I am really cheesed off that eBay has decided to ban the sale of Live 8 tickets.  It's plain and simple just another case of the moralistic few trying few trying to impose their will on others.  Who is actually being hurt when they are sold?  Why all the fuss?

I am really very annoyed about what has happened here.  I have no problems with eBay removing items up for auction for reasons of legality, or to protect consumers.  This is okay because the law needs to be upheld and it has been done for a good reason.  To remove items for moral reasons however is just wrong!  Why are they listening to the likes of Bob Geldof?  Is it up to eBay to tell us what is right and wrong now?  Bob, get of your soapbox!  You did a good job last time round, but we don’t OWE you our hearts and minds!

Ebay, Bob Geldof, Live 8

Remember that those people actually spent money sending text messages to get these tickets. They own them now, and as such should be free to do with them what they like, and that includes selling them on eBay.

Live 8 should really have known in the first place that some people would opt to sell their tickets. Naturally, some people are also greedy and will seek to make maximum profit; I guess this is just another facet of human nature and there’s not much we can do about that.

Fair play to Sir Bob for having a crack at solving a few world problems again.  Personally I think he's a bit misguided and I don't give a damn about this concert myself.  I do however, object very strongly to people telling me what I can and can't do with my property.  So please, don’t try to tell us how to think, and let people sell 'their' property as and when they please!

I agree people should be allowed to sell tickets on Ebay but at the end of the day, when you have greedy idiots who try to sell a £100 ticket for £2000!! It says it all. I feel even more sorry for the silly beggar that buys them at at that price

eBay pretty much does as it likes and there's not much you can do about it. If they want to ban something suck as ticket sales then they can - go elsewhere.

well in this instance, well done Ebay in stopping the sell of Live 8 tickets. You think they would have learnt the first time around that the money goes to heads of those undeveloped countries so they can buy weapons to keep killing their own people with! So well done Ebay on not helping with the slaughter of thousands of lives in Africa!

Geldope is a blatant egotist plain and simple.
He had a couple of half decent hits a few decades ago, which is more than you can say for bonehead bono and U2, another bunch of hopeles egotists jumping on the political and Charity bandwagon as they age.

Having said that though, Geldorfs tv series on africa is quite interesting, with some decent historical fact thrown in, particularly regarding the africans being their own slavemasters along with the arabs. At least his researcher has all her marbles.

Well said Mark!!!!

Your right mairtin, I'm so bitter that I wish I could wear sun glasses all the time...even inside during winter (so I can be really 'cool')And my ego is soooo massive due to my huge consumption of cocaine...so much cocaine that I feel the need to strut around on stage and impose my views on politics, religon and morals to those 'poor', 'ordinary' people who have to work for a living! Oh yes!! Your right.I think giving to charity is a great thing to do if you strongly want to help...the only problem I have is people who advitise the fact and enjoy telling other people how much great work they do for other people..self publicising! just goes to show how low on self esteem and how insecure these people really are! 'Look at me' 'See how great I am..see how much money I make and can give away...yeah really great'
I'm afraid you are guilty my friend of being more intrested in going on about 'who my favourite pop bands are' rather than sorting out the very real problems that millions of people have to suffer. It's just pathetic...going on about 'music' or 'stars', are you so stuck in your playground mentality that you think I actually care what you or anyone thinks about my views on a few poncey rock stars? Do you think some starving person in the middle of Sudan or Congo actually gives a damn about 'who's the best band'? GROW UP! Also your comments on e-bay also show your true nature...shame!

Oh Mark, you sound so bitter. Has beens? No my dear friend U2 still sell millions of records and can still pack stadiums. Perhaps to you they are crap. That's fair enough... hey I've a great idea, don't buy their records! Also don't make any contributions to Live 8. But please don't imagine that because you think they're crap that therefore they're crap. Gosh what an ego!
*mairtin  27-Jun-2005 00:48

What a load of nonsense you say. Ebay are right. it is there site and they can do as they see fit... Oh and Bob Geldof is not Sir Bob, he's Irish 100 per cent!
*mairtin  26-Jun-2005 02:21

Having the misfortune to live on the Edgware Road, I will be making every effort to escape the sound of Bono and his chums dishing out their tired old stadium rock! I'm sick of pious 'stars' lecturing us about how we should do this or that with our money..how dare people like this come out with this old crap whilst they're pouncing around in sports cars and staying in 5 star hotels!!! The only way anything is going to change is if pressure is put on the despots and madmen who run these countries and whose corruption is tolerated by the West. I would welcome anythng to help these people, however having a few white, 40 plus, tired old has beens plodding out 15 minutes of crap music ain't going to change anything. Who would want to attend this farce anyway? If I was misguided enough to actually want to apply for this nonsence then I suppose I might be selfish enough to sell my ticket for £2000 on e-bay! The money might come in useful for those of us who have to live near the Park and who might want to book a holiday to avoid having to listen to this rubbish. As for Sir Bob, I actually don't mind the guy..he has probabley achieved more than I ever will, I only wish he would go into politics full time and deal with these people in serious fashion rather than hang around with the like of Bono and Sting...just pathetic'pop stars'. In fact one gets the impression that if it would help his massive ego, Bono would actually consider having himself crusified live on stage so we can all praise him! Isn't it about time we have a gripe page dedicated to the evil that is Bono?

This entire event benefits just one group of people - the artisits who are performing. The whole Live 8 thing will not change anything - it will not erase 3rd world debt. It will not erase poverty. But it will be a lovely 3 hour advert for those performing. I bet all the agents of those artists could not get on the phone to old Bob quick enough. Now we have to endure these multi-millionares (Elton John spends enough on flowers per year to feed a small village) use increase their revenue and profiles. I for one will not be watching, and I know I am not alone...

People who want to sell tickets that they have bought or if they have won, then should be able to sell, even if they do make a massive profit. Although it is perfectly legal for people to sell their tickets on ebay, it's only because ' Sir Bob Geldof ' interfered, although ' Live 8 ' is a charity concert, so I suppose he is right in a way.
*Brad Hooton - Arturia - Bolton  16-Jun-2005 19:11

I think you'll find that Sir Bob was outraged by people PROFITING out of Africa's misery, rather than by the actual act of selling the tickets.

It would be altruistic to expect people to donate at least some of the funds from the sale to an African charity. In reality, that wouldn't happen.

I think he is right to be outraged and right to try and influence Ebay sufficiently to make them drop these auctions.

They are some things that are too big in life to be ignored, and it sometimes takes an a**ey scruffy and cockey irishman to remind us. I like the way he cuts through the pooh and gets straight to the point.

Right or wrong, you have to admire the guy, and I do. I like the cut of his gyb to use a nautical expression.
