Where did the British fishermen go?

When will all this madness end?
Our once proud fishing fleet has been in steady decline over the years. So does anyone else want to know what the heck is going on? Where are our fishermen and why has the government abandoned them?
Now I understand that the, once proud, Scottish fishing fleet has been decimated over recent years; apparently to conserve fish stocks. I find it amazing that it is considered acceptable for Spanish boats to plunder what is left of our fish stocks.
