Foreigners find UK people just a tad unfriendly

Why are English people so cold?

People in the UK not friendly?

Since first moving to the UK, I decided to move away again and have lived abroad for seven years. During that time I have never failed to make friends with the locals, and quickly too.

During the time I spent living in the UK I was always treated as a foreigner and found it difficult to form friendships with English people. Why are English people so cold and unfriendly to foreigners?

13-5-2008Hmmm... how come no one has written the gripe about the stereotypical American? Loud, arrogant, always sticking their nose in where it isn't wanted. The list could go on here too!Bob
13-5-2008I've often wondered the same thing. They seem so cold and self-important. I've gotten to know about 5 Brits in my life, and they were all cut from the same unfriendly cloth. It's a trip! They have no reason to act that way, yet time and time again they do. It's freakish...must b...moreJennifer - Los Angeles, California
12-5-2008Every Brit I've met thus far strengthens the stereotype we have of them. They are unfriendly and come across very cold and prudish. Screw them. The industrial revolution bypassed most of their cities anyway. Places like Norwich are charming, it's the people that make me not want to visit...moreJohn

25-4-2008Honestly most of the 'foreigner' jokes that get banded around are a joke. when the British mock you it means they think they know you well enough to get away with, meaning they like you. 22-4-2008Beware this is not a biological or unique trace. This can only happen when a nation attempts to inbreed, colonise ( play rightious because they made money from it), change religions for political convinience and then spend comtemporary times thinking in the LONG GONE PAST!ANCIENTGODDESS
