CSA deduction from earnings leaves me broke

I was married 14 years and am now officially divorced.  When we initially separated we came to a verbal arrangement for me to give a fixed amount towards my daughters upkeep as she still lives with her mother in the family home whereas I moved out.  After about six weeks of this arrangement I received a letter from the CSA demanding 15% of my weekly wage which amounts to £140 a month.  My monthly wage is only around £800 so it's still a fair chunk.

I had a bad month recently and missed a payment, so now the CSA have taken £350 off me today and will take another £350 off me on the 10th August!!  I now have £14 to live on for the month after paying my rent. How can they be allowed to operate like this, taking money from you whenever they please with no warning?

No money left at the end of the month My ex wife gets every benefit going and she works as I do, however I get nothing as I earn £14k a year and have been told by the Tax credit people I earn too much to qualify!  I earn £9.08 an hour and I feel like jacking the job in in and going on the dole because I'd probably be better off.

I see my daughter twice a week as I am a shift worker and I've ALWAYS given maintenance money for her in some shape or form.  The CSA will not listen to me and I basically feel like I've been found guilty without a fair trial.  I always thought you were innocent until proven guilty in England?  This madness that is the CSA must be stopped immediately as they are basically stealing money from responsible dads and they answer to no one as they are government backed...  I am in a very bad place at the moment as not able to pay my way... totally at my wits end!

Goodness me you non resident parents are so bitter aren't you!!

You made the little darlings you have a responsibility to PAY FOR THEM

I am divorced, have 2 kids an get five pounds a week off my ex husband to "support" them. So what does a fiver pay for?? Errrr....well that is one school dinner for each child per week (2.50/day). It does not pay for his share of bringing them up - the clothes, trips, shoes, books heating, food etc etc etc. He has them one night a every 2 weeks and does not see or contact either of them between these times.

So please stop bleating. Life for single resident parents is not as easy as you make out in most cases (I do admit that some do have it good but MOST don't).

I'm not bitter by the way - my kids KNOW who provides for and supports them. They see that their dad can afford to have quite a decent life but will not support them any more than 2.50 each a week. He has played the system and won.

It takes two to make them and two to support them - end of story. Stop moaning!!

Yes it is awful because my husband left me ove a year ago, just walked out, things were amicable for a while....then he moved in with a friend of mine...and she is a nasty piece of work and so he is listening to her and things have got nasty, he then bribed my son to go live with them and then sued me for csa. I now have to pay him for my son even tho I have my daughter living with me, he pays me some for her but he earns £690 a week compared to my £250 and csa dont care whether I cam buy food for me and my daughter they only care that I pay him £180 a month.

its ended up like this because it is run by a corrupt government it is terrible, I have a deo on my wages and they take £600 off me without warning I am missing payments on my car and not enough for food or fuel my life is falling apart I am better off dead, and despite of what these f"£$ing b"£$ads take off me I am not even aloud to see my daughter and everytime I mention this all they come back with is we dont deal with that. GRRRR!!!!! they need f"£$ing shot all of them and the system should be shut down. I have explained if they just reduce the amount I am more than happy to pay back what I owe just spread the payments out please, but as usual it falls on deaf ears. f"£$ing c"£$s all of them CORRUPT GOVERNMENT SYSTEM THATS ALL I HAVE TO SAY>

sounds to me like your in trouble either way even before the csa payments, you say after paying your rent you were left with £14 because the csa took £350? not only that, you earn 14k yet expect us to believe thats £800 a month? you need to grow up, your childs needs come before your social life and needs. if you cant afford your childs upkeep you shouldve kept it in your pants

Hey Goblet!!!! how dare you dictate to people for complaining about CSA. Clearly you have not got a clue what your talking about, and that goes for every other comment you've made. Don't take any notice people and don't rise to this man's comments he gets a kick when you bite!

After dealing with the CSA for over 14 years and costantly being harrased by them for payments even though even though I had a DOE, the payments have gone up as well as down , and even been NIL assesment, they still say I owe arrear to the tune of £14,445.38, this started off as little as £300.

I now find out that these arrears come from where they reduced the payments, they now say I owe the full ammount, they even included in this a rebate I was supposed to have got in 2003.
damn cheek you think well after contacting the agency on numerous occassions, and putting in numerous complaints , they say its what I got to pay and if it takes me 20 years to pay off then so be it, well i'm not going to give in over this im going to pursue this for as long as it takes.
i know im not the only one in this position and I would like to extend my sympathies to all the other victims of these bullies.

They are a government agency who think they can do as they please, but I think if enough people badger them, then something's go to change.

On the csa calculater it says that someone on more than 2000per week thats the max there aloud to take which is 400 a month. And if your on 100 per week they can only take 5 per week so you have to be rich or be on dole to win here.We get hammaerd the middle class so much so that we get to loose our homes.

Am I correct in assuming that my advice landed on stony ground Gary?
I assume chunky fry is a way of saying chip on my shoulder? Sure I have chip on my shoulder, a big one, what's wrong with that? It suits me better than wallowing in self pity.

I have been paying the CSA weekly directly from my wages on an average they worked out from payslips I sent them. Being weekly paid my wages differed frequently due to overtime when required. I have just been made redundant but had only worked for the company for one year so no redundancy was due. Just received my final payslip through post and three weeks payment was taken. After speaking to the CSA they couldn't explain why and blamed my previous employer, and I should contact them. Also on my payslips states my Gross yearly to date, Income tax yearly to date & NI yearly to date. From this I can work out the 15% I should have paid. When speaking to this CSA adviser I asked her the amount I had paid from the beginning of the tax year. It works out I have paid just over £2000 more than the 15% of take home pay to date. This adviser stated the CSA do not recognize the year to date system and I should have informed them of change to my earnings. My earnings were different every other week. Is there anything I can do to rectify this?, as you can imagine I'm getting fobbed off from the CSA. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Regards
