This gripe is about the poor road and traffic signal planning by the public transport executive and Manchester city council.
Every day I twice cross the junction of Princess Street and Portland Street in Manchester city centre. This is extremely dangerous junction due to the short phasing of the traffic lights and the total lack of enforcement by police and local authority traffic wardens. Nearly all buses that cross this junction do so whilst the lights are on red.
The queues through the junction are terrible, pedestrians have to walk through several cars and buses plonked in the middle of the junction. More often than not when crossing this junction you cannot even see if the pedestrian crossing light is on green or red.
Sometimes you have to walk right in the middle of the junction to avoid stationery cars and buses which have left no space for pedestrians. The authorities have 24 hour video access to this junction and yet nothing has been done!
Manchester city council need to get this junction between Princess Street and Portland Street sorted out ASAP before somebody is hurt.
