CSA deduction from earnings leaves me broke
I was married 14 years and am now officially divorced. When we initially separated we came to a verbal arrangement for me to give a fixed amount towards my daughters upkeep as she still lives with her mother in the family home whereas I moved out. After about six weeks of this arrangement I received a letter from the CSA demanding 15% of my weekly wage which amounts to £140 a month. My monthly wage is only around £800 so it's still a fair chunk.
I had a bad month recently and missed a payment, so now the CSA have taken £350 off me today and will take another £350 off me on the 10th August!! I now have £14 to live on for the month after paying my rent. How can they be allowed to operate like this, taking money from you whenever they please with no warning?
My ex wife gets every benefit going and she works as I do, however I get nothing as I earn £14k a year and have been told by the Tax credit people I earn too much to qualify! I earn £9.08 an hour and I feel like jacking the job in in and going on the dole because I'd probably be better off.
I see my daughter twice a week as I am a shift worker and I've ALWAYS given maintenance money for her in some shape or form. The CSA will not listen to me and I basically feel like I've been found guilty without a fair trial. I always thought you were innocent until proven guilty in England? This madness that is the CSA must be stopped immediately as they are basically stealing money from responsible dads and they answer to no one as they are government backed... I am in a very bad place at the moment as not able to pay my way... totally at my wits end!

You made the little darlings you have a responsibility to PAY FOR THEM
I am divorced, have 2 kids an get five pounds a week off my ex husband to "support" them. So what does a fiver pay for?? Errrr....well that is one school dinner for each child per week (2.50/day). It does not pay for his share of bringing them up - the clothes, trips, shoes, books heating, food etc etc etc. He has them one night a every 2 weeks and does not see or contact either of them between these times.
So please stop bleating. Life for single resident parents is not as easy as you make out in most cases (I do admit that some do have it good but MOST don't).
I'm not bitter by the way - my kids KNOW who provides for and supports them. They see that their dad can afford to have quite a decent life but will not support them any more than 2.50 each a week. He has played the system and won.
It takes two to make them and two to support them - end of story. Stop moaning!!

I now find out that these arrears come from where they reduced the payments, they now say I owe the full ammount, they even included in this a rebate I was supposed to have got in 2003.
damn cheek you think well after contacting the agency on numerous occassions, and putting in numerous complaints , they say its what I got to pay and if it takes me 20 years to pay off then so be it, well i'm not going to give in over this im going to pursue this for as long as it takes.
i know im not the only one in this position and I would like to extend my sympathies to all the other victims of these bullies.
They are a government agency who think they can do as they please, but I think if enough people badger them, then something's go to change.

I assume chunky fry is a way of saying chip on my shoulder? Sure I have chip on my shoulder, a big one, what's wrong with that? It suits me better than wallowing in self pity.
