SW Trains overcrowded, UK railways

Overcrowding on South West Trains

South West Trains overcrowded

I mean anyone would think that South West trains are running a similar service to that in India where people literally hang out the windows and on the roof etc.

I commute daily to the City of London from Surrey. I use South West Trains to get into Waterloo everyday and I have to say their service is appalling. My gripe isn’t about delayed or cancelled trains, it's about the serious overcrowding.

30-4-2008Studies have shown that you're actually safer in an overcrowded train which crashes - people cushion each other from impact. Add to the fact that you're more likely to be struck by lightning or win the lottery jackpot than being in a train crash. The overcrowding is horrendous of course,...moreamarsh
02-2-2008problem is, train opperators can't afford to buy trains outright they have to lease them, the more they lease the more it costs, and they don't have the money to do that, Public transport is about business not public transport these days. My Dad works for them And I can assure you the Dri...moredaniel
13-1-2008You can't really blame South West Trains for the frequent overcrowding on peak-time services because it's the number of people choosing to travel from the same places at the same time in the morning that creates overcrowding. Where all the suburban routes into London converge around Clapham ...moreJames
12-1-2008I once travelled by South West Trains. I was trying to get to a meeting in Egham. Someone had boarded the train who hadn't paid their fare. Instead of proceeeding all the way to its destination, the train stopped at Ashford for half-an-hour whilst they waited for the police to eject the non-pay...moreHow not to run a train service
11-1-2008South West Trains = South West Torture After reading one gripe that I completely agree with, "Overcrowding on South West Trains", I felt I had something to say myself. Safety issues aside I feel SWT is a expensive, poorly run, disgrace. I have traveled between Walton on Thames and Lo...moreJ. Boyle
25-10-2007Unfortunately thats the way business works. The more people you can cram in a train the more you make. it doesn't matter that it's expensive for the customer, the train's a cramped heap of sweat-stinking diesel-farting crap. Sorry about the delays too but Network Rail are too busy mak...morePhil Pot
12-8-2007Ok. We'll raise your ticket prices above the rate of inflation to pay for even more shiny new carriages.... ...then watch this person whinge about the cost of travel rising!railway_bob
25-7-2007You have a choice whether you use the train or not. If you don't like it, don't do it. SWT's performance is at its best ever and that is why people want to use the trainal
21-3-2007I don't think their services are that bad !!!! Most, if not practicly all of their trains are on time !!! It's not SWT fault if their's overcrouding ... if anything it's a good sign because it means that their services have improuved and people are turning back to trains. It's t...morepeter

14-12-2006I have for years commuted from Teignmouth to Exeter on a train leaving about 7-50 & getting me in Exeter in good time to start work by 8-30. People compained that it was always full & needed more carriages. So what did SW trains do? They took it off this week leaving a choice between the 7-1...moreGrumpy
