They don't fix the problem
Shouldn't we be paying the money to fix the problem, hence using an expert in the first place? Not financing a complete trial and error process that always seems to be in the region of a few hundred pounds?

My gripe is with the big garages and in particular vehicle repairs and the quotes you are given where they don’t fix the problem, but charge you a ridiculous amount anyway.

| 15-5-2008 | just took mine into the garage for a new clutch cable which they apparently didn't replace when they replaced the clutch last month, the breakdown guy told me it would cost around £20 for a cable and was a quick job but the garage had the car for a week and charged me £160 to replace t...more | Tez |
| 10-5-2008 | Mechanics all have a price book for what to charge and how long it should take for each job.For example a water pump on a 1987 Chevy truck would be 2 hours to install and the cost of the part. Now if mechanics want the professional title, then they must use a professional time limit for every job.Outs...more | Lee Julich |

I was under the impression that a quote was binding, ie that was what you pay. An estimate is non binding ie a rough guess.
I could be wrong about this so give the citizens advice a ring. | SteveK |

| 02-11-2007 | Avoid Vauxhall garages at all costs. Take your motor elsewhere to be fixed for they really like to pull your trousers right down at Vauxhall.
