Travellers that don't actually travel anywhere
I'd like to bring up the subject of travellers and indeed the travelling community as it has been on the news this week. How can people call themselves travellers when they don't actually travel anywhere?

People should be fined heavily for dropping litter
For a start, litter makes a place look horribly untidy but that’s only one of the issues that it raises. Hygiene is a big one, with rats and seagulls being attracted to discarded foodstuffs.

Friends who don't make an effort to stay in touch
It's understandable that people have a lot going on, the weekends are often crammed with stuff that needs doing. What does irk me though is leaving messages and very rarely getting a response. Is it too much to ask?
19-Feb-11 17:03

Discrimination and prejudice against single parents
People who make discriminatory statements about race, religion and indeed single parents, tend to be uneducated, prejudiced and unable to cope with the notion that anyone else could be different to them.

You're going to grow old one day too
If there's one thing that really annoys me, it's they way that so many people frequently complain about the elderly these days. I was just on FB and a friend of a cousin had posted a comment about an old person.

People that won't move over on a narrow pavement
What ever happened to common courtesy in public? Something as simple as letting someone pass seems to be an alien concept to a lot of people walking down the streets these days, old and young alike.

Land access and trespass dispute with farmer
I recently bought an old cottage on a river served by bridleway and footpath. My property is 'land-locked' by the surrounding fields owned by the farmer and he has made access very difficult indeed.

School gate mums give me the cold shoulder
Has anyone else noticed that when you drop your kids off at school some of the mums are actually more childish than their children? I moved to a new area and found myself subject to what I can only call bullying...
21-Sep-10 09:45

Rude teenagers have no manners
I've noticed for a long while that people (particularly teenagers) just don't seem to have nay manners nowadays and they'd rather shove you out of the way than wait. It's a long time since I've heard the words 'Excuse me'.
16-Sep-10 08:47

How to deal with a busy body neighbour?
I have lived in my flat for about 5 years now and I love it here. It's right next to two town centres and most of of my neighbours are great - except for one smelly old racist busybody who won't mind her own business.
23-Jul-10 16:21

The underclass ruin the nice weekend weather
The summer has begun and with it comes the underclass mating season in all its glory: shirts off, car windows down, obnoxious music blaring across peaceful gardens, cheap alcohol and no regard for anyone else.
23-Jun-10 18:12

Thin people abuse - weight comments are offensive
Why is it that people who think it is perfectly acceptable to make comments and jokes about how thin you are? Not all thin people are thin by choice and some of us have to work very hard to gain weight.
27-Apr-10 18:58

No spitting at the bus stop please
I was at a bus stop the other week when a man came and stood at the stop and proceeded to spit every 20 seconds or so. The man was probably stood there for about 10 minutes and so there were splodges everywhere.
25-Mar-10 18:32

Car parked outside my house by selfish neighbour
I know I have no right to park outside my house but surely out of neighbourhood courtesy you would not park outside someone's house when they have no driveway and your car doesn't move often for a week at a time?
22-Mar-10 18:57

Neighbour parking in front of my house
I've asked them countless times not to allow their visitors to park outside our house and the response was 'What's the problem?' Well I think the problem is that some people are incredibly selfish and inconsiderate!

Manchester - city and town planning gone wrong!
Walk around Manchester city centre and you'll feel your spirits sink as you are bombarded at every turn with the 'grey', the 'concrete', the 'dirt', the 'bleakness'. It's a perfect example of town planning gone wrong.
25-Jan-10 10:32

Show elderly people some respect please
As an elderly pensioner, I have been aware for the past few years that here in the UK, younger people appear to have little respect for the old folks. I can only assume that their parents have failed to instill such respect in them.
11-Jan-10 18:39

Nearly run down by a mobility scooter
I've just come back from the shops and had a lucky escape having nearly been run down by one of these mobility scooters you see all over the place these days. These things are a becoming a real menace to pedestrians!
28-Sep-09 18:56

Gender equality, myth or reality?
I'm not against it the idea of gender equality. Actually, I'm all for it. I grew up amongst peers of both sexes whom I considered to be my equals and thought it would always be that way.
14-Jul-09 11:57

Parking problems outside my house
I live on a street where, during a working day and some evenings, parking is an absolute nightmare. I usually cylcle to work but on those occasions I use my car there's never any spaces when I return.
11-Jun-09 14:34

Breastfeeding or formula, it's my choice
I'm currently pregnant with my first child and I'm shocked at the amount of prejudice against bottle feeding. It's disgusting that women are put under so much pressure to breastfeed, and made to feel like bad mothers if they don't.
17-Mar-09 13:51

Bullies on Internet discussion forums
Forum bullying or cyber bullying has become a widespread issue throughout the Internet. As a former moderator I've encountered it it's various guises many times. How do you deal with cyber bullies when your hands are tied?

Can't pay the rent, housing association no help
After a period of ilness and my savings now gone I find myself struggling to pay rent. A little help from the housing association now would get me back on my feet, but it would seem that I'm likely to be in debt instead.

Justice for marginalised pensioners
Is it just me, or does anyone else agree that a minority of responsible pensioners are being marginalised, exploited and ignored by the government? Read on and determine for yourself whether you fall within the category.
27-Jan-09 16:00

On benefits versus working for a living
I think it's disgusting that some people work hard, pay their taxes and do not depend on the government for handouts, yet are some that will happily live off the state without ever doing an honest days work.
8-Jun-08 16:52

Fortnightly rubbish collection and fines
Quite frankly local councils take the biscuit but apparently not the rubbish these days. I've just read an article in the news about a guy who now has a criminal record - for overfilling his wheelie bin!
23-Apr-08 00:09

Teenagers deserve respect too
Not all teenagers are the same. I’m 14 years old, and I don’t hang around the streets at night drinking and swearing. I don’t cause trouble, and I have never been in trouble with the police.
26-Dec-07 12:58

The immigrant hierarchy in the UK
The immigration policies in the UK need to be stricter, if only to give the immigrants here a better reputation. I am a Caucasian, blue eyed, English-as-a-first-language immigrant to England – married to a British man.
10-Oct-07 17:13

Elderly people assume teenagers are yobs
What is really very annoying is the self-righteous and sometimes pitying nature of some of this elderly people in society, particularly towards teenagers and youngsters. It's actually quite upsetting some of the comments I hear.
26-Sep-07 15:00

Unclear and misleading language
Can anyone explain the obsession nowadays with changing long-established, well-understood words for new words which are unclear and misleading? Some of these changes are actually detrimental to the running of a business.
29-Aug-07 17:30

Waste removal and recycling policy
Our council has decided to change their waste removal and recycling policy. We are now all recycling and having our bins (recyclable and regular waste) collected only every other week.

Thoughts from a smoker
We have as smokers of the world endured the past, just short of a week the Smoking Ban, and it has proved to be exactly what I expected with the majority of the pub users smoking outside.
6-Jul-07 07:38

Heading towards a police state?
Are we really sleep walking towards a police state? Britain has by far the largest number of cameras in the world with an estimated five million in public and private hands. That's about one for every 12 people.
5-Jul-07 21:21

UK Council Tax system doesn't work
How much longer must we put up with the insane system of Council Tax imposed on us in this country? My Council Tax bill is over £1,200 a year and it takes away about one fifth of my pension.
1-Jul-07 17:07

Fed up with people who hurl abuse
I am fed up with people who hurl abuse. I am overweight, so I walk into work in an attempt to loose some weight. On my way there I regularly have to suffer verbal abuse from kids going to school, thugs in vans and car drivers.
19-Jun-07 20:48

Benefit-claiming council estate residents
I think that society would be better off without a large majority of the benefit-claiming, council estate cases in this country. Why should we pay to keep them in the style they have so clearly become accustomed to?
21-Mar-07 15:53

Teenagers are human beings too
Okay, so why is the current generation of teenagers being victimised? Let's face it, we are because there's hardly a day goes by that you don't see something in the news or on television.
12-Mar-07 21:05

Why is everyone so superficial these days?
As I get older (58 years young) and reflect on life that though people in general have more spending power, more consumable income than 50 years ago; I have to ask are they really more content?
8-Mar-07 18:18

The misunderstood youth of today
I wonder what sort of person I could have been if I was able to have the kind of parental support young people have today. Are the misunderstood youth of today a direct result of misunderstood parents?
20-Feb-07 15:39

Are you more than a piece of data held on a database?
Hello, citizen number 20-29178 here.  Have you ever wondered how much of your personal data is stored electronically? Probably not, however you really should consider it.
5-Feb-07 11:47

Rude shop staff lack basic good manners
A simple please and thank you are the most basic manners that everyone should employ in their day to day dealings with other people. It would seem however that some shop cashiers are just incapable of being polite.
25-Jan-07 17:08

Spitting in public places should be illegal
Spitting is such a disgusting habit. I just wish there were some divine power that would turn it around mid flight and fling it back in the faces of the morons that feel the need to spit all over the street in the first place!
15-Jan-07 14:07

Ticket machines that don't give change
My gripe is about council car parks. I am fed up with these ticket machines that don't give change. Do the people that operate these machines think that we wander around all day with pockets full of coins or something?
16-Nov-06 14:36

People who buy their council house
It makes my blood boil, when neighbours who have been very friendly for years, decide to buy their council house and then change completely over night. They turn into complete snobs
28-Sep-06 23:58

Increase the legal drinking age
I think the legal drinking age should be increased. Recently there have been far too many violent incidents amongst 18-20 year old which have been either alcohol induced or drug induced.
14-Sep-06 15:15

Society is going down the tubes
Maybe I'm just getting older, is it me or is society in general going down the tubes? Epsom has now become infested with sub blue-collar single parent chav scum.  I can only blame this on the near vicinity of council estates.
2-Sep-06 23:50

Lazy benefit sponger friends become a liability
These spongers on benefit who haven’t got the capability to earn a living are out to bring down others. I know what it is like to struggle on low income, but I would not sponge of others.
10-May-06 16:28

Boy racers on our streets should get a life
BOY RACERS - I'm really sick and tired of the so-called 'boy racers' with various types of customised cars, but all with loud exhausts. They treat the streets like a race track and the police just aren't interested.
20-Apr-06 11:19

No understanding for Transsexuals in society

19-Apr-05 14:03

Too many asylum seekers and refugees in the UK
So this is it the French have finally decided to succumb to closing the Sangatte camp, on the grounds that we in the UK accept half. Why? Have we not got enough ‘British Citizens’ already?
30-Sep-02 20:53

Rip off drink prices in trendy pubs and clubs
I know there's already an article on this web site that deals with dress code in bars and clubs but I think there are some other annoying features about these kinds of places the really needs to be pointed out before we all end up bankrupt.
1-Mar-02 15:48

Dress code in bars and clubs too strict
In this country our bars and clubs rip us off left right and centre with the cost of drinks or admission fees. To add insult to injury many of these places are now starting to insist on a dress code before you can even get through the door.
2-Sep-01 00:00

British pub closing time still too early
It seems incredible to me that in the year 2001 we british still cling to some crazy law that was introduced during the war to prevent munition factory workers from getting pissed up at night.
