Local radio stations play the same old music

Local radio stations
I want to know what exactly is going on here. Why are all the commercial radio stations playing from the same play list, sometimes in a different order, and now the same quizzes?
|
I have noticed for some time now that all the commercial radio stations that I can tune in to seem to have the same play lists. It really cracks me up when they advertise themselves as 'your local music variety station' or whatever.

| 07-3-2008 | I've just started listening to the arrow, 60% is good music but I have to question their interpretation of "rock". I wouldn't class the police or REM as rock bands, some of the tracks they play are just not rock. I do like the lack of adverts on it though. | Hugh Janus |
| 22-2-2008 | I've just recently got a DAB radio and was scanning what was in my area (Yorkshire), I was expecting some massive choice, instead I've got 3 RnB/Hip Hop stations, at least 5 general chart music, 2 religious!??, too many talk channels and 3 rock channels, oh and 1 classical. Not a very varied...more | Don Kiddick |
| 05-12-2007 | I listen (or should I say listened) to radio York and I've got to say it has really gone down the pan. My favourite show, Hot Country, has now been reduced to one hour instead of the 3 hour show it used to be, I am sick of hearing about Reynolds and Co too, it's like every f****ing half hour...more | Andy Cawood |

| 02-11-2007 | I listen to radio Hallam all the time, Sheffield based. It's professionally presented, informative, regional, funny, up to date and caters for all those that care to write in. Good on yer! | Tony - Sheffield |
| 02-11-2007 | Oh man, I've listened to that Reynolds and Co garbage, it's just copying what nearly every other radio station has. An unfunny breakfast show. There's a photo of him on the web site, some southern greaser by the look of it. | Mickey The Mooner |
| 18-8-2007 | Just found this site looking for somewhere to post my annoyance about Radio York, you can't post anything on their web site. I think they have lost the plot totally. It's all messed up, weekends are pretty bad now, sport on all Saturday afternoon, programmes moved to AM to allow sport to be ...more | Not Happy |
| 06-8-2007 | I listen to Radio York all day and most evenings and weekends. I do find the Reynolds and Co trailers really annoying, I agree, why do we need to hear them over and over again, they are obviously trying to compete with a commercial station, probably Minster.
Also the programs they are currently run...more | Brian Damage |
| 04-8-2007 | Just out of interest, does anyone else listen to Radio York on a regular basis? They have a new breakfast show, but how many times do we have to have it rammed down our throats with trailers for Reynolds and Co?? Six, seven, eight times a day? I am sick of hearing it, if anything it has a negative e...more | Yorkshire Pooding |
| 31-7-2007 | Here we go again. Radio York was just getting a good playlist, varied and at last using quite a bit of stuff from the archive...... but Rabbie on twice in the day??? Is it me or is there definately a BBC and rabbie connection? Somebody please enlighten me!! Nice lyrics Frank!! I wish someone here wo...more | Yorkshire Pooding |
| 27-7-2007 | I've heard that it isn't the local stations that have the say in what they play, they are given a selection of songs from central BBC. Dunno whether this is true or not. Yorkshire, how can you not like podgy robbie, with such classic lyrics as: "my breath smells liked I've sucked a ...more | Frank D'Georgio |
