I have a gripe with Renault and my Renault Clio. Around three years ago I stretched my personal finances to buy a Renault Clio 182 Sport from a main dealership in Worcester. It was my belief that a new car with a warranty would give me hassle-free motoring for at least three years. As you have probably guessed, I am nearing the end of my warranty period and I am truly petrified of owning the car after the warranty has expired.
The first problem with my Renault Clio 182 Sport occurred the day after I had purchased it. Had I known what was to follow, I would have asked that they take the car back there and then. Since that day I have returned the car to the dealership on no fewer than 30 occasions for warranty repairs to be performed. Yes, that's right, my Renault Clio has been back to the dealership almost once a month for 3 years!
I am currently awaiting their answer on 2 outstanding warranty repairs and was promised a "call back within the hour". Well that was nearly nine days ago so needless to say I am not holding my breath here!
The quite frankly, 'shoddy' construction of the car....
The frankly, 'shoddy' construction of the car has been compounded by the local dealer's persistent failure to rectify ongoing problems and to cause new problems whilst "working" on the car. Renault UK are no help at all and refer me back to the dealer. I am going around in circles trying to get a fully functional car before the warranty expires. Considering the car has never been fully functional since the 2nd day of ownership I really don't expect this goal to be achieved.
My advice - be careful of Renault dealerships in Worcester, or better still never buy a Renault Clio. P.S. Please get out of the middle lane unless you're overtaking and don't give me the self righteous "But I'm doing the national speed limit" look as that as it is no excuse!

Alternatively, you are backtracking. One of the 2.
EmmaR...I took Boblet's advice and read some of the posts he mentions. Needless to say, his trolling 'features' throughout the comments sections of each one...and is always insulting and unwelcome. He has an existing dislike for German cars, refers to Bradford as "Bradistan" and makes thinly-veiled racist comments. Smacks of xenophobia from a bygone era.

He thought i was seeking clarification of the frying-pan/fire analogy as if it needs explaining to a grown man in the 21st century.
Boblet...if you are trying to suggest that French cars are more reliable than German cars then please either explicitly say so...or go get the full sized Bob so we can have a grown ups conversation.
Patronising enough?

In terms you might understand Boblet: your backside is at the top of your legs and your elbow is the bendy thing halfway along your arm.

German car Fire. Comprendi?

The car continued to deteriorate over the next 2 years and finally gave up the ghost having just reached 100k miles. An engine rebuild or new engine was required, as informed by an independent Renault specialist (ie trustworthy diagnosis). I effectively sold the car for scrap as this work costs more than the car was worth.
So...the obituary for my Renault Clio 182 reads like this.
Born 2004 - Died 2011 (101k miles)
The most responsive, eager, dynamic, hair-raising car i have ever owned. But owning it was like dating a supermodel....fun, exciting & fast but moody, expensive and extremely high maintenance. One careful and caring owner wasn't enough to stop you from taking your own life. Rest in Peace, young one.
A word of advice....if you are tempted by a Renault because you think it represents better value than a german equivalent, think again. No two cars are the same but over the lifetime of the car, your TCO (total cost of ownership) is more important than the initial purchase price. I have since purchased a Mk5 Golf GTi and i think it will work out less expensive than the Clio 182.
Happy motoring.
