Jack the Chipper restaurant boycotted by customers

A restaurant called Jack the Chipper has been boycotted by customers who say it glorifies the serial killer.  Owner Recep Turhan, 52, fears his chippy may have to close weeks after opening.

Recep, 52, said: "People shout abuse at us through the front door. They think I hate women."

"They were historical events.  I wasn’t celebrating what he did.  It's a play on words.  This boycott is ruining my business.  It started online and has spread."

There's a number of things to say about this story:

First of all, it's ancient history and if people can't see it for what it is then they must be very short sighted.

It all started online.  Well of course it did, that's where most stupidity begins these days, on a Facebook or Twitter post - where else?  You just have to look at some of the rubbish that's been circulating throughout the COVID pandemic to get a feel for what some people are really like.

Oh, the people, the people.  So many haters and trolls with nothing better to do than be keyboard warriors slamming others because they don't like what they're doing.

Maybe they're not the kind of customers you want anyway!

No, it's not fake, it's been widely reported not just on socials. Can totally understand why people don't trust stuff on Facebook though.

People need to be not offended so easily. Personally, if I lived there and heard about the boycott I'd make a point of going in! Freedom of speech and a sense of humour are rapidly disappearing.

That's the problem these days. Too many people with too much time on their hands.
