Dole scroungers living the life of Riley

Hello Everyone, I would like to share with you my thoughts about the idle dole scroungers in this country.  I for one, am fed up to the back teeth with the way things are and how some people can have an easy life doing nothing whilst others make all the effort and work hard.

I own and run a small shop and work around 50 hours a week.  I am very lucky to own my own flat (outright) bought by hard work and saving since I was 16.  This is in complete contrast to my upstairs neighbour.  He is at least 20 years younger than me and in the three years he has lived in the flat upstairs he has never worked.  The flat has broken windows, he sits outside the front of the property drinking all day, and the garden is an absolute rubbish tip (you get the idea).

Yesterday he mentioned to me (as I was going to work!) that the council has cut his housing benefit by 15 per week and he did not know how he was going to manage (such a shame).  He then said he wants to look for a job, but nothing pays anything like what he gets in benefits so what was the point in working.

Fed up paying for dole scroungers I earn just over 200 week from my own business, (this works out at around 4 per hour, well below minimum wage) and I honesty wonder whether it is worth working any more sometimes myself as my neighbour gets almost all of his rent paid in full, his council tax paid and claims disability benefit (for alcoholism?).  So pound for pound this dole scrounger upstairs is far better off than me!  Is this really fair?

I often see him getting in late at night after having been out drinking, getting out of a taxi no less!  My work van is 10 years old with 150,000 miles on the clock and I cannot afford to take a taxi to the post office never mind go out on for a night of drinking.

Is it just me or is anyone else fed up of working long hours with little in return whilst others seem to have a great life and yet contribute nothing to society?  The thing that tops it all off is that due to the way this man lives his life and the complete lack of upkeep of his 'free' property, if I did want to sell my home no one in their right mind would want to buy it!  He has in effect made my flat completely worthless which means I have worked all of these years for NOTHING!  I am sick and fed up of working hard for very little return when its all laid out on plate for the dole scroungers!

Comments are welcome.

Regards

Dave

These posts are hilarious. There will be 6 types of poster here:-

1. People with jobs moaning at the scroungers

2. Scroungers defending their "government" funded life

3. Internet trolls who are probably scroungers and are playing the system because they intimately its flaws and understand how it works, and are making inciting posts just to laugh at the reactions from others.

4. People who want sympathy for scroungers because they can't find a job at the moment, and have had to become scroungers.

5. People with jobs, who are trying to be as diplomatic as possible in their posts, to try and appease both the workers and the scroungers who read the posts.

5. Incredibly bored people who find reading these posts very amusing. They may be scroungers of have a job. (I think I fall in this category).

Stop letting silly crap like ths "make your blood boil", stress is bad for you. Think of all the starving people in the world, all the people living in attrocious living conditions, people being exploited by big corporations and getting a weekly pay check that wouldn't even but a loaf of bread in this country. Is your life really that bad? You can sit there sniping at people on opposite sides of the fence, getting pissed off, or you could go and spend this time doing something you enjoy...

Hello Dave,

I am probably what you would describe as "dole scum". I have been out of work for 4 months now. Nobody will hire me. My benefits pay everything for me.

But guess what? I have a 2.1 degree. I left college and high school with B-A* grades. I have 5 years of retail experience behind me, have run numberous art exhibitions, cat-walk shows and networking events. I have run workshops for kids, designed webpages, curated massive installations and done pretty much any creative thing you can think of!

My point being, not everyone who claims benefits is "dole scum"- I apply for as many jobs as I can, I want to be a window dresser or work self employed. The simple fact is there is no help out there for me. I am better on benefits than trying to aim for any of those things. If I post out jobs trying to be a sales assistant they don't pick me because I have a degree. If I aim for window dressing roles I need to do an NVQ, but can't as it has to be self-funded as I have a degree. If I try to become self-employed I will be out of pocket, because I am unemployed (they would obviously stop jobseekers if i became self-employed). Thats not a problem with me- its a problem with the government! There should be more scheme out there to help people with the proper training, and get them into work.

I agree that your neighbour sounds like a rotton bit of work, but it was your choice to go self-employed. Most businesses will lose money in the first 3 years. You can't moan about your own choices.

The real villian here is the government. Its tragic that people end up turning to alcoholism. It *is* a disorder, and needs proper care and health expertise. If it was your father or your brother I'm sure you wouldn't be half as mad.

Just a few things for you to think about, but overall, yes, I agree.

Smurf

I think you are going to hell.
And your life probably isn't even enjoyable. You are on disability which means unless you have a real disease (e.g downs syndrom, blind, no leg) then everyone knows you're a scrounger and the only friends you have is your scrounger friends. Also, being that lazy you will be able to enjoy the fact that your children will either grow up to hate you or grow up to be like you. SO when you tuck yourself in at night, with your quilt that i paid for, and snuggle up next to your prescrioption for drugs intended to passify you so the rest of society can't hear your tantrums, and dream about things your'll have like dignity or self respect, know that i'm happy i pay taxes because that night there is some six year old little girl who gets menigitious and needs hosipital care and my that most of my taxes go to to her, not you.

susie.

I don't think you understand. The OP's naighbour is on DISABILITY benefit which is around 10,000 a year PER PERSON for not having to lift a finger or work or even show he's receiving treatment for his alcoholism. On top of that he will also qualify for other free stuff, and any kids this guy has can also be classified as disabled with ADD (atention deficit disorder / doesn't pay attention) and recieve that money too. It's AWFUL!

sounds to me like its making you sick. just pity the fellow and move on otherwise it will destroy your health. you should be proud of working and by showing your proud you should be able to hold your head high. your next door neighbour has no life nor respect for himself nevermind anyone else. He cant be happy and thats probably why he drinks so much. Pity him and move on....

Actually my comment about Smurf was actually meant to be directed at 'Respect The Goverment'. A minor point that I would like to clarify, and before you poke fun at my error, or make a smart comment about getting my facts straight, I would like to point out that my comments are still valid, thank you.
In reality it's not just directed at any one person here, but 'Respect the Goverment' is an example of the typical person that is far too selfish and short-sighted to see or to care about anyone but themselves. It would be fine, but the fact is other people are affected by the selfishness of these people and we really shouldn't have to put up with losing out because of the selfishness of others.

Smurf you would have made me laugh but you are probably actually being serious. You are saying the government pays your money. Where do you think the goverment gets money from? Is it the magic money-fairy? It's the people who work of course!!!! You are all take take take, me me me. It is you who chose to have all of those children that you cannot afford and we are having to pay for them, we have to pay for your cigarettes, your drink and guess what, we have to pay for you to go to hospital when you end up with health problems due to YOUR personal life-style choices, and it's US that end up without an adequate pension because we've been paying for you and your friends! You can't tell me that's right or fair. Some people try to put into society, people like you just take from it and create economic problems for us all. I hope your kids grow to take responsibility for themselves and their lives, I really hope they don't copy your attitude.
As for people on the dole - the dole is there for those who have been trying to find work, or those who have lost their jobs - those who need it as a temporary safety-net while they get back on their feet. It can take a long time and people can be pout of work for months or even years. I appreciate that and the dole should be there for them. The dole should not be abused by people who want to bum around at everyone's expense taking from the UK's tax-payers and podding out kid after kid to get even more benefits. The fact that so many people are defending their selfish lifestyles is scary and very telling of the attitude that's making this country go down-hill fast. Please grow up!!!

Hi Dave, I agree to a certain extent, but there are a few things to consider here. Its not the scroungers who are getting one over on you, its the government. My guess is, if there were more jobs and fair pay there would be more working. But no doubt, some would linger regardless on booze/drugs.

But the simple truth is, for many people it simply makes better financial sense to claim benefits than work. Who's fault is that?

If you die owning a house, unhappy, and there's a scrounger deliriously drunk every day, but dies happy...who's the fool?

My point is, that you deserve better, but complaining about the benefits system wont change it. You get too little back for what you put in. Your business isn't working out..forget what others are getting, concentrate on yourself.

There is a woman living next door to me. She's only early 50's. When she goes out she has a taxi pick her up and take her where she wants to go (paid for by the disability). She makes a show when she walks to the taxi so the driver gets out and opens the door etc etc. She wears a neck brace, has two walking sticks, leg braces and in februrary she had a £4000 mobility scooter delivered. To look at her you'd think she was in a bad way, like she'd been struck by lightening after the bus had hit her.

But went she thinks no-one can see her she takes all her braces off and ditches the sticks. I've seen her move 30 breeze blocks from one corner of the garden to the other, hoover, move furniture or play with her grand children like theirs nothing wrong.

I've paid all my dues. I worked while I was at school. I worked while I was at University and only took the minimum student loan available thinking that there might be someone less fortunate that needs more help with fees than I did. I've been lucky that I've never been out of work. The guy that lives oposite is the same, paid all his life since he left school. He lost his job at the begining of April this year he was only given 3 weeks jobseekers because of some burocratic rubbish. There's no sense in it at all.

I reported the woman next door to the disability last week after she made a comment about the guy over road being "doley scum". We'll see how clever she is now when she genuinely doesnt have a leg to stand on.

I served in the British Army for over 25 years. I am not entitled to one Penny from the Sate. I am not even entitled to job seekers allowance. I do not qualify for any form of allowances, all because I have a monthly pension.

I have grafted my rocks off for that in every hostile hole all over the world and paid my stamp and taxes throughout.

When I see all the scratch-card Kings and Queens and those with eight kids spending £70 on spirits at the local Spar, It makes my blood boil. Just the other day, this guy, complete waster, spent £100 on scratch cards. He won £30 and exchanged for cards at £5 a go. He walked away with nothing in such a short time as he went through all of them outside the shop front.

These oxygen thieves have not one ounce of integrity in their wretched bodies. Far too much cash and time on their hands. They are rats swimming toward a sinking ship.

Dave, you are so right, I am a disabled pensioner but I have worked most of my life and I see loads of people who have never worked in their lives, it is soul destroying to see scum on DLA for alcoholism or druggies screaming and shouting how hard done to they are, and then you have the baby machines who have babies so they dont have to work and then they bring them up as special needs kids so they get DLA for them and the next generation of misfits come along. I cant believe that these people get away with it because now it just goes from generation to generation.

I think that you need to sit back and reflect on the success of your business. You make £200 a week! That may be the reason that your jealous of the lay about who gets more money than you. The difference is that you cannot change his payments or how he lives his life. What you can change is how you run your business and how you live your life. So I suggest you step back and assess your business, maybe seek some guidance, and try to double, triple, quadruple that £200 and try to focus on things that you can actually change.

Have you noticed that there's a lot of stigma associated with the word 'dole'? I'm pretty sure those living on it also experience it as well. The majority of people who are on benefits have very little incentive to get out of the downwards spiral they have entered...I say let them to it.

I have juggled work alongside my secondary school/ now university education ever since I got my national insurance number. Before that I worked a paper round. I have always been doing some form of work so it's hard for me to imagine a life where every day you lie around doing nothing. Sure it's pure great to never have to work and get money to boot but a life like that sounds very unfulfilling if not dull.

It seems that us workers have the bad end of the stick compared to the others but I would still rather work than be on benefits if I could- we have it ingrained into our minds that we should work for what we have; even in past centuries you worked on the farm for the food on your plate, in a very broad sense it's the same today. When you get time off you feel like you EARNED it, and that makes it all the more worthwhile and you make the most of it.

So I can understand why the OP and a few commenters would feel very angry against those on the dole, but I personally think it's better to just let them be and get on with our own lives. Hate just breeds more hate. Everybody loses. Yet if we just accept it and try to focus on more important things other than just calling out people (not eyeing any past comment in particular) then we can learn to move on. Complaining is good for you, but name-calling and judging isn't.

I know people with kids and never worked a day in their life and still manange to drive around in their sporty car all day long. Stop their benefits and if they don't get off their lazy ass and work then they will starve, who would care as the country would be better off without the scum.

I am on these bennefits and love my life. I am sorry that you work like a fool whilst I get to enjoybthe sun each day and get my free nice flat and watch my jerremy kyle on the big screen. The best bit is watching my kids grow up whilst you sweat on the train and then hand me 20 % of your salary, thanks though, when my kids grow up and get on drugs and steal from you, I will appologise then.

Mrs speaker, what a pointless comment!
I dont know why everyones so hacked off! I have to claim benefit, I have no choice. I could never get childcare for my 9 children, no employer would pay me the £1000 weekly I get now, and the dads havnt bothered sticking around. Before u go having a rant at me, I need money to feed the kids, I smoke, which costs a fortune and I like a drink. If the kids need clothes I have to buy from charity shops otherwise I cant have a smoke & I get ratty and want to shout! IT IS THE GOVERNMENT that pays me, not you so why you bothered
