Swine Flu, and why I don't care about it

Do you care about swine flu?  I sure don't! I'm not planning on travelling to Mexico, my immune system is pretty top notch because I don't use these 'kills all bacteria' cleaners in my home, and I still will quite happily eat pork and be near pigs.

I saw someone in Boots the other day buying a face mask, telling the cashier that she was travelling to Spain.  Is it me, or are people just getting a bit paranoid around here?

Swine flu just does not scare me in the slightest...

Swine Flu just a scare? Swine flu just does not scare me in the slightest, and it shouldn't scare you either.  If everyone stopped worrying about their kids getting a bit mucky, and stopped using these 'kills 99.99% of bacteria because the cold virus is deadly' style soaps and cleansers, we'd all have much better immune systems.

Bird flu sort of fizzled out without any major consequences, we haven't had a terrorist attack for a while, and people just don't seem to care about obesity.  So let's all be scared by swine flu!  Bear in mind that in many cases it's about as deadly as regular flu, but we don't pay too much attention to that because it's not associated with an animal.

People need to grow up and stop pushing the panic button when it comes to infectious diseases.  I had a landlord who wouldn't let me have a snake because his wife reckoned her kids would get salmonella from being in the same building.  Absolutely ridiculous!

I really wish people would just shut up and get on with it.  Does anyone even remember Asiatic Flu anymore?  Hell, even MRSA doesn't get the headlines and media attention it used to.  Of course we also have C.Diff now.  These pandemics and epidemics all blow over eventually.  Show me something like Smallpox, and I'll start caring.

I don't really care what kind of flu I have but I have felt rough since last Monday and instead of getting better I seem to be feeling worse. I suppose sore throat, chills, cough, sinuses blocked so badly I am thinking of calling out Dyno Rod and feeling weak as a kitten are all part of the nature of the beast and will go eventually.

What is worrying me a little bit is that the last two days my eyes are watering like crazy, are bloodshot and I wake up with them gummed up with yellow stuff. Is this part of some virus that is going around or just me? Has anyone else had this symptom?

Well... I think I do care about it.

I had flu symptoms last week, came on around Friday and I just assumed it was a seasonal flu, although it did tick all the boxes (yes all of them) for swine flu including nausea, no problem but a bit inconvenient. Cold / flu meds make you feel better and to be honest by Monday Tuesday was left with a cough and some cold symptoms. Great, be right as rain soon enough. However, this cough's getting much worse and the feverish returned last night. Only just made it out of bed today (for some reason cough subsides when horizontal).

Partner suggested I ring doctor, spoke to GP receptionist who sounded bored and has heard it all before. They're inundated just now apparently, ask you're pharmacy for some flu capsules or paracetamol and come back when it's serious. Well I didn't much like the look of the last bit here: http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Pandemic-flu/Pages/Symptoms.aspx

Let's hope they'll see me when it's serious.

5000 people dead worldwide from swine flu, and everyone wants to wear a mask.

5 million people dead or dying from AIDS and no one wants to wear a condom.

Well I wouldn't be so worried about it either.. if the people in the street knew how to cover their mouths when they coughed or sneezed! Or just stayed at home when they were sick???
I rest my case.

It seems that there is nothing new about the swine flu. Go to youtube and tap in "1976 swine flu propaganda".

During the swine flu epidemic I thought that I would phone up to make an appointment to see the asthma nurse for my regular six month check up, to avoid getting into contact with sneezy people. I can't get through, they've been engaged all morning. Now I'm going to have to risk comming into contact with someone with the flu and get sick! why can't they have an answer machine and call you back...?

I have just seen the news and it appears the government helplines have been overwhelmed. The government says it is "surprised" by the level of concern.WAKE UP!!! people,swine-flu is nothing more than a High Level masonic inspired money-making conspiracy. If you Have the sniffles or are feeling run down with flu-type symptoms there is a 99.999% statistical probability it is a bog standard cold or flu virus

The reason people are panicking over the swine flu is because the capitalist pigs at the top of the pyramid stand to make billions from selling tamiflu and the vaccine.Novavax have already produced 600 million vaccines to be sold at twenty dollars each,They are working around the clock to produce even more. Now the same capitalist criminals who are running the swine-flu scam also own and control all of the newspapers and it is these same newspapers that are fuelling the masses panic.Go to youtube and tap in "swine-flu conspiracy"

It's here.. My friend's sister has it now and she only saw her yesterday. Reckon we'll have it by the end of the week. It's no longer a case of if you will get Swine Flu, it's a case of WHEN you will get Swine Flu

Tried to ring up NHS Direct the other night regarding what was either an allergic reaction or a chemical burn from a very expired can of deep heat. Even after pressing '2' for 'no, this isn't swine flu related', it still took me a good half hour to get through. Because of people panicking about the swine flu, and trying to get Tamiflu without seeing their GP

Mr. Hicks - Your approach sounds sensible to me.

Don't get me started on Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton. When are people going to realise that that these two politicians take major responsibility for creating the Credit Crunch? For politically correct purposes, their formidable organisation forced U.S. banks to make mortgage loans to people who were hopeless credit risks. When these people were unable to pay off their loans, the resulting financial crash was inevitable. The bankers got all the blame, while Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton were nowhere to be seen. But all of us have been paying the penalty for their misguided policies ever since.

thanks for the advice oracle2009,
I Was watching the youtube videos again last night. It appears that donald rumsfeld is a major shareholder in novavax, isn"t it funny that when foul play is in the air his name is always lurking in the background?I wonder if obama, bidden and Hilary clinton are also major shareholders in novavax?I for one will not take the vaccine.Im going to stock up on Normal, everyday medicines such as night nurse.

Mr Hicks - 19-Jul-09 08:22

Mr. Hicks - As I mentioned before, I'm a complete amateur on this subject and you shouldn't pay too much attention to my opinions. But everyone is entitled to express a view, so here goes:

There hasn't been a drug come onto the market yet which hasn't been produced and marketed to make money for the pharmaceutical companies - and this is clearly no exception. These companies are entitled to make profits, of course, but the way they go about it is often unethical at best and occasionally downright questionable. Evidence of this is their non-stop sales campaign to force doctors to prescribe their drugs, often employing full-scale bribery.

In this case, the government is clearly complicit in this process but the statements by ministers and "experts" are becoming so confused that I suspect another motivation: fear. Reassuring comments are shovelled one day, only to be contradicted the following day. So we get an announcement to the effect that the vaccine will be "available to the UK population in August", followed by the World Health Organisation statement that this was impossible as it had not been fully tested, followed by government back-tracking

For my part, I shall be asking for neither Tamiflu nor the vaccine. They've just discovered (a bit late in the day!) that Tamiflu has side effects (and in any case you can only take it effectively after you've contracted Swine Flu). And by the time they get round to giving official approval to the vaccine, the virus will probably have mutated, thus making the vaccine useless.

(could the top posters please not comment on my comment until oracle has had time to answer,Please)
Oracle2009,I wonder if you have seen the you tube videos recommended by jane burgermeister below?I have just seen them myself and they make for very compelling viewing. The most interesting ones were by alex jones and dr Leonard Horowitz. They are both convinced there is a conspiracy behind swine flu and particularly the intended vaccine.According to them the pharmaceutical giant Novavax stand to make billions from the many, many millions of vaccines to be sold at twenty dollars each. They both use phrases such as "a fraud,an exercise in global mind control"......"it"s a designer virus"....."the strain is completely different, completely new"......."the media are complicit and with the governments of the Us and Uk are hyping this.I myself am in two minds over the subject.I wonder what your opinion is?

I think though jane, that there has always been an experimental aspect to vaccination. When Edward Jenner(1749-1823)First applied the proccess in 1796 it was entirely new and experimental but it did eventually wipe out the smallpox virus.I will watch the youtube video though,It sounds Interesting.
