Pedestrians squeezed by selfish car parking

Size does matter if you're a pedestrian

Pavement parking problems

Sometimes it's necessary to resort to limbo dancing to get under the wing mirrors and what do you do if the passenger decides to open their door onto the pavement without looking?

So size isn't everything? Well it certainly seems to be when it comes to pedestrians.  As a pedestrian, I've realised recently that I just don't count. So many times I've been forced off the pavement and on to the road.

05-11-2009 Overweight people probably feel victimised but If I was overweight I would'nt be able to look in the mirror thrn turn the TV on see many people going hungary. It's a tricky one, try working in an office all day then get back look after the kids, maintain the house and car, try and have some recreation which people deserve and find time to exercise. I'm sure the scientists will come up with something when they are not wasting time researching gravy recipes.c9rlos
03-11-2009 You have been warned : You're talking utter rubbish of course but I love the word 'prounce'. That's a new one for me. Thanks!Paula pedestrian
03-11-2009 The bigger you are the more greenhouse gases are going to emanate from your rear end as you prounce up and down the pavements. Pedestrianisation is but a ticket to global warming. You have been warned
03-11-2009 Pavement parking is common with too many people now regarding pavements, and verges, as an extension of the road. The police don't see it as it as a job for them and ignore it. Indeed, the police can be the worst offenders! I saw one police van parked half on the pavement and half on a zebra crossing the other day. Traffic wardens will only focus on 'official' parking zones; they won't touch anything outside their job description. Which means there's little or no enforcement and pavement parkers can do what they like. So the situation can only get worse. It gets me down too.....but there's nothing you can do.dobbo996
03-11-2009 Paula, please don't buy a gas-guzzler. Keep to your principles; it makes you special. I totally agree with you. (See my gripe on people who don't indicate). I feel sorry for people in wheelchairs and mums with pushchairs trying to manoeuvre round cars parked on the pavement. What also iritates me is when the a car pulls up and the passenger door is flung open, oblivious of anyone who happens to be walking in their path. As for selfish, ignorant people blocking my path, my tactic is to stand still and wait. Then they have to go around me and I don't have to step into the gutter to let them pass.Toughcookie
03-11-2009 Regarding the pavement parking. I entirely agree. What I want to know is why these peopel are not prosecuted for driving on the pavement ?? Its an offence and to get you car onto or halfway onto the pavement you would have to have driven it there. Or do they all get out and push their cars onto the pavement. Mind as I have seen police cars parked in a similar way, it shows that even they have no regard for pedestrians. The answer is Accidently damage the cars with a zip or buckle on your bag. Sorry owner I couldnt squeeze past. I wonder whose side the law would be on then ??????John 925
03-11-2009 Experiences with the few ? What every one I walk past in the street? I can only make judgements on my own experiences perhaps I should of wrote " I find" overweight people...... Do alot of americans use this site? I'm sick of overweight people smoker's are treated worse than scum but there are no laws stopping people filling their faces then my tax "dollars" have to pick up the bill. Anyway the gripe is about rudeness on the streets it's just that people are become less mannered as parenting deteriorates in the UK.c9rlos
03-11-2009 Overweight people are very inconsiderate? Wow, why don't you dazzle us some with your ignorance by making more judgements on an entire group of people based on your experiences with the few? I'm from the states so there's something I don't get about this, why is it legal to park on the sidewalk? I hope that's not a stupid question to ask, but here.. well that area is for pedestrians and anyone parking on it would get their car towed.Sara
02-11-2009 Yes I agree you have look at people like a wild eyed maniac looking for a victim just to get them to move slightly so you don't have to walk in the road. Overweight people are very inconsiderate aswell as dirty dog walker's. I have noticed young children allowed to toddle 20m away from their parents while they gossip on the street too. Don't get a car just because of this please!C9rlos
