Dealing with nuisance calls
Thinking about the sheer number of cold calls we receive I'm actually quite perplexed. We aren't in the phone book and I've signed up to the telephone preference service (TPS) so I'm quite puzzled.

When my working day is done the last thing I want is to be pestered by cold callers trying to wheedle some business out of me. I really feel that it is an invasion of my privacy and they're taking up my valuable personal time.

| 29-12-2008 | I discovered the answer to these callers. When they ask if they can speak to me, I tell them politely, 'I'm sorry, she's not home at the moment, can I take a message?. They will usually say they will call back later and never do. | Lynne |
| 22-12-2008 | I hate cold callers. If I want to buy a product or a service I use the Yellow Pages or go on the recommendation of my family or close friends. It should be made illegal to sell on someone's telephone number. My number is ex-directory and that's the way I intend it to stay. | sharmie |
| 24-10-2008 | If you're listed on TPS, get the name of the company that is calling you and repoert them to the TPS. They will then be fined. Very simple. | Older and Wiser |
| 22-10-2008 | Just say no and put the phone down - easy. My ten year old can do it!
They won't ring back - if they do just repeat and never wait for the response. | Mike |
| 17-10-2008 | Companies only make these calls because the say we want them to!! This activity will cost the companies something. They have been doing this for years. We moved in about 12 years ago and it soon started. In the end we must have been getting upwards of 20 cold calls per week. Then TPS came along, tha...more | Bulldog |
| 28-9-2008 | You should ask them where they got your details from as they do have have to tell you this, you can also ask them to remove your information from their data and o not pass it on anymore. This should stop the call then. We have TPS and we have no problems at all. | mother with attitude |
| 14-9-2008 | Oh dear.... yes I've got an understanding with all my friends that they do 3 rings and then ring me again after a moment. It's like my secret knock so I know they aren't unwanted calls. I do regard it as an invasion of privacy, but more broadly (and I realise this is an extreme line) I t...more | SKDM |
| 26-8-2008 | We seem to get a few cold callers on the phone who slip through the net. When I mention to them that I'm on the TPS they instantly hang up - result! My wife just hangs up when she hears the pause after she's said 'hello'.
We have just moved house and still get calls for the previo...more | Youthful Griper |
| 26-8-2008 | Invite them around, for a survey and when they have finished, just say no thanks and show them the door, it works for me, or answer the phone and put it on the side next to it, | have fun with the callers |
| 25-8-2008 | We are on it Id, and still get pestered constantly. If we make the mistake of trying to explain that we are on the list, we have then made the fatal mistake of engaging in conversation, and you waste more precious time.
If you are one of the cold callers I have been rude to, I apologise, I usual...more | Nikki |
| 24-8-2008 | I am a cold caller - and before you instantly hate me, let me say I hate my job! Most people in the office are similar to myself, young people who are doing the job until something better comes up. Althouh we are annoying, at least we are paying our taxes and are not claiming benefits!

| 12-8-2008 | Thankfully, in Canada we will soon be able to take our numbers off cold callers lists Yay! | Freya |
