Nightclubs just a rip off?

Ripped off in trendy bars

Paying too much?

Have you ever felt that once you have paid your fiver to get into a club that its a bit too much when the drinks are all £3 and £4 a go? Are you fed up with these rip off joints?

I know there's already an article on this web site that deals with dress code in bars and clubs but I think there are some other annoying features about these kinds of places the really needs to be pointed out before we all end up bankrupt.

25-5-2007The story in several pubs in London nowadays:- "Do you have a bag of peanuts?" Answer: "No! But we can sell you a small bowl of peanuts." "How much?" Answer: "£2-10p" "And a bag of crisps?" Answer: "We only sell high quali...moreLiving on the economic margins of B
12-3-2007don't like it, don't go. Can't really understand what the fuss is about, you have the choice of jdw or a trendy cocktail bar, agree with your mates and go to the one that suits you the best. Why should the bar that bothers to employ staff who know their stuff (and staff it well enough so...moretim
18-12-2006Totally agree.. UK is ripped off! Drinks here are so expensive, I was shocked by one bar I was in to find lemonade costing more than a pint, yet it was cheap lemonade not even pumped. Crazy or what.. but regarding alcohol.. stuff like doubles, etc are pretty expensive, averaging at £4.50GG
06-11-2006Alexandra was broke as soon as she got out of high-school. Her student loan went on for nearly a century. By the time she was 60 she could no longer afford a bedsit. As a pensioner she lived on hand-outs from the state.Downbeat
01-8-2005I think there is a descrepency what some people consider posh and what is really posh. The Yates, Weatherspoons, Slug and Lettuce, All Bar One, Pitcher and Piano are not posh and instead overly commmercialised and devoid of character and standards. The true posh bars are usually members only or bars...moreA. Greeves-Jackson
01-8-2005I love the trendy bars and wouldn't go anywhere else. Getting dressed up to look smart and elegant and sipping £10-£15 cocktails offers a lot more value. People behave much better and in places that you can avoid drunken louts, swearing and being greeted with "yew alrite?".Alexandra
28-4-2005A good issue this but I can't help pointing out to Horatio that you get pissed up tarts even in the hippest places.... they may have nicer clothes than the bints in the Red Rover (though not necessarily) but they are still ghastly.Chris - London
11-4-2005Weatherspoons rely on piling high and selling cheap - and they make more profit per venue than nearly any other chain pub operator, so its not like they are providing a community service, they simply generated a niche. We have a vicious circle now where people go to JDW at 8pm, drink until merry,...moreTheVoiceOfReason
25-3-2005Simple solution to not getting ripped off in trendy bars.dont go in them, more than likley to be full of puffs anyway.furiso
11-12-2004The sooner the brainless breweries / publicans understand and realise the harsh realities and adapt (as has good old JDW), the sooner pubs may stop going to the wall. £2.80 average for a pint of lager that you have had to battle with morons spread out across a bar to purchase, lungs full of sta...moreNobby
12-10-2004I don't understand your comment on the 'lack of options'... most nice bars tend to carry a wide range of rare spirits and liqueurs as well as cocktails and often a very well chosen wine list... my local 'trendy' bar doesn't even serve alcopops at all. plus I agree it's wo...moreHoratio
21-6-2004Jeff 10 quid a round.... bring it on..... I was in the big rip off town known as London meeting friends for a birthday on the weekend, 4 quid a bottle and £3.50 for a short! I think they are bloomin outrageous. I also dont drink often when out. Not that I a driving, I just stay quite healthy a...moreleigh
