Consumerism at Christmas
I’m not against having a good time and enjoying the festive season but Christmas to me has become an ugly selfish time of year. We are bombarded with advertising to spend, spend, and spend some more.
|
I’m not an overly religious person, but it seems like the whole thing has been stolen, repackaged and sold back to us as a festival of eating, dinking and spending too much. Aren’t we forgetting the original Christmas message?

| 12-2-2008 | What really gets me about Chrismas these days is the sales starting on Boxing Day! For goodness' sake can't we go for more than one day without going shopping?
Why can't the January sales actually wait until January and let the poor people who work in the shops have a decent holiday ove...more | grumpyoldwoman |

In the supermarkets people go crazy, fighting like ferrets and start threatening each other over a loaf of bread. Must have seventy loaves and forty eight gallons of milk because the shops are closed for one day. TV comme...more | Peter Pan |

| 03-1-2007 | Well Christmas is finally over and the season to be jolly is no more. I totally agree with the writer though that it should be called "Cashmas". I for one spent way more than I should have done this year, but at least I didn't get myself into debt. Many people out there I am sure can...more | Matt |

I'll bet you lot NEVER objected when you were kids, expecting presents from santa.
Now the boots on the other foot, so to speak, and it's YOU who pays, your moaning.
It goes to show how how some ADULTS just ignore the children these days.
SHAME on you. | Hilda |
| 27-12-2006 | Start a National xmas present boycott And donate the money to charities- the look on the faces of retailers would be the best present you could have and it would put the meaning back into Xmas it would send out the right message to kids. It would be a win win win situation | KenB |
| 24-12-2006 | Oh dear, Mark. No family to share your Christmas. That is sad. We look forward to the arrival of our one and a half year old grandson today for a nice family Christmas. HAPPY CHRISTMAS to you all. | White Van Woman |
| 23-12-2006 | Humbug!!! I intend to spend Christmas day in my local pub getting pissed and taking the Mik out of people who insist on wearing their ridiculous 'Christmas' jumpers down the pub!
