Parents should be able to discipline their kids, corporal punishment

We need to bring back corporal punishment

Parents smacking children

hat this country needs is a government who isn't afraid of everything, and to allow schools to be run by teachers again, instead of the pupils.

I'm all in favour of bringing back corporal punishment in schools. A radical idea perhaps, but if regulated and monitored I think it would go a long way to solving the problem with kids today.

18-8-2010 I'm still in school and I think that getting rid of corporal punishment was the worst mistake ever made. There are some really horrible people at my school, some that really deserve a good smack. Now a days you can't even shout at a child! I'm not even kidding. My maths teacher was given a warning because he yelled at us about disrespect, apparently 'if we're given too many rules we're more likely to act out' Bull Sh*t! Some people need the fear of God put into them! I also think getting rid of conscription was bad. When all the troops are out of Afghanistan then they should have all the people who aren't going to sixth form go into the army for two years. Sort out the yob problem. If we had both! *Sighs dreamily* but that's hardly likely.Emma! XD
14-8-2010 They always say only do to your kids what you would like done to you. If you do use corporal punishment be aware that it can cause permanent harm to the child/parent relationship. Just look at the late Michael Jackson and his dad. Michael never really came to terms with what happened in his youth. The UN and Save The Children define any use of punishment with a cane etc as torture. There is ALWAYS another means of discipline. Parents just too lazy and want to be bullies/tyrants. What about the long term? Many children (understandably) would not mind giving their parents a good beating now and then. Always two sides you know. Again referring to Michael Jackson - when he saw his father cheating on his mother (and his other brothers saw father as well) they must have had times when they felt like giving HIM a beating!Annabel Pritchard
14-7-2010 Simple solution to the yob problem.Lets follow the Chinese example.Take them all out with a bullet in the back of the head.Problem solved instantly.Jeanette
13-7-2010 if we do not love our children then we dont disapline them. it is not fair that we bring our children up properly then the school allows everything against what we have done eg swareing and bullingdesperate
22-6-2010 I survived being a youngster when smacking was allowed, and the threat of "I dont know what your Dad will say"usually meant a slipper.Having being brought home by no less than a Policeman for knobbing apples,my mother calmly informed the officer that HE should have clipped me around the ear for wasting his time, while calmly doing so herself. My old chap was not a tyrant or a bully, but I certainly did dread his arrival home and yes I did get another clip around the ear.Never stole Apples again, never been in trouble with the Police since,so maybe, just maybe it worked.arrawn
26-5-2010 Sorry, brain struck off for a moment. Besides, I didn't fully read the article. Will ensure my brain is switched on next time. Sorry :(Chris.
26-5-2010 I don't think that, killing people that kill people to show that killing people is wrong, would work. I think smacking children should be allowed and not frowned upon. Obviously, taking a baseball bat to your sons head would be over the top. One thing that always worked on me was the "wait till your dad gets home". Followed by a slipper round the back of my legs. Government has taken away a parents right to discipline their children and instead said that children that don't behave will be dealt with by punishing the parents.... because they can't control their own children... because the government says we cant. So we will get punished anyway. My my my, that was a laugh out loud moment when I heard it.Chris.
27-4-2010 I'm sure Yank thinks that everyone else thinks that spanking doesn't work. Well he is wrong. Years ago people were brought up with good manners, respect for elders, and were behaved in class and at home, and never answered back. Crime was almost unthinkable, were as now everything is out of control. In the 60's, the worst thing you would see is a murder maybe once in a month, then it would be all over the newspaper. If you compare those days to now, the people who lived in those times must be disgusted. Since the cane was banned, classrooms have gotten out of control (stabbings of teachers?), children shout and swear at teachers, they answer back, they interrupt during an adult conversations (remember the saying 'children should be seen and not heard?' probably not). They grow up into criminals, layabouts, binge drinkers, child killers, perverts, and have under age sex. This never went on until hanging and the cane was banned. Coincidence maybe? Of course it's a flaming coincidence. It teaches the child not to misbehave. It teaches right from wrong. Why make it sound as if us parents are being cruel???? How dare you suggest such a thing! I was smacked. Never done me any harm. I knew I was being smacked because I misbehaved. people try to over complicate matters by making decent loving parents sound like barbarians just for doing what is right. These people disgust me, and they have no right to an opinion. They are too soft on children, and are probably lacking in behavior themselves!!! DISGUSTING.Russell
15-4-2010 I can assure you this won't work. Spanking never worked on me, I just repeated the same misbehavior. Writing "I must not use profanity" or "I must not throw things at other students" 100 times didn't work on me either. Crime was rampant in the Victorian era and beating was a common punishment in family, school, military, etc. The problem today is that kids are overindulged with material things. You're the parent, you're paying for the TV, toys, video games, and designer clothing. You can take it all away.Yank
12-4-2010 Public hanging would be great entertainment, just like the Victorian period when large crowds would gather. I'm all for that, champion family day out.Noz
10-4-2010 Bring back the cane in schools.Bring back the birch.Bring back capital punishment for juvenile delinquents.Forget Asbos & political correctness gone mad.Spare the rod & spoil the child.Give these brats what they deserve.Hang em all.Cheryl
07-3-2010 Children should be seen & not heard.Lock them in the cellar for 24 hours without food or water like they did in the good old days. That will teach them.Trashem
