Motorhead's legendary frontman Lemmy dies aged 70

Motorhead's frontman Lemmy has died only a couple of days after finding out that he had cancer.

Lemmy, who also played bass and sang in Hawkwind formed Motorhead in 1975 and recorded 22 albums with critically acclaimed hits including as Ace of Spades. As Lemmy of Motorhead, he became known for his fast and furious bass guitar playing and gravelly voice.

The band said on social media, "We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren't words."

Another fallen hero and a great loss to music. We've lost so many great people in recent years and I've been privileged to see Motorhead quite a few times recently.

Where's the raw talent these days? Who have we got to replace great artists like Lemmy, Gary Moore, BB King and John Lord to name just a few?

That's right. We've got Justin Bieber, One Direction and Rihanna. Just peachy... We're doomed!

Another sad day yesterday. I think that's enough for a while. RIP David Bowie.

Must confess to being a bit of a fan and have been lucky enough to see them on quite a few occasions, the most recent last year. I was also fortunate enough to see both Gary Moore and BB King before they passed on. Live for today and never pass up an opportunity to see or do something as that opportunity may never come again. I think that's a sentiment Lemmy would have agreed with. RIP Lemmy.

I can't claim to have been a Motorhead fan; (too much good music, not enough time) but I liked what I heard and I've seen Lemmy in a few of those good music documentaries they show on BBC4 and loved his sense of humour.

He said something along the lines of "they say live fast & die young, but I aways thought living fast & dying old was more fun". At least he got to 70, just.

He was a true original and the world will be a sadder place without him.
