Cars parked on the pavement causing obstruction

Car parking
It is a pity the traffic wardens are not sent away from the main shopping centres sometimes to help stop this happening. I’m sure that after a few parking tickets the constant offenders would soon stop!

People who are guilty of parking on the pavements! This drives me totally insane. Why do these idiots think that the safety of their precious cars is more important than people’s right to walk safely?

| 17-8-2010 | What the hell is wrong with these people or the council or the police!!!!!!
But if you scratched their cars with a pram they soon be on your case.

| 17-8-2010 | I use to go out every sunday with my neighbour who likes to walk as she is elderly but we have stopped going as there are so many ignorant people parking on the pavement and its difficult to pass and we have to walk on the road, What is most stupid is the Council say there is nothing they can do about it, I think apart from road tax they should be charged pavement tax. We even put notes on saying do you know you are illegally parked. What on earth is the country comming to when it lets cars park on pavements and people having to walk on roads | anne |
| 08-8-2010 | The 1993 Traffic Act made a disctinction between pavement parking in Lindon and elsewhere, and this has been taken as the definitive answer, even by some police forces and local authorities. However, the 1835 Highways Act, Section 72, prohibits driving ANY vehicle on a footpath, and this is still often used to prosecute cyclists and motorcyclists (quite rightly), but not motorists,it seems. The matter has been brought before parliament several times, and it is agreed that mounting the pavement in order to park is an offence - some police forces accept this and issue cautions, while others seem to think the 1993 Act makes it alright - it doesn't. By the way, local authorities that permit pavement parking may therefore be encouraging a breach of the 1835 Act themselves; something to think about... | ampy1950 |

Reporting illegal parking to the police is often a fruitless task given conflicting priorities and varying demands upon the service and n addition as parking offences are largely de-criminalised enforcement is not (usually) a police function anyway.
You would be likely to receive a more positive response from the local authority (or their parking enforcement contractor), especially if they are working within a bonus system. | Congo |
| 16-7-2010 | "so were do I go from here."
It would be a pity if someone's car got badly scratched by a passing mobility scooter or wheelchair, or if the wing mirror got snapped off. By the way they tend to snap off more easily if accidentally forced from the back to the front, rather than the other way round. | MikeP |
| 16-7-2010 | I keep reporting cars parked on double yellow lines and the pavement and one is parking on a disabled acces ramp, the police cannot be bothered to come out and do anything,so were do I go from here. | tiger22007 |
| 06-7-2010 | Get f**ked dave! Your are talking out of yer big, hairy, sweaty ar*e. Parking on the pavement IS illegal unless signs say otherwise (which I think is bloody stupid). Parking on the pavement SHOULD be banned (if only to piss you of , ya big nancy). | son of j |
| 23-6-2010 | "Of course! That's because they don't want to hurt you. Actually they really just don't want all the legal hassle and the interference in their lives."
Yes, well we pedestrians don't want to hurt their finances and interfere in their lives either, but we're willing to do it if they encroach on our territory. | Selfishness invites punishment. |
| 23-6-2010 | "Ever seen how annoyed drivers get when you stand/walk in the road?"

| 23-6-2010 | If you see a car parked on the pavement, telephone the police immediately. This is clearly a driver who can afford parking infringement fines and so why give her/him a parking discount. She/he is practically begging you to call them in, so you must oblige. If everyone does this, the problem will soon disappear. To ignore the problem and only gripe about it here is to encourage the problem which will worsen and expand. | 14-6-2010 | Get ALL cars off the pavement. It's for walking on not for parking your bloody car on! | jj |
