Soaring electricity bills because of corporate greed

Electricity prices getting silly

Reduce my electricity bill!

As British citizens we should ask for our utilities to come back under OUR control, not foreign companies or share holders.  Left as it is, we are going to have a severe crisis.

Over the past 18 months we have heard the rumours and seen press statements about Electricity prices rising, but it’s getting silly now. Prior to privatisation we all paid reasonable amounts for these life sustaining products.

30-4-2008I live in a small 1 bedroom flat, I don't have gas, i'm away at work from 7.50-5.20. I'm quite energy conscious. I never leave things on stand-by and turn lights off when not in the room. I put an extra jumper on rather than turning the heating up. My current bill is £171 a month, i...moreSharon
19-2-2008My wife and I pay an average of 85 pounds per month on a pre pay meter for electricity alone. We have gas central heating in our three bed house. Four years ago I had 3 teenagers at home and my electricty was costing about 35 per month on the same pre pay scheme. Things are spiraling out of hand.LazloLazlo
28-1-2008To beat the energy increases we should all use only enough energy to cook with, turn the heating down or off and put more clothes on to keep warm. If enough people did this for a short time the energy companies would have to bring the price back down. It is called People Power. Look what People P...moreBri
18-1-2008British Gas raises prices by 15% http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7195811.stm Time we took the government to task to stop this madness. British Gas, owned by Windsor-based Centrica, said that it would make a loss this year without the price rise. Do you believe them?Disbelief
15-1-2008In a world were every jumped up politician or nerd is harping on about global warming, it would appear to me that plain old common sense has gone well before the ozone layer. Camden council lease holders have to pay a fixed gas bill each year. use it or not, it makes no difference. if I went away fo...morecamden council muppets
10-7-2007I have just phoned scottish power as my electric bill is showing that I am paying the same price per unit as I was at the beginning of this year . I was told electricity prices came down in June 07 but my rate is not changing as I do not pay by direct debit. This seems very unfair to me.rosemary
05-7-2007If 'New Labour' had the slightest conscience, they would re-nationalise water, gas, electricity, and railways. The fat cats just get fatter, filtering profits out of the country, whilst Britain grinds to a halt.Justice4all
19-11-2006And they can't read the meters properly either. The other day my meter was read by a meter-reader. He read it as 69023. Afterwards I checked it myself. The reading was 59032. Now I might get a huge bill in my next post which I am going to have to challenge. But what if I was moving house or chna...moreNikola Tesla
06-11-2006Wouldn't it be nice if Britain was a truly fair society with true equality and equanimity. But it isn't. Post-Thatcher people lost their social conscience and were sold on the idea that greed was good for you. That is a dead-end!Conscientious Objector
04-11-2006Wouldn't it be nice if for these extra high price rises we got improved services. But no, water bills go up and what we get in parts of the country are drought orders mainly because the companies have pipelines that want upgrading.Meanwhile water profits go up. The rail infrastructure need...moreBob
04-11-2006In the meantime the Government still takes its pound of flesh, the tax on energy, except where it was a pound it's now a kilo. For consider this: consume 1000 KWh of electricity at 5p in a month that would be £50. Plus tax at 5% that's another £2.50. But the price has risen nearly ...moreMr Frost
04-11-2006Hello "US" I know it is a slightly different topic, but on the subject of your president, it is really worthwhile checking out the video "Who killed the electric car" - it's very very very enlightening!Matt
