat knot and usually two buttons undone - with my tie hiding the second button undone ;) What is the most daring you've dressed? Do you put your tie on last thing in the morning? Do you wear it to work, or put it on when you get there? Do you wear a sweater over your shirt?

Usually wear double cuff white or light coloured shirts (pink, light blue), and sometimes check. As I say top button always undone but cant go further than halfway between top and 2nd button (unless I want to risk getting my collar felt also!). 2nd button always comes undone with a large tug of the tie outside the office though! Usually wear spread collars but button down the odd time (wear a normal tie knot then and can usually get away with it much looser - down to 2nd button as it stays in place better).
Had to wear blazer at school (but usually had it off) and usually had my top two buttons undone and tie knot down to the 3rd button but often got collared by the teachers (guess thats why it amuses me seeing it happen to other guys!). You guys seen that sort of thing happen or it happen to you?!

You must look good with your tux and bowtie loose (wish I could see you like that - you could give me ideas!) What about wearing a second button undone with your tux.....!!??
Remind me what you wear for work and how you wear it :)

Top button undone, deffo... nice white shirt (double-cuff), decent tie, windsor tie knot, deffo. Do you have a suit? If you want to tighten your tie as much as is comfortable and then definitely loosen it afterwards :) I would probably keep the 2nd button done up, unless you can hide the fact that it's undone by spreading the large part of your tie over the undone part.
Do you normally tuck the thin part of your tie in your shirt, in the label at the back of the thick bit or leave it loose? Do you normally wear spread collar shirts? What about cuffs?
