Wet shaving, wrong blades for razor handle
|

Did you get the wrong ones?
Have you ever needed to buy replacement razor blades and found that they don't fit the handle that you have? It's so frustrating that the Gillette Mach 3 and Sensor 3 packets look similar.

Razor blade companies have quite literally got us by the short and curly; with expensive replacement cartridges and incompatible fittings. It’s enough to make want to grow a beard.

| 09-8-2010 | Saw the comment from motormotor. I agree on the high cost, and I am interested in buying abroad in larger quantities. Just let me know of your plans. | LK |
| 03-8-2010 | I totally agree with all you say. I was given Gillette Fusion for Christmas and replacement cartridges are astronomical in price. Furthermore Gillette have already lost interest and are pushing another version using batteries Power Fusion.
However did you know you can still get double edged safety razor blades such as Wilkinson sword etc. on the net. I have a Gillette Adjustable safety razor but it seems awfully heavy by comparison with modern cartridge types and of course has afixed head. | macaroni1st |
| 02-8-2010 | Yes very frustrating & very very expensive 4 Gillette Fusion Blades cost me £11 in ASDA razor blades should be like jigsaw blades, as in one fits all Dewalt Bosch etc All have same fittings, Gillette the best a man can get! But @ a Price - They Give a Good Shave Though - jon.buck2@ntlworld.com | Jon Buck |
| 28-7-2010 | I 100% agree with the comments on this forum. I cannot believe how expensive Mach 3 razor blades are to replace. I paid 7.87GBP in my local TESCO for 5 recently. And so much for leading supermarkets saying they are cheaper than each other - there is no price reduction/comparison on daily essentials like shaving! Its a complete scam.
I checked out EBay too, but there are a few warnings that you may get a dodgy 'non-Mach 3' set on there. I may switch to a DE razor (will have to learn not to cut my throat first) or indeed disposable ones. | Q8 Shaver |
| 13-7-2010 | I have used Gillette Sensor blades for a few years. Why have I suddenly found a the odd one in a park that will just not go blunt.!!
I have had my current 'head' for the past 4 months and it still shaves just fine. I use the old fashioned method of hot water and a shaving brush - none of this spray foam. | ronjones3@gmail.com |
| 09-7-2010 | I'd offer to exchange, having made the same mistake myself. Unfortunately, however, I also have a Mach 3 handle and a pack of Sensor blades sitting in my bathroom cabinet doing nothing. Has anyone managed to make the error the other way round? | stun |
| 06-6-2010 | Anybody up for splitting the cost of a crate of cheap shaver cartridges? going to buy from abroad and after I have been expunged for import duty and VAT they will still be a lot cheaper, I wont say where getting from as the big companies call this cheap stuff "grey imports" ie its perfectly legal but they wish it was made illegal to buy things from anywhere apart from where they want you to.....anybody interested? | motormotor |
| 14-5-2010 | We're a family of 8 and we switched to wet shaving with DE razors. Honestly, not only are we saving money like mad, we're getting far better shaves than we ever did. ONE blade, ONE swipe, and you're smooth. When they started pushing 3 to 4 blades, we realized we were actually getting worse and worse shaves. It took 3-4 swipes to get my legs smooth. You'll honestly pay for your razor and blade purchase within a year and then laugh at people who still use cartridges and disposables. Your dad and grandpa knew what they were doing. Try it. | Momster |
| 05-3-2010 | if you don't shop when you are in a hurry you are not likely to make mistakes. Quite often today people blame their mistakes on everyone else. Firstly don't shop when you are in a hurry; large shops are open 24 hours a day, so surely there is time to shop at your leisure making mistakes less likely. I do agree that manufacturers are in a bit of a cartel when it comes to making incompatible rather than universal product accessories.
Thirdly read the packet!! | dazzyd |
| 15-2-2010 | I agree completely! I have a collection of various systems and am getting tired of this nonsense.

| 12-2-2010 | The original business model of King Gillette ( I kid you not ) was to sell the safety razor cheap and make a killing on the blades. He would be proud of the current management of his company. Printer manufacturers etc. are just copying his model. My advice - shave with a cut throat razor ! | bazwalk |
| 16-1-2010 | I agree totally with your comments about the blade scam. I suspect if excessive profit is proven then they should have there asses fined.
Similar to the Printer ink cartridge scam.
The best is the Flash floor cleaner scam, first sell it as a powder. Then add some water then sell it as a concentrated solution. Finally add more water and market it as ready to use. Each time the amount of cleaning product is reduced and the profit increases, you can even market a semi disposable floor mop to use with the spray on liquid. | normanfromayr |
