Did you make your vote count?
I wish to gripe about the individuals who threw eggs at the BNP leader, during a press conference following the their successful election to 2 European parliamentary seats.
Now first let me say that I neither vote BNP nor support them in any way, shape or form. Nor do I agree with their openly racist policies. But the fact is we, the electorate, as a whole, are responsible for their electoral success. The people throwing eggs, should in fact be throwing them at themselves, because it is we, the public who propelled them to such heights. People in glass houses should not throw eggs.
Like it or not, the BNP won their votes fair and square. They did not cheat, they did not force anyone to vote for them.
I wonder how many of the egg-throwers actually bothered to vote for an alternative party? In my opinion, if you did not vote then you have no right to complain about the winners or losers of an election.
lazy, apathetic people who cannot be bothered...
If you did not want the British National Party to get in, you should have got off your backside and voted for someone else. Anyone else. Even a vote for the Green party would have cancelled out another persons BNP vote. A large part of the blame lies with lazy, apathetic people who cannot be bothered to put an 'X' in a box, yet somehow find the energy to whinge and protest at the outcome of an election.
In fact they could almost be considered a "single issue" party. Obsessed with purging Britain of immigrants and non-indigenous persons. The kind of people our great grandparents died to protect Britain from.
So why do they exist? Because the other parties refuse to confront the issues which the BNP openly face up to. Their approach may be deeply racist, but if Lib Dems, Tories and Labour had the balls to bring us a more hard-line immigration policy, there would be no argument for the BNP to have, and they would shrivel and die. It is the refusal to look at immigration's problems (alongside its positives) which has lead us down this dark alley in the first place. The fact is, Britain has an "open door" policy, as far as immigration is concerned, and the BNP are the only available mouthpiece for people who don't like it this way.
What about our esteemed mainstream politicians? No surprise really that voter turnout was so low. The public have all but given up on them now.
Wherever there is garbage, there are rats who emerge from the sewers to feed. The garbage, in this case, are corrupt politicians fixated on personal gain.
The sewer is Politics itself. The British National Party are merely the rats, lurking in the shadows, waiting. And we, the voters, are too damn lazy to exterminate them at the ballot box. Shame on us.

Nick Clegg the Youngest 38 David Cameron in early Forties and Osbourne again in his early 40s.
These 3 are all too Young to be running our Country, and sincerely hope that another Election can be asked for in October 2010.

What separates these to areas is only a few miles so why is one set of expenses greater than the other?
Example - Labour Dennis Skinner Bolsover District.
2007/08 total expenses £66,933. Second home expenses £11,323.
Lib Dem Paul Holmes Chesterfield.
2007/08 total expenses £148,542. Second home expenses £19,811.
I think I will be going over the receipts of Mr Holmes. Paying particular attention to his stationery receipts.
You need to wisen up. Freedom of speech but will it get you anywhere? You may believe they are 'power mad loons' but there are a lot of people think otherwise.
A government does not work in your favour and your govt. is your biggest enemy.

Well, AYP, if you sit back and allow Labour to continue ruining this country, there will be no Dog and Duck, because 30 pubs are going out of business every week. If you care about your pub then vote out the power-mad loons who are doing their best to destroy it.
And if you think they're all out of touch, what is stopping you starting up your own party to represent your views? Oh yeah, that's right. Too busy down the pub or snooker hall.
It's all very childish and do you think by voting it will resolve the current mess we are in? Of course it won't so why are you wasting your time?
I remember when Labour moved into power. Tony Blair was going to change the NHS in three years. The only solution to our world is extra-terrestrial intervention.
Will your vote stop the government allowing these fanatical lunatics, convicted murderers and rapists residing in this country? They obviously believe they come here for the good and benefit of the country.
Just the other day, this beast from the Middle East was making his way to the UK, final destination. He just thought he'd stop off in France and rape a young mum.
Voting for people that are 2000 miles out of touch with the common working citizen so go ahead and cast your vote as mine is to the wind and, take each day as it comes.

I don't believe that the majority of the electorate in most countries is mature and politically astute enough to vote for the people to govern them. On that basis I believe in qualified franchise, which like many other good things went out of the window years ago in most so-called democracies, along with political correctness and common sense.
Quite simply it doesn't make sense to have Tracey from Basildon voting for Joe Bloggs because 'he looks like a nice bloke', or Kevin from 'arlow New Town voting for Fred Smith because he promised to reduce tax on booze and ciggies.
It's clear that the current system doesn't work properly, and that what we call democracy is a farce and a charade.
MikeP, if you object to the system of voting in of politicians, can I ask why? And what sort of system would you like in place?
