January Sales - tis the season to be folly!
Let's be honest, some people are plain bonkers, aren't they? Come the January sales, cash strapped shoppers tend to throw caution to the wind and buy the most hideous, pointless tat they wouldn't otherwise dream of buying.

eBay sellers at the mercy of buyer's protection
Whenever I sell something on eBay, the buyer only has to complain to eBay that they haven't received it, or that it wasn't as described to stop payment from being transferred from Paypal into my bank account.
28-Nov-11 18:39

M&S Christmas advert was disappointing this year
Think of the dissapointment when I see an advert featuring the X Factor finalists and seeing at the end that it's an M&S advert... but not any M&S advert, it's the much anticipated Christmas M&S advert.
14-Nov-11 17:37

Tesco razor blades changed - not for the better
Why do companies have to change their products when they work just fine as they are? For example, Tesco have changed their twin blade swivel head razors and now they don't seem to last as long as they used to.
4-Oct-11 18:48

Getting a PAC code at the end of a mobile contract
I've just called T-Mobile as my contract has come to an end and I intend to use a pay as you go sim with my new phone. Apparently I need to pay an extra month though before I can get the code and take my number with me.
28-Sep-11 16:53

Telephone Preference Service, what a waste of money!
My gripe is the waste of money by the Government on deluding the UK public into thinking that they can protect themselves against persistent unwanted sales calls on the telephone by registering with the TPS.
22-Sep-11 17:15

Aldi checkout process is fast, but it's not fun
I think the cashiers have been specially trained as they scan your shopping at an unbelievable rate. One of my pet dislikes is when a cashier starts scanning the shopping of the next customer before you've had a chance to pack yours.
7-Sep-11 19:58

Beer prices make going out hard to justify
I met up with some friends at the weekend and visited pubs a bit further afield than my local. I was absolutely shocked at the beer prices in these pubs and can't help but wonder how people can afford to go out every weekend.
18-Jul-11 19:03

Self service checkouts at supermarkets, I hate them!
If there is one thing that really aggravates me it would have to be self-service checkouts! Despite the friendly voice behind the screen they have never appealed to me and I think they are vexing, evil, bothersome masses of trash.
4-Jul-11 22:55

Men's hair dye more expensive than women's
Men's hair dye, what a con that is! If, like me you have been going grey since the age of nineteen then the occasional brush with a bottle of hair dye is a necessity. Why are women's hair colouring products so much cheaper though?
23-Jun-11 18:11

Warranty problem with an iPod Touch from Play.com
Whilst the the idea behind sites like Play.com is fantastic and easy for all, if something goes wrong it can leave consumers in a very sticky and unpleasant situation when it comes to warranty repairs on the product they purchased.
22-May-11 14:17

Shopping at Tesco left me frustrated
I had a bad experience at Tesco today. A lack of staff on duty to serve, the slowest checkout person ever and being sold a day old newspaper left me fuming! For the benefit of my health I think I'll shop at Asda from now on.
26-Mar-11 18:57

Men's size 34 jeans at Tesco hard to find
The only problem I have with buying my clothes from Tesco is actually finding something I like in my size, and it seems to particularly be the case when looking to buy a pair of size 34 jeans. They always run out of that size.
23-Mar-11 13:50

Poor customer service in the UK
It's the UK, so we don't return calls. It's not our fault but hang on, I'll just pass you on to someone else who doesn't give a damn either. Be prepared to be on hold for an hour only to be cut off if someone DOES answer the phone!
7-Mar-11 08:54

My car came back worse than when it went in
I recently took my car to a very small garage in Hemel Hempstead for a light bulb change as the job was too difficult to do myself. When I picked the car up it didn't seem to drive quite right and then things began to get worse.
20-Jan-11 19:26

Poor quality toys from China that break easily
We are demanding consumers these days, and rightly so in my opinion. I believe that the toy industry now is nothing more than a ruthless marketing strategy, where you pay high street money for car boot sale products.
19-Jan-11 15:37

eBay item lost in the post
It seems to me that the buyers have far more rights than sellers do these days. I've since realised just how easy it would be for someone to say they had not received the package. Is recorded delivery / registered mail the only way?
3-Sep-10 14:33

Delivery slow with some online retailers
I was very patient to begin with. I waited two weeks before even attempting to make contact and then sent them an email. That was about a week ago and I'm still waiting for a delivery.
10-Jun-10 16:24

Where can you find comfortable half size shoes?
Long ago, back in the 60s and 70s, you could go into a shoe shop and find something that was actually comfortable. A large number of them used to do shoes in half sizes. Nowadays, it's really hard to find shops that stock these.
9-Mar-10 17:52

Moving Sky to my new home was a nightmare
I was a happy Sky customer for 18 months when I decided to move to new area and wanted to have my Sky moved with me to the new address. I moved on the 16th October 2009 and called home moving team the same day.
8-Mar-10 18:49

No refund when paid full price for a reduced item
Have you ever left a shop and realised you have paid full price for an item that is on offer and then returned the next day to be refused a refund? This is the scenario that happened to me recently at our local Tesco.
22-Feb-10 19:23

Big companies care less about customers
Another BIG company has just proved to me, once again, that BIG makes for incompetence on a BIG scale, shoddiness on a BIG scale, money-wasting on a BIG scale and time-wasting on an even BIGGER scale!
23-Dec-09 11:28

Reduced item, but still charged full price
We've all done it... scouted round the supermarket for bargains, special offers, reduced stickers in order to save a bit of money. When you arrive home you realise that you have actually been charged the normal price.
10-Dec-09 16:19

Bogof and multi-buy offers bad for environment
Buy 2 get 1 free... or alternatively buy 1 and get ripped off. That's what it sounds like to me!  Come on, why can't we just have a third off, so if you want to buy 1, 2 or 3 you get the same deal?
19-Nov-09 19:59

Plastic carrier bags, recycling and environment
I am fed up to the back teeth with the 'nanny' politics surrounding supermarket plastic carrier bags. Please can the anti-bag 'police' just pipe down a bit and let some balance and proportion come back into the debate?
7-Nov-09 11:14

Returning used goods for a refund
I work as a sales assistant for a small family shop and am reminded on an almost daily basis how petty and untruthful the general public can be when they try to return goods that have obviously been used.
29-Aug-09 14:04

Car damage caused by abandoned shopping trolley
My car was damaged this weekend when an abandoned shopping trolley collided with it at the supermarket. I ask you, is this a lost cause or should I pursue for some form of compensation?
24-Aug-09 16:36

Amazon negative feedback removed
I have a gripe with Amazon. They pride themselves on offering good customer service but their feedback system seems useless, particularly when they decide to just remove negative feedback!
14-Aug-09 16:17

Sky Talk phone charges even after cancellation
Wow that seems like a good deal! Sky Talk,TV and Broadband for an ideal price! That's what I said to myself back in Oct 2007 when I signed up to Sky, having moved to a new address.
31-Jul-09 16:37

Charity bag packing at the supermarket
Shopping in supermarkets is becoming a little bit annoying these days as many of the supermarkets are allowing all sorts of groups and charities to have people at each checkout offering to pack your bag.
21-Jul-09 16:46

Sky existing customers treated poorly
Sky seriously need a wake up call when it comes to their attitude to existing customers. Sky has taken my money this month for a service it is refusing to provide me with until I either pay up again or go on direct debit.
20-Jul-09 14:47

Charity shops are getting greedy
To me, some of the large UK charities are getting just a little bit greedy. Why buy secondhand clothes from a charty shop when you can buy new from a supermarket for a similar price?
29-Jun-09 14:45

Put the receipt down on the counter please
Why don't cashiers just place the receipt down on the counter so that I can pick it up as soon as I've finished packing my shopping? Better still, just pop it into one of the bags I'm loading.
23-Jun-09 20:43

Proof of purchase and receipts
My new gripe is about retailer logic for requesting proof of purchase. Have you ever tried to exchange faulty goods in a store after discovering you have lost your proof of purchase, namely the receipt?
8-Jun-09 15:07

Fuss over a shopping trolley in a basket queue
Why are people so thick these days? I thought the whole point of 'basket only' queues was to speed things up for those shoppers with just a few items. Some idiots assume this means it actually HAS to be a basket!
29-May-09 15:33

Getting a BT landline reconnected
We moved last year to a house that had previously been used as an office. I rang BT and asked for the landline to be reconnected and was told that none existed at my address. They then charged £150 to get a new line installed.
27-May-09 13:56

Sky HD+ was a waste of money - my opinion!
Our Sky HD+ has never worked properly and I haven't been able to record anything in the 5 months I have owned the system! The few programmes shown in HD are good but not worth an extra £120 a year!
26-May-09 21:43

Hobgoblin pub in Bicester getting too expensive
What a sheer delight to find that my local pub, The Hobgoblin in Bicester has decided to ease our suffering of this recession by massively increasing their prices. It's now the most expensive pub in town.
13-May-09 13:34

Free P&P on eBay won't be good for sellers
The latest trick from eBay is that from 15th June sellers will be required to offer free P&P as their first domestic postage option. This applies to certain categories, for example video games, phones and computing.
4-May-09 19:04

Sky Freesat wasn't exactly free
Fed up with poor reception on my Freeview box, I looked into other means of receiving digital television, and discovered SKY offered a package called Freesat. For a one-off payment, of around £150-180 at the time.
26-Mar-09 15:13

Double glazing company won't stop calling us
We had some double glazing fitted by Amber Windows last year, but their product isn't the issue. It's the number of nuisance phone calls we've received from them since trying to entice us to buy more double glazing.
19-Mar-09 16:34

BT helpline left me on hold again
When I signed up to Sky last year I discovered I'd have to have a BT line. Talk about the most useless helpline ever. I spent more time on hold than actually talking to people to arrange for my phone line to be sorted out!
6-Mar-09 17:14

Tesco self service checkout machines
I wish to gripe about the Self Service checkout tills that have been springing up everywhere including my local branch of Tesco. It is so obvious that these things have been put there to save the company employing checkout staff.
4-Mar-09 15:58

Debenhams gift card refused on their website
I spent a good few hours looking to buy goods from debenhams.com on 8th January 2009. I only had a gift voucher for £15 to spend, but it would seem that this isn't enough to buy any reasonable level of customer care at Debenhams.
3-Mar-09 13:07

BT broadband delay very frustrating
I wish to gripe about BT. So many things to gripe about, but I'll limit myself to just one. I'd like to tell you about the frustrating delays and useless customer service experienced trying to sort out BT broadband for my mother.
25-Feb-09 15:24

WHSmith customer service and returns
I bought a PS2 game from WHSmith online for a child's Christmas present. My gripe is that I've had to return the item and have yet to be reinbursed for the cost of posting the damaged goods back to WHSmith.
16-Feb-09 10:32

Lego not what it used to be thanks to model kits
It's about time parents stood up to their kids and stopped buying them Lego models. Why? It's really simple. Lego is supposed to be made, dismantled, made again into something different, not sat on a shelf collecting dust.
31-Jan-09 20:22

Fed up with double glazing companies phoning me
We all need windows in our homes, but when double glazing companies continually hound you for more business it really gets quite annoying. It's bad enough having to endure a couple of hours with the salesman in the first place!
11-Nov-08 17:08

Pound coin stolen by car park machine
If you were diddled out of a pound every time you paid for something it would soon mount up, so loosing a pound to some faceless company with faulty machines and indifferent employees really left me feeling quite bitter.
16-Oct-08 15:35

Vouchers and coupons for sale on eBay
I'm completely outraged at people on eBay profiting from the naivety of others. It's absolutely disgusting and if I worked for eBay, I'd be closing all of these accounts down. These vouchers and coupons are free to download!
1-Oct-08 15:21

Can I just cancel my mobile phone contract?
Cancelling a service when you no longer need it should be painless and straightforward. So why on earth is it so difficult to cancel a mobile phone contract and why do they make us jump through all these hoops?
29-Sep-08 21:25

BT line fault and slow broadband
Cancelled contracts, mis-sold Broadband contracts, overcharged calls, noisy lines, slow broadband, faulty BT equipment, continually transferred to the wrong department when you call. Does any of this sound familiar?
18-Sep-08 22:06

BT Broadband problems and no help
Six months and two bills later, I was still being billed for my telephone calls on top of my supposedly all-in fee. Repeated calls to BT trying to find out what the problem was got me next to nowhere...
27-Jul-08 18:54

Commercial giants just don't care
Why is it corporate faceless giants can just ignore the consumer with such apathy and ease? Have we created monsters that 'budget' for lost consumers and train staff to become impersonal and obstructive?
25-Jun-08 17:55

Orange mobile top up alerts
Orange pay as you go, well it's great until you're right the middle of a phone call and you get a text message to let you know that you have sixty seconds of credit remaining. The text message somehow ends the call.
20-Jun-08 16:19

Why I don't like eBay and PayPal
What's that I hear? If you don't like eBay then don't use it? Well I wish it were so simple but sadly there isn't really any other viable auction site and for some reason or other the punters flock to eBay.
22-May-08 13:44

Wheelchair users and poor facilities
I've been a wheelchair user for the last year or so and I'm frankly horrified at the lack of access to basic things that I used to enjoy when I could walk. I've tried bringing this to the attention of the shops, pubs and supermarkets etc.
20-May-08 11:57

An hour wasted on the phone to Sky
A letter written to Sky recently to request the cancellation of my subscription. This follows a particularly unnecessary and farcical episode on their notoriously inaccessible telephone system. Let me expand...
6-May-08 23:58

TalkTalk, yet another complaint
TalkTalk seem to be a company that employ salesmen who pressurise elderly, vulnerable people into signing up for services they neither understand nor are able to use. My mum for example ended up on a tariff she never agreed to!
2-May-08 18:55

Car stuck in the garage for four months
It's now nearly 4 months down the line, the engine has almost been re-assembled - I've been guaranteed it will be ready on 4 occasions in the last week, needless to say those promises have not been fulfilled.
15-Apr-08 15:08

Why don't MFI have a voucher scheme?
A few days ago I enquired at MFI if they did a voucher scheme as I am getting married soon and would like vouchers instead of presents, plus the fact the store is conveniently situated just down the road!
27-Feb-08 21:35

Random appointments with BT engineers
I just moved into a new house and decided to get a BT landline installed, as there was no line into the house. The whole process has been frustrating though due to engineers not sticking to pre-arranged appointments.
14-Jan-08 19:17

Fed up with rogue tradesmen
I'm sick to death of being ripped off rogue tradesmen.  For example, I had a new kitchen fitted recently and it took them three months to finish the job. They even wanted paying in full before starting the job!
19-Dec-07 22:08

Tesco reduced to clear, but no bargains
Tesco used to significantly reduce the prices of items that were close to their sell-by date, but these days it's hardly worth the bother looking in the reduced section and hunting for those yellow stickers.
29-Nov-07 21:33

Children's toys are gimmicky trash
Children’s toys are very gimmicky these days. Brightly coloured bits of plastic that don't really do anything and have no real value other than to serve as a brief diversion before the child moves on to the next worthless piece of junk.
27-Nov-07 12:37

Garage bill too much with excessive labour charges
Outragious labour charge and over-priced parts. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the final bill. I've heard many tales of rip-off garages but I didn't think that I would be caught by one myself!
26-Nov-07 17:56

Dishwasher tablets that don't work
You just load it up and set it off. Around forty minutes later a load of clean sparkling crockery and cutlery appears as if by magic! At least that's what is supposed to happen.
12-Nov-07 22:26

Orange mobile customer service
For the last 16 months I have been a customer of Orange Mobile. When will the large companies such as Orange learn that customers do not want to ring and complain but instead want decent service from the off?
8-Nov-07 11:05

No Mac make-up at Debenhams
Why hasn't the make-up section in Debenhams Northampton got a Mac counter? Any woman that really knows her make-up is quite likely to favour Mac above all else. I know I do.
17-Oct-07 20:50

Cheap flat pack furniture
Cheap self assembly flat pack furniture and when I say cheap, I mean poor quality materials and design, not how much the pack actually cost you to buy in the shop! These things are actually quite loathsome in my opinion.
9-Oct-07 13:24

Renault Clio and dealership problems
I stretched my personal finances to buy a Renault Clio 182 Sport from a main dealership in Worcester. It was my belief that a new car with a warranty would give me hassle-free motoring for at least three years.
3-Oct-07 19:27

eBay fees are too high
Is it just me, or are eBay getting just a little bit greedy when it comes to the fees levied at sellers these days? Also, I think that the seller fee system is over complicated and a bit devious, not to mention those PayPal fees!
4-Sep-07 13:05

Ordering online with Debenhams
I live in Spain and was delighted to discover that I could buy goods from Debenhams online and have them posted to a friends address in the UK. The first time I ordered online it worked perfectly...
3-Sep-07 16:37

Delivery driver job, and what it's really like
We are DELIVERY DRIVERS, which means we drive around and deliver things! By the way, we don't drive Reliant Robin's with just your parcel on board and Ford Transit vans can't always fit through your tiny gateways.
21-Aug-07 12:06

Clarks shoes fell apart, what happened to quality?
I have always bought Clarks shoes and 58 years after national service, I still stick to the 'wear them - polish them' philosophy. Recently however, the sole and heel has started coming away from a virtually unworn pair.
17-Aug-07 12:16

Cheap car insurance for female drivers - why?
How many male drivers have had enough of inequality of car insurance companies favouring female drivers, often tempting them with cheaper car insurance or female oriented perks.
15-Aug-07 15:50

Shopping online drives me crazy
Shopping online drives me absolutely crazy! It seems the larger and more expensive the item, the better the customer service, yet with smaller items there just doesn't seem to be the same level of customer care.
2-Aug-07 13:44

NEXT clothes quality not what it once was
NEXT clothes aren't what they used to be. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed a deterioration in the quality of clothing on sale in some of the main high street stores? I used to shop regularly at NEXT, but I don't go there these days.
31-Jul-07 21:48

Listing designer items on eBay

31-May-07 19:54

Parent and child parking spaces - who are they for?
My major gripe is when people without children park in the 'parent and child' parking spaces at the supermarket. How selfish is hat? The elderly and the disabled think its absolutely their right to park in these spaces.
30-May-07 19:42

Garage ignored my wishes when fitting parts
I bought a high performance last year and had to take it to a garage when the gearbox refused to go into reverse. I'm not happy with the garage however because they ignored my wishes and fitted more expensive parts.
6-May-07 16:01

Dishonest garage sold car destined for scrap
Our Fiat car broke down recently and we took it to a small garage in Wolesley Road, Plymouth. We were told it was uneconomical to repair the car and they offered to scrap it for us, but then sold it later without telling us.
3-Mar-07 21:13

Glasses at high street opticians are too expensive
I'm fed up with the attempts of some high street opticians to overcharge me. They want to charge me £99 for the same pair of glasses that I can buy online for £25. Is the extra profit used to pay for the plush shops and advertising?
6-Feb-07 19:59

Not enough local food shopping
I am amazed that with so many gripes about supermarkets and their rising prices, or over use of packaging, under stocked shelves etc., that people still continue to use them. Why not do your food shopping locally?
22-Jan-07 21:36

Service with a smile at Tesco
Do you get service with a smile at Tesco? Maybe some people do, but not always I think. I visited a branch of Tesco at Coppets Lane in North London with my little girl who is only four years old.
12-Jan-07 16:22

Tesco shopping at Christmas
It’s not a mistake I will make in a hurry again. Doing the old Tesco shopping so close to Christmas Eve was a really bad idea. I ended up in a foul mood with bruised legs, a headache and an empty basket!
10-Jan-07 18:35

Recorded delivery goods damaged
I don’t think much of Royal Mail’s recorded delivery service. I came home about 4pm to find a package left outside my front door, on top of some rubbish waiting to be dumped at the local tip. The item was damaged of course.
8-Jan-07 11:17

Mothercare online problems
I ordered one pram and one sterilizing unit plus a few other bits from Mothercare online. I had spent over 500 euros by the time I got to the checkout. However things didn't exactly go smoothly after that.
3-Jan-07 19:48

Christmas is just a spend fest
I’m not an overly religious person, but it seems like the whole thing has been stolen, repackaged and sold back to us as a festival of eating, dinking and spending too much. Aren’t we forgetting the original Christmas message?
19-Dec-06 20:12

Marks and Spencer order cancelled
I ordered a table, sideboard and a side table from the Surat range from Marks and Spencer online on August 21st. They have since cancelled my order and left me high and dry with no hope of finding an alternative before Christmas.

6-Dec-06 10:49

Nice cars go to the wrong people
Have you noticed how all the nice cars end up with the drivers who are least able to fully appreciate them? For example old people who buy a brand new expensive car and then drive it around at 15 to 20 mph.
4-Dec-06 20:38

People are just like stupid sheep
People are just sheep and they’re pretty stupid sheep as it happens. You do what you are told and you do it when you are told, end of story. You can’t think for yourselves and you don’t even realise that you’ve got a choice.
29-Nov-06 18:35

Thumbnail images you can't enlarge
It really irritates me when using the internet, for shopping or whatever, to be given an option to 'click here to enlarge' and then find out that there isn't really a larger image. A window opens with the same picture as before.
23-Nov-06 23:25

Slow people at the supermarket checkout
Not content with packing and repacking bags at the pace of an arthritic snail, these slow people will wait until they have completed the task to their inevitably high standards, before searching for a purse.
14-Nov-06 17:26

Motorbike knocked over by car - hit and run
Around three weeks ago, a work colleague’s motorbike got knocked over our works private car park. The incident was never reported by car driver who knocked the motorbike over.
31-Oct-06 01:18

5-Sep-06 20:53

Problems with Sky HD installation

29-Aug-06 13:42

Vehicle repairs at rip off garage
My gripe is with the big garages and in particular vehicle repairs and the quotes you are given where they don’t fix the problem, but charge you a ridiculous amount anyway.
21-Aug-06 22:35

Empty shelves at Tesco with items out of stock
It's so annoying when you go to the local supermarket to do you're weekly shopping and find that the products you are after are out of stock. It is even more inconvenient when the same items are still out of stock a week later.
12-Aug-06 13:09

Some men hate shaving - women are so lucky!
Every morning I take a shower and like most guys we tend to shave in the shower. I sometimes end up with a few cuts though because the blade has become blunt. Why are razor blades so expensive? It’s a rip off!
18-Jul-06 12:53

Shoe shopping for children
I went shopping for children’s shoes today and I had what can only be described as a really bad experience in a Clarks shoe shop. Finding the correct width and size was the main problem.
11-Jul-06 14:31

I ordered some mobile phone accessories online recently, a couple of phone pouches and a Bluetooth phone headset. Ten days later and still no headset and I'm finding it extremely difficult to get hold of someone in customer services.
19-May-06 15:58

Too much plastic packaging and not much product
How many other people, like me get really fed-up with opening a box or tin, only to find it is only just over half full? Also, what is with the plastic packaging on products these days?
16-Feb-06 16:54

18-Jan-06 16:57

Defective trumpet bought on eBay from a power seller

4-Jan-06 15:01

Why do cheap batteries not last very long?
Isn’t it annoying when you buy some cheap batteries to use in your electric toothbrush or your optical mouse; you use it for a few days then suddenly, it just stops. Was it a false economy?
31-Oct-05 18:25
