The Weekly Gripe

Playing in a band, but stalked by groupies, how to cope?

Groupies make playing in a band hell

They are quite persistent

The girls drew lots to decide who would go with me as I was 'new'. I told them that I wasn't interested as I have a girlfriend and we intend to get married next year. Unfortunately, it didn't end there...

Has anyone been in this situation and if so can you give me some guidance? At first this was a dream come true and I love playing in this band, but these groupies are persistent and they are making life difficult for me.

08-5-2008ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Why is it so difficult to write a comment on the really badly designed website. . You need to sot your life out, if you really cared for this girl then you wouldn't have cheated in the first place, and as for using being human as an excuse to do it AGAIN, well frankly thats jus...moreA human
02-5-2008This gripe is never real, why would a guitarist in a nationally well know band put a post on the internet like this. I don't know about anyone else, but this guy is a fantasist living in dreamland.Charlotte
02-5-2008James, This is not a new phenominam, That is part of being in a band. ''Money for nothing and chicks for free''!. However, you do have the right to tell the little scrubbers to piss off. You can have a girlfriend and be in a band. The fans and groupies will never go away as long as t...moreGaz
01-5-2008That could be truer than you think mate. I knew two brothers once. Neither were very bright and both had mundane jobs. The good looking one struggled to get a date while his older uglier brother had women swarming all over him. Something to to with making women laugh and being sympathetic to them so...moreJoe
01-5-2008I'm an accountant and I can tell you, we've got it far far worse. The amount of women I have gathered around my desk at any one time, watching me finalise a balance sheet.... well, it's riduculous, quite frankly.MissedaPoint
01-5-2008James, I was in a similar situation some years ago. I was a young actor with a steady girlfriend and surrounded not just by actresses but by all the other workers in the film and television industry who are predominantly female. Social events were a nightmare with the male female ration being about ...moreSean

29-4-2008You still suggest you want a marital realtionship, yet you are consumed by guilt and are struggling to deal with this issue. You swear never to be unfaithful again, yet say you are human, (and therefore weak?) You risk losing the love of your life. If you love this person that much this situation...moreSid
29-4-2008Keep schtum about that previous indiscretion and be good is the only advice I could suggest. It was a momentary lapse in judgement, people have been guilty of worse crimes. Actually, musicians are not unique in facing temptation. People face it all the time and the ones doing the tempting are e...moreBob
29-4-2008My mate used to play in a band and he really enjoyed it. All the stigma that goes with being up there on stage. They weren't heavily famous but they kicked out a few good tunes along the way. Sadly, he is no longer with us. Caught slimmer's disease (AIDS) and died of a common cold. ...moreWragger
29-4-2008"And I was hoping that someone may have been in the same situation and somehow resolved it." Oh right, sorry then can't help. :pPaul
