Fined by your local council over your wheelie bin?

Fortnightly rubbish collection and fines

Local council and ridiculous fines

What on earth are they playing at? Apparently Copeland Council sent an employee out there to take a photograph of the offending bin, then a couple of days later officers with stab vests turned up.

Quite frankly local councils take the biscuit but apparently not the rubbish these days. I've just read an article in the news about a guy who now has a criminal record - for overfilling his wheelie bin!

09-5-2008A broken car-window, as a result of vandalism, presumably with the intention of stealing either the car or its contents, is no longer considered a crime. Overfilling a dustbin with rubbish, in the vain hope that it will be collected at some point within a fortnight, is now considered a crime. Tax...moreHope
04-5-2008Is this a Bin ploicy or is it an envirommental policy? People like to give the impression that they are very pro the environment. We can alll understand why people would like to live in a clean, fresh uncomplicated environment, it's bound to be easier than living in the fug-like atmosphere of...moreTom
02-5-2008He'll not be in for much longer. Labour have exhausted their expiry date with the people of this country. Just like Hitler's Generals had had enough of him, his troops fighting constantly for years, returning their medals enveloped back to Hitler from the front. Time out for Labour am a...moreKarl
01-5-2008The similarities between Labour and the Nazis are that once they are in power we have no bloody chance of getting them out again. Gordon Brown is not an elected prime minister, nobody wants him in power and everyone wants another election. In any other country in the world this would be called dict...moreGet in the real world
29-4-2008It is just another underhanded scheme to prize more money out of people, making people feel more miserable than what they already are. It is like this new ID card invention, if you happen to misplace it or not have it on person, guess what? Yer fined. How much money can they rake in on this one...morePete
29-4-2008Just can't understand why British people accept crazy initiatives, like having Bin Police without any kind of protest. It seems all our politicians have to do is come up with some stupid refuse policy and we just accept it, partly because the word "environment" has been widely used in ...moreTom
28-4-2008We don't recycle plastic here in Cambridge. All the plastic that could be recycled just goes in a bin. The last place I was at they were really big on it, about 15 miles from where I'm now living. Another method of trying to prize money from the working people by imposing these ridiculo...moreKarl
27-4-2008The difference between the Nazi party and the Labour Party is this : The Nazis presided over the strength and construction of Greater Germany and removed what they considered to be alien (ie non Aryan) elements, Labour are presiding over weakening and destroying the UK and filling it with alien e...moreMikeP

25-4-2008Our collections are going fortnightly come May and despite our best efforts to recycle, the waste bin still gets full within a week. We have 3 wheelie bins, one for waste, one for garden waste and one for paper/card. We recycle cans and bottles off our own back as the council don't provide bins ...moreYouthful Griper
25-4-2008They are a corporate bunch of Nazis. What has happened is our beloved govt. has handed over mass loads of power to these councils. 25-4-2008Our local council took somebody to court for having the incorrect rubbish in their bin for that particular week. They lost as the homeowner said they could not prove it was him that put it there as the bin had been put out Wed night, just before bedtime, for collection Thursday.
