Politics and Law
Gripes relating to UK politics, the law and crime. What is wrong with UK, people, society and the government etc. Are you fed up with the MP expenses row and are you fed up with political mudslinging? Do you think that prison is a cushy number these days and criminals have it easy?

Are we spending too much money on foreign aid?
There's hardly a day goes by at the moment where you don't hear about spending cuts in the news. In my opinion the mess at home needs to be sorted out before lending a hand to our neighbours!

The minimum price for alcohol policy
No more cheap beer at supermarkets because the government want to impose a minimum price for alcohol. I'm sorry, but I am pretty certain there are much more important issues that need to be tackled first.

Speed limits should be abolished (in an ideal world)
Many times when I'm behind the wheel or on my motorbike I imagine what it'd be like not to have speed limits on our roads at all. I imagine that if everyone was like me, there would be no need for them.

Political mudslinging and election leaflets
You're probably all sick fed up to the back teeth of hearing about politics in the news and getting the general election rammed down your throat. Well so am I which is precisely my reason for this rant.

Police 'too busy' to investigate a hit and run
Last year my father was involved in a hit and run incident and although he recovered, we were astonished at the police's reaction which was to explain they had more important things to do and his case was not investigated.

Mr Gordon Brown's bottomless pockets
I am becoming very concerned that our Prime Minister is becoming increasingly out of control where spending our money is involved. Each time he goes abroad, he makes speeches promising huge sums of money...

Britain, Government and The Recession
When will the British public wake up and realise the mess our country is in? Britain was heading for recession when Labour came to power in 1997, but our apathy and inaction is now bordering cowardice.

MPs expenses and second home allowance
Politicians, they're supposed to lead by example and represent those who voted them. Instead we have a bunch of power crazy, corrupt, money grabbing, lazy people who will do anything to screw the tax payer.
5-Aug-09 16:09

Did you make your vote count?
I wish to gripe about the individuals who threw eggs at the BNP leader, during a press conference following the their successful election to 2 European parliamentary seats. This is all down to people not voting.
10-Jun-09 16:05

Fed up with politicians arguing amongst themselves
Why do politicians insist on focusing their efforts on saying how bad the other party is instead of saying how good their party is? It's very negative and quite frankly probably puts potential voters off.
8-May-09 15:41

UK politics, a poor choice so why vote?
To vote or not to vote? Personally I choose not to vote as I have no faith in any party to govern this country morally or correctly and I view the political system as inherently flawed and corrupt.

Law and liability for dealership mechanics
A mechanic I know said to me he was cited and fined by our Ministry of Transportation for improperly certifying a vehicle, a foreign make. Shouldn't the common law of principal and agency kick in to make his employer liable?

Foreign cars dodging road tax
I don't know about you but I am growing sick of the number of foreign registered vehicles on UK roads. We should adopt the same system as Austria, one that makes it impossible to dodge road tax.

Why do we need this Westminster Parliament?
My gripe is therefore simple: why do we continue to support and pay for this redundant Westminster Parliament? Our laws are made by the EU and simply passed to Westminster in the form of orders!
23-Jun-08 12:54

Here's what I think of our government
Everyday I see this mans face in the media and I always think what are we doing with this joke? Seriously.. OK Tony Blair had his faults, but I was better off and never worried about my job, money, mortgage bills.
12-Jun-08 23:48

Prison is a cushy number these days
Prisons have become a soft option from what I understand. They are more like cushy hotels than a place a place of punishment or rehabilitation. Why do they have satellite television and games consoles for goodness sake?

Police officer harasses our son
My son owns a motorbike and we allow him to take it out to ride on private land nearby. However, he is being victimised by a police officer with a grudge against our family. It's so unfair and unjust.
21-Apr-08 09:14

Crime and punishment unacceptable
Like lots of people I am getting sick of the lack REAL punishment being handed out by our courts. Their main concern seems to be Prison costs money. Well we pay money to be protected from these people!

The police are not above the law
If there's one thing that really irritates me, it's the policemen and women in area patrol cars that think they are above the law. They make mistakes too and should be held accountable and not allowed to harass members of the public.
19-Feb-08 23:53

What happened to bobbies on the beat?
The public respected us because we had earned their respect and could be called on at any time to step in as a police officer. Everyone knew where the line was and what would happen if it was crossed it.

The age of criminal responsibility
I read in the news today that 3,000 crimes were committed in England and Wales last year by children. As they are below the age of criminal responsibility, the little thugs can't be held accountable and basically get off.

This smoking ban is just too much
Regarding the recently implemented smoking ban, I think we have now entered an era of dictatorship in the UK. I wonder, what is the next topic that the 'politically correct' brigade will latch on to.
24-Aug-07 20:01

Why I don't trust the police
I'm going to outline some reasons why I don't trust the police and why I believe they are ineffective. I have never been in trouble with the police until recently and I am in general a law abiding person.

Bike thieves are low life
Bike thieves are low life and should be hung in public in my opinion! September last year our Suzuki gsx 600f was stolen from behind a locked steel gate. We were very fortunate to find the person who stole it.
1-May-07 17:02

Sentence should fit the crime
The courts in this country are an absolute joke and it appears to me that whatever crime the low life commit the punishment never fits. Theres' always an excuse as to why these people commit crime, but what about the victim?
26-Mar-07 21:44

Government road pricing policy a bad idea
A road pricing petition was set up regarding the government's proposal to introduce road pricing which will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it.
15-Feb-07 14:59

People who complain about the police
I am always infuriated by people who complain that the police aren't doing anything about some petty crime they have suffered. As a policewoman and blogger, I read a great deal of online comment on this matter.

Misrepresentation in Parliament
This gripe is about my Member of Parliament (MP), laughingly known as the Minister for Fatties. The serious part is probable misrepresentation in Parliament.
16-Oct-06 16:29

Prison overcrowding, but I don't feel sorry for them
Is it just me or am I the only person not thinking about the prison inmates having to slop out their own mess every day? Who cares about prison overcrowding and the “oh so terrible” conditions that prisoners have to endure?
2-Oct-06 21:48

Politics and the state of the world today
Why do things have to go from bad to worse before they get better? And what is it with politics and politicians, do they deliberately let things get out of hand, simply to have a cause to espouse?
31-Aug-06 13:22

Child Maintenance: Some judges are incompetent
The judge at the county court decided to my horror and utter disbelief that I should reduce the amount of child maintenance I give for the children, and give it to my ex wife instead!
18-Aug-06 17:21

People who abuse children
Fourteen years ago, I brought a case against my brother for abusing my youngest son. He was ten when we found out and it had apparently been going on for a year. My family abandoned us and still support my brother.
31-Jul-06 17:22

Cash for honours scandal
We should stop our hypocritical attack on Tony Blair for his alleged 'Cash for Honours' activities. If we must criticise a politician for the 'Cash for Honours' debacle, a better target would perhaps be Gordon Brown.
19-Jul-06 10:49

Stolen motorcycle, one fed up biker
I dislike people who steal motorcycles. If I had my way they would dealt with quite severly. Stealing of any sort is bad, but when someone walks into your garden and takes your bike, it’s kind of personal!
17-Jul-06 14:29

Is the UK a democracy or dictatorship?
Is democracy a system we really need anymore? For a long time now, our parliamentary politicians have become steadily more useless, steadily more corrupt and greedy. The wishes of the public are continually ignored.
9-May-06 19:53

Police do nothing about my neighbour
Here's a gripe about police and crime! No wonder people flip out and kill their neighbours after months of abuse. What choice do they have when the police turn up and do absolutely nothing?
12-Apr-06 14:19

London bombs, police shoot to kill policy
It really bothers me the way people are blaming the police for the death of that innocent Brazilian electrician last week. After all the bombing scares that have been going on in London recently you'd think people would know better.
25-Jul-05 12:18

UK income tax too high and wages too low
Hmmm where can I begin... Oh I know, over 60% tax every month! Okay, I exaggerate a bit here but that’s exactly what it feels like. I just wish that tax bands were worked out properly instead of leeching from those who want to work hard.
20-Jun-05 16:58

Time we withdrew from The European Union
Is it time we withdrew from the Treaty of Rome (The European Union). When we were originally asked to vote in a referendum the question was whether we wished to remain, not to join as is wrongly thought.
