Strike action by selfish workers

Let me guess was this written by an illegal immigrant who is happy to work for £4.00 ph cash in hand or just a dumb ass who lets the fat cats walk all over them. Let me ask you, do you even know why the posties went on strike ???

Strikes are not the ultimate solution, nor are they the preferred one. Often there is a lot of hard negotiation before that last resort strike is decided upon. I don't agree with them, but I do agree with Matthew below.

In some cases strikes may be the only way to draw attention to conditions of work eg nurses with heavy workloads because of reduced staffing (the heavy workloads may mean working non-stop with the addition of cluttered or difficult environments and dealing with difficult and demanding members of the public, and senior staff - which whilst tolerable under normal economic climates, with a decent level of staffing, might become barely tolerable/ intolerable under harsher economic climates)...

...which people who condemn those striking may not have factored into the equation.

I have of course encountered those working like this who say 'But the job of .....is a vocation...therefore we should accept .... and .....'. Interestingly those that have said that have

a) suffered a nervous breakdown because of their own desire to do everything and be sacrificial
b) occassionally take long periods of paid sick leave, leaving other staff to cover their work

Strike is not the ultimate solution.. One must have to take the wise decision. And not only one, but the parties from both the sides must be cool enough to take the better decision to go through this panic situation. Until and unless both will not work together, the revolutionary effect doesn't come into the picture.

People don't generally strike because of their EXISTING terms and conditions / pay.
You will usually find it is due to employers proposing new T & Cs that may mean less pay for more responsibility, or failing to provide adequate pay rises in line with other employers.
Strike action does cause massive inconvenience and this is why it is used - to create a situation whereby the employer has no choice but to back down. Remember that union members lose pay and some benefits when they strike and although it seems to happen a lot, it is usually the last resort in a very long chain of consultations. You have to admit that being given more work and responsibility for less pay, or being made to work in unsatisfactory/dangerous conditions, would upset anyone - the difference is do you sit and take all your employer's crap or do you join the union and exercise some people power?

I agree completely. If they're so unhappy with their pay why don't they quit their job and let someone else who would appreciate it have it.

Strikes are selfish. I am unemployed, and I'd work for a measly 3 GBP an hour delivering post to peoples doors. I would NEVER strike because I have respect for OTHER people, even if I don' get payed much.

The truth is, these people going on strike are egotistical and self-centered individuals who have superiority issues. In fact, they contain a large portion of narcissism. I asked my psychologist about the strikes and she was the one who mentioned narcissistic traits on such individuals who are willing to make others suffer in order to feed their egotistical self. I guess she's right.

These people shouldn't be working in jobs that other people rely on them to fulfill their jobs. If they are so selfish, they should not work in a job that involves a lot of "people". For example, you wouldn't put a really shy person who can't even talk as a police officer, would you? Different situation, sure, but still....not equipped for social work, and post is and always will be a service that involves a social network.

Well Leedsfella, you have started me off on binmen, my thoughts on it are, that most of the wasterers in the council offices who are cutting there wages couldn't do this job at all, on their feet all day in all weathers, I suppose that sitting in front of a computer and telephone makes them think that they are superior beings and that all dustmen are complete thicko's, and that they can pay them peanuts,
I bet that a good percentage of dustmen put in an office would soon pick up the ropes, but put an average council office wasterer on the bins and he wouldnt last a fortnight.

We need a national strike! stop moaning you morons! we the british public are being raped by the banksters and the parasitic scum we refer to as MP's. wake up before its to late you fools. Here in leeds we are in week three of the bin men strike and I hope they stay out till they win. Under the pretence of equal pay they are cutting mens pay by one third! who the hell can live with that kind of pay cut ? could you ? The real reason for the cuts is that Leeds city council have been paying them selfs stupid money £600,000 at the top end, also they lost money in icelandic banks and a got stung in a property deal for some land near elland road... and are now putting over 50% of our council tax straight into there pension pot.
It's time to stop the stupid narcissistic and delusional ideals we have from destroying us all. no we are not the well informed wonderful and Infallible creature we all view our selfs as. we are stupid, gullible, spineless fools. Lets face it people the worlds wealthy elite are robbing us and our children of our future and most of us are to stupid to even realise.

Well said! Now why can't the media interview strikers asking them this same questions: Why did you accept the job in the first instance if the pay was not good enough? Why are you different from all other uk workers who have no hope of an increase in wages due to the recession? What are you teaching your kids about making do with what life throws at us? What would you do if you were your employer? Try walking in other peoples shoes for a while before having a strop and making other peoples lives even harder to get on with!
