Here's my gripe, these boy bands such as Boy Zone, A1, Westlife, Backstreet Boys, Hanson etc.  Well what do these well known groups all have in common?  They are all more or less puppets that in my opinion don't have a great deal of talent and are paid to just bend over and do whatever their record company says.  They're told to shut up and sing a love song or some other soppy nonsense; usually to some mindless pop beat. Not exactly original or creative!

Boy Bands, Westlife, Boy Zone, A1, In Sync, Hanson, Backstreet Boys

All of this rubbish has been written, produced, and conceived by some fat cat producer that has been in the industry for years and 1. Doesn't listen to pop music 2. knows what kind of lyrics to put in a song to make money.

They just take the corniest thing you can say to a girl multiply the corn factor by 10 add some vomit and check it for sexual innuendo's.  After no sexual reference is found slap it to some elevator music with some well composed orchestral bit in it, then get the "boys" in the "Band" to sing at a certain tone so it is easy for the producers team to digitally boost the voices up to sound like they have a god given talent and have been singing since they were sperm.

I will hopefully one day have children and I plan to let them experience a very wide range of music because I have a theory that the reason that people by this sh*t is they don't know what music is.  I may be crazy but music should take you on a journey in a emotional or intellectual sense, some music makes a statement and voices an opinion, some are displays of lyrical excellence, and some is structured to enhance your physical state to "bring you up" and to let go and dance around the fire so to speak.  Anger is not a good emotion for music to create and that is all that Pop music seems to bring out in me.

Out of all this the main thing that upsets me is my generation ( all 20-30 year olds) has had some incredible music come through and there could be allot more of it if investors wouldn't keep backing this fast food pop music.  We are pumped with it through the radio and T.V 24/7 and when I get older future generations will look back and think what a complete waste of time that musical era was.

In the past two years Westlife broke the Beatles record for UK NO.1's and Bob the Builder was the best selling record of the year 2000...... It might be just me but that just sounds wrong.

Boy bands suck, those pathetic preps don't even count as a band and their "music" shouldn't even be classed as music. Its crap. They can't even play an instrument for crying out loud. All a boy "band" needs is one of them castrated, another one overly manly, one that gets kicked in the nads at random intervals and one that just stands there like a dumb**** trying to look pretty.
There you go, a qualified boy "band". Coughlamecough.

Funny Mr Teacher, and did you check out the incredibly poor spelling of the comment that followed yours. We do wonder what's going on in schools these days!

Well, you can certainly see the sort of educated person these "bands" appeal to judging by the spelling....

Sal, S, Miranda etc. It's a free forum to gripe about whatever you want. You disagree? Do something more constructive than blurt out teenybopper insults. The author has written a little more than a few words to describe the world as he or she sees it. Their opinion may seem ridiculous to you, but everyone is entitled to an opinion and to express it!

Boy bands all sound the same - Well, what do you suggest we do about it, call the Police?

I don't think they do at all. Scrap this gripe for it's silly and go and listen to somethin' else instead or, knit yourself a 'cardy' you'll feel much better.

What Loser Wrote This??? This Person Must Be One Of Those People Who Have Never Been Loved. If You Listen To A Lot Of The Boyband and Girlband Songs Then The Lyrics Are Meaningful And To Be Able To Understand What They Are Saying, One Must Feel What Love And Heartbreak Is....

(i Didn't Even Finish Article, Too Rubbish!)

*jen  08-Jun-2007 22:13

Must have touched a raw nerve there with some of the teenyboppers I reckon. I agree with some parts of the article about modern music. It's not limited to the boy bands though because the girl bands are just as unoriginal.

Stil, there is hope out there. The Internet is a great medium for new bands (real bands) hoping to capture an audience and what's more - they don't need the Fat Man to get them on the airwaves.

I HAVE taken music lessons since I could walk, my school is specialized FOR music, I'm a vocal major. I have been a fan of the backstreet boys since day one of their careers, if you listen to some of their first performances, when they were too poor to afford digital enhancement for their voices, there is real talent there.

Wait until you understand before you take your respect away from a musician, any musician deserves it.
