I want go home at 5pm
I am contracted to work 37.5 hours per week. At the end of the day I want to go home to my family and spend some quality time with them. I don't think that is an unreasonable request, do you?
|
Why is it though that my employer is increasingly expecting me to work my lunch, come in early, leave late, and to dedicate my life soul to the company? I do not want to sit at my desk until late at night in case I get made redundant.

| 12-6-2008 | I agree with Noxidereus; we are all slaves and that includes the bosses!
Most bosses pretend.
Usually some directors have the fixed idea that employees should be kept in the dark causing so an unimaginable amount of trouble that can only be seen if you talked to each employee (and looked at thei...more | SuperBambinoCattivo |
| 11-6-2008 | Employers hold your ability to support your family over your head and they use fear to get you to do what they want. People should work to take this power away from employers and give more power to the employees. Why? Doesn't everybody have a choice on where to work, etc? Most employees are too ...more | Noxidereus |

| 23-5-2008 | Unfortunately, bosses and employees often take each other for granted, when they should remember that they are supposed to have a mutually beneficial arrangement. I come early and stay late with no financial or verbal acknowledgment but I think of my year end bonus as compensation for all the extras...more | hard working girl |
| 08-5-2008 | Well you're boss probably has a better grasp of the English language than you, presumably that is how he has managed to better himself and make a decent living. Don't ruin it for him by being a typical dumbass employee and slating him on a public website... Moron! | Your boss, get to work |
| 07-5-2008 | I hate my boss he is a right prat and owns a a run down scrapyard but think that because his got money he can talk to you the way he likes. | reece |
| 11-3-2008 | This is a no brainer as far as I am concerned, why should anybody work additional hours for no pay ? If your bosses were asked to supply their products and services to another business for nothing they wiuld be the first to withdraw. Time is money, if your asked to work it is your right to say no, i...more | Brains |
| 08-1-2008 | Hi Unions are Needed,
I think this Taffy fella does not exist or, if he does it only be right here. It's a wind-up and he's not real. | Karl K |
| 08-1-2008 | Have you ever met a stupid person like TaffyQuad before? I expect not. TaffyQuad works for his/her employer 70hrs a week. Are hey out of their mind? Why isn't 35-40 hours per weeek paying them a sufficient wage. Does TaffyQuad know that 70hrs a week is actually breaking the law? As well as damag...more | Unions are Needed |
| 08-1-2008 | Employers are indeed taking more and more liberties with their staff. And one thing that many of YOU are doing is playing directly into their hands by sacrificing your lunch breaks. Grabbing a sandwich on the run or going without food entirely is something that employers are bound to latch onto (if ...more | overfiftys |
| 15-12-2007 | If you want something out of life you need to put a lot in. You can achieve anything you want from life - it just depends on how much you really want it. Work life balance - it is about being assertive and saying no occaisionally. I work for a company that does not have trade unions - we don't ...more | TaffyQuad |
| 18-8-2007 | I am with Mr Trade Union on this one. We have had 20 years where union power has essentially been disabled by (Tory) legislation, although Labour has done nothing to restore it either.
Inevitably as the years go by more employers are trying to "Get away" with more and more.
As this ...more | Chris |
