School run parents with their 4x4

Oh no, it’s school run mum (or dad) with their 4x4, taking the kids to school; what an absolute nightmare they are!  I see them every day on the way to work in their 'off road' vehicles, dropping their little darlings off at the school gates in their "4x4 school bus".

I have no issues with the fact that they drive their kids to school, and in the world we live in today with so many downright nasty people around it's probably a good idea.  I know that I would probably do the same if I ever had kids.  I'm not even having a go at them for the type of vehicle they drive either, although it must be said, a four-wheel drive monster is a bit much for the school run.  It can be such a good laugh watching them playing dodgems with the other parents outside the school gates.  Surely the small economical family car, or even a people carrier would be much more sensible?

School run parents with their 4x4

Actually, my problem with these people really has more to do with their general attitude, and the lack of consideration they show others when driving to and from school.  They roll up every morning, park right in front of someone’s driveway and then proceed to unload all their kids.

School run - woe betide anyone who gets in their way

By this time all the doors to the vehicle are open preventing other traffic from moving freely up and down the road.  They then just stand their and have a good old gossip with one of the other mums, meanwhile little Johnny and his siblings play right in the middle of the road with their school chums.  It is chaos I tell you!

Personally I would hate to live right next to the school as some people do, and to have to witness this zoo every morning.  To make matters worse, once they’ve dropped off the children, that's when they suddenly decide they’re running late themselves, and woe betide anyone who gets in their way!  This is when I most often encounter the school run mum.  Driving down a road with parked cars on either side, it’s a game of chicken.  A game I always loose, because they’re so up their own backside they don’t think about anyone else.  Charging straight at you, regardless of the fact that the parked cars are on their side and theoretically it’s you that has right of way; you are the one who always has to pull up onto the kerb to let them pass.

They are just so selfish and rude!  I often feel like taking a different route to work just so that I don’t have to deal with them.  Please, let’s bring in the big yellow school buses so we can get the school run mum off the road?

"I drive a Hummer"

You don't really do you. More likely would be a Vauxhall Zafira Shitbox or a Vauxhall Meriva Spasti-Bus.

0/10 for trolling. Miserable effort.

I drive a Hummer. The king of all 4x4's. It does 4 MPG and I live in a City so it has never seen mud. Deal with it. HA!

Zyrcona/Jumbo. 4x4 vehicles are vehicles driven by idiots who think it gives them a bit of status or bully power. To try & justify their use in this country is silly. There are rare circumstances when their use might be justified, taking the kids to school is not one them.
PS Zyrcona you know nothing of suspension.

Some women I know who have children have wrecked their pelvises giving birth. This makes it harder to walk, hence the need to drive. Only where I live, it seems a cement truck went down the road depositing dollops of its load on the public highway. I did try to complain about this, but I was told it was a 'traffic calming measure'. Anyway, this necessitates the driving of an off-road vehicle with suspension designed to cope with uneven terrain. QED.

4X4 are no bigger than "normal cars" they are just Higher up. I sold my Land rover which fitted on the drive, but my new VW passat only just fits. And also it drinks about the same amount of diesel. Its a big myth dreamed up by the politician's to divide and rule the motorists.

A land rover can last up to 30 years if treated well, just imagine the carbon thats produced by making all those little cars that are replaced ever year or two by the owner. The scrapage scheme did more to harm the environment than any 4X4. Open your eyes and look at the bigger picture.

Just Think,4x4 do not "kill" the environment. 4x4s make up a small percentage of all cars on the road. You're the one being "rediculas" here.

4x4 parents are rediculas in my oppinion. If they are in a car like that they are more likely to run over and kill a child. They are killing the environment yet are the same people who insist on organic bags for carrying food and recycle cansand bottles. Why not just NOT drive the gas guzzling 4x4 and then you wouldn't need to worry about little William's asthma or little Imogen getting run over at the school gate.

These people will often quote safety as justification for using these antisocial and unecessary vehicles. I ask them one question: If, heaven forbid, your child was knocked over by a car, which type of vehicle would cause most damage? I rest my case.

The problem is a lot of these women can't park their 4x4s properly. They take up 2 spaces in the car-park, or park really close to the car next to them so you can't get in or out or just abandon their vehicles on the zig-zag lines at pedestrian crossings which I believe is illegal. So it is not generalisation, it is a fact. They are a menace on the roads and in the community. They are rude, arrogant and downright obnoxious. Unfortunately, their choice of vehicle is a 4x4 for image and prestige so therefore the 4x4 gets a bad reputation.

Generalisations. That is all it is. People have the ability to drive 4x4's properly and a lot of them do. Just like people that complain about Nissan Micra drivers unable to attain 30mph.

I suppose you buy a car at your own risk and whatever make or appearance the car has means that you also have to deal with generalisations. Understandable that this thread is about mothers and also fathers that feel the need to drive 4x4's but that doeesn't label all 4x4 drivers as egotistical, self absorbed idiots with an inferiority complex.

xxx - it is possible to like a vehicle without wording why. I don't own a 4x4. I have driven them and I just like them. That simple. I don't like how some are driven, however, I don't like the way more light vehicles are driven.

maybe, they think they are on a safari trip and all the kids are rhinos! Maybe, they have to drive through mud and dirt to get to their destination. Maybe they feel they have achieved something. Maybe they might prefer a tank next. The 4 x 4 is what it is - a play time car for silly mums.

Ga ga - owning a vehicle doesn't always boil down to inferiority or ego boosting. That is a narrow minded comment. Especially as those two options are insulting. How about, "because I just like 4x4's".

DSG - why do you need a 4x4? Is it to make your ego even bigger than what it is? Or do you suffer from an inferior complex ?

I wouldn't stereotype all 4x4 drivers as ignorant, belligerent snobs who look down on other drivers and think:ooh I have a bigger car hahaha, but there are a minority who do spoil it all for the other drivers.

What a joke those mums are to drive a 4 x 4 . Maybe they think they are on a Safari trip!
Maybe they desperately want everyone to look up to them? They seem very insecure because they are so image conscious and need to please or look better.

Well, they do say the owner is like their car. A big Guzzler!

Mums in 4x4's with one tiny baby in the back ........ Why? Compensating for something big hubby doesn't have? I think it's a fashion thing for mums to have a 4x4 and I don't see why they need it unless they have like 5 kids which the mums I know don't. Seems a bit of a silly gripe but I couldn't resist my moan lol!

Live right beside a school, School run Mum blocks my drive every morning and it enrages me.
Cant wait for the day Little Johnny and his mates get wiped out by the boy racer in his VTR or Civic and the council finally get yellow lines painted.

Where we live is adjacent to a school and we are on the outside of a 90 degree bend. The mothers would park their 4x4`s and other cars all down the road and on the inside of this bend, often two hours before the school emptied so that they could bag a spot, then nip off to do some shopping. After several years complaining, the council finally put double yellow lines round the bend and some 20 yards either side. There was a car parked 2 cars lengths away from the bend when the planks from the council came to paint the lines. consequently, for several weeks there was always a single car parked in this `gap` in the lines, before they came to join them up. I have just bought a small house near the Suffolk coast, and the first thing I did was to consult the local map to see where the schools were, so as to buy as far away from them as possible.
