Cold sores and the stigma, how do you get rid of them?

There is a stigma attached to these things and their relationship to that other Herpes virus, but as well as that cold sores are a real nuisance.  They're painful and difficult to get rid of.","In this age of wonderful and amazing technological achievement in all areas of science including medicine, there's one affliction still plagues a fair chunk of the population at regular intervals and has successfully avoided all out attempts to wipe it out once and for all.  Cold Sores are a real nuisance and difficult to get rid of, even worse they can be quite painful and unsightly.  I can remember many occasions throughout my youth and even into my thirties having embarrassing bouts of cold sores.

There is a stigma attached to these things and their relationship to that other Herpes virus and don't let anyone tell you different.  All it takes is a peck on the lips or drinking from the wrong cup and you're stuck with Cold Sores for life.  Well, it might take a bit more contact than that, but you definitely catch the virus from someone else who is already infected.  It sounds gross doesn't it?

Classic cold sore, but how do you really make them go away? So what do we do with these things?  We spend money of them of course.  We hand over a small fortune at chemists once or twice a year (that's the usual frequency of a cold sore attack), buying creams and ointments that give a small amount of relief for a very short period of time.  They don't really get rid of the cold sore though.  Some of them claim to dry them up and stop them in their path, but they never really live up to the wild claims in the expensive adverts.  If I'm spending up to a fiver for a tube of cream less than 5 grams I'd like it to actually do something.

There are a whole host of so-called natural remedies for Cold Sores, from tea bags, salt and ice cubes to Witch Hazel and Ti Tree Oil.  I think I've tried them all now and I'm still no closer to finding something that works fast and effectively.  To be honest, keeping the Cold Sore clean, not touching it and letting it run its course has worked out best for me.  It also helps to be healthy and stress free as they really are brought on my poor health, fatigue and stress.  There's no question about that.
