The main thing that annoys me about today's TV ads is the fact that they now appear to concentrate on making politically correct points instead of selling their products.

A business woman making a telephone call

This particularly applies to the way in which the sexes are now depicted in commercials.  Take a look at how a woman normally appears in such ads.  Almost invariably she will be a smart, intelligent, good-looking person, in full control of her life.

If she has a fault it will only be the mocking, pitying way in which she treats the men in her life.  This is not surprising as such men folk are constantly portrayed as wimps, oafs or cretins.

Now why on earth is it necessary to feature such stereotypes, if not to perpetuate an image of female superiority?  It does absolutely nothing to help sell the product: in fact, it produces the opposite effect.

Advertisements which mock and denigrate men are antagonising nearly half of their potential customers.  Presumably the companies involved consider consumers to be such a stupid bunch that they are not aware of the subliminal effect of their sales campaigns.  They are so wrong.  For some time now, members of my family and my friends have joined me in boycotting all goods produced by companies which libel the male sex in this way.  My impression is that this is a growing protest movement.

So, if the directors of companies are puzzled by falling sales, they need look no further than their television ads; which nowadays promote war between the sexes instead of selling their goods.

its the same old thing, when its sexism towards men its empowering to women and when its the other way round its sexism

same thing with strippers and porn.

Oracle, calm down Dear it's only a commercial. I don't believe for one minute that the commercials are made by women in high powered jobs or H.O.A as is referred. That makes me laugh as it could possibly be a female job if you take out the punctuation marks. These ads are supposedly cleverly designed to make women feel that they have power over men so that they buy the products. In reality men know otherwise. I don't see how anyone can find this offensive.

McLovin....great point. Just like the flash advert where the bloke cleans up while his wife is out and that hilarious one with Mr Muscle! I can see your point completely. It's not often that somebodys post has no holes in it whatsoever. Well done U!!!!

If you want to talk about stereotypes in television commercials, why is it that just about every commercial for household cleaning items features a WOMAN cleaning up after her family, and never a man?

Most women are complete hypocrites on this issue (and on many others). For years they have campaigned to censor and even criminalise any speech that could even be remotely construed as "offensive" to women. Yet they buy products promoted in advertisements that are overtly hateful towards men.

But why should we be surprised? After all, feminism has always been about gaining special, rather than equal treatment. The brave new world created by our feminist friends mandates treating men and women as exactly the same (even if this flies in the face of common sense), UNLESS it suits women to differentiate between the sexes.

For example, a typical feminist will see no irony in arguing on one hand that women need ever more protection from domestic violence, rape, sexual harassment and "hate speech" but on the other hand that women are just as good as men at construction and fighting crime, fires and wars. GIVE ME A BREAK!

I'm sorry, 'Atilla the mum', but your examples pale in comparison to those of 'ORACLE 2006'. Can you seriously not see this??

oracle is quite correct however the reason behind it is not to advance feminism (women are too stupid to conspire) its simply because most of the ads he is referring to are written by women.

The companies who do this are anything but wrong. They are making their sales skyrocket. The writer of this article said that these companies "are antagonising nearly half of their potential customers." Nothing could be farther from the truth. Women are the #1 consumers of pretty much everything. To make the simple assumption "Gee men and women, half and half. Men must buy half the stuff!" is ridiculous.
When women see other women being smart and in charge in "the man's world" they love it, it's empowering to them and makes them like the product. If men were the grocery shoppers, etcetera, the commercials would empower men. Such commercials are commercials like Budweiser Beer, where the men are always being able to hang out with their friends and all the girls like them. The commercial is this way because recorded data from Budweiser shows that men buy most of their product.
I can't beleive you would boycott an item because of an undeveloped thought.(By the way, I'm a dude!)

Perhaps - like most men - Tony doesn't listen to his wife! (Must be all those years of nagging.) ;)

I don't want to waste any more of my time on this matter - after all I do have an empire to run !
What I would ask you all to ponder is -

if women are now the masters, why does Cherie Blair allow Tony Blair to make so many blunders recently?
After all, if he goes down, she will lose all her power.......
