Double glazing company won't stop calling us

We had some new double glazing fitted last year.  First of all we had the front windows upstairs and down fitted, then the following year we had the remaining windows out the back done.  This was quite a lot of work and it cost quite a few thousand pounds.

We're happy enough with the work that Amber Windows did (eventually), although there were a few issues.  The front window had a bit of a defect and hadn't been fitted properly, likewise the bedroom one needed some sealing replacing.  Then there was the dining room window that needed replacing due to a manufacturing problem.  There were scratches on it.  When you buy double glazing you don't expect it to come with blemishes.

Anyway, as I said the workmanship from double glazing fitters wasn't in question, and neither was the product itself once these problems were resolved.  Double glazed windows The issue though, is nuisance phone calls I've had to put up with.  We've been receiving these calls from Amber Windows since just after they replaced all our double glazing.  It's almost as if there's a note on our file that says 'Call this guy up once a week' because so far I've had two calls this month already!  Every time someone calls I go through the same speech.  "No we're not interested in getting any more work done", and "yes, we're happy with the windows that you fitted last time".  It's getting beyond the joke now though.  I'm fed up with it.

The first time they rang us up last year I had to endure the whole "As you've spent so much with us already, you're entitled to a significant discount... blah blah blah".  Anyway, to cut a long story short, I went round the houses with this guy for a few days and as it turns out there's not a significant enough discount so I asked them not to call us back and thought that would be the end of it.  Apparently not though, because we've received more than a dozen calls since.

This is getting tiresome and I'm fed up repeating myself and a 'note being made not to call us'.  They're just not listening, so if someone from the company reads this - please, don't call me any more!

Amber windows are really beginning to p*ss me off today. They've already been told to stop calling and yet they rung me up again today. To make it worse, an hour after I put the phone down one of their people knocked at the door. He looked puzzled when I was curt and shut the door on him.

AMBER - Leave us alone!!!!!

Well, If you sit under a bulls ass, there is a slight chance you might get shat on :-S... You're whats known in the trade as a 'punter' ... i.e. you probably happily paid the company more than you could have, for work that they didnt actually earn ... thats why they keep comming back ...

I used to do this for a job, with zenith windows . Most of the numbers including x directory were supplied from banks and credit card companies. we used to go throught the oxfordshire phone book a - z every six weeks using sheets prepared including x directory numbers, all pre vetted as ccj free. shouting at the canvasser usually just increases the problem as the caller is unable to delete numbers from their call sheets..

Amber Windows are beginning to seriously pi$$ me off now. That's twice they've called now within 24 hours, both times I've said, not interest, windows have been done thank you and don't call us again. Why won't they get the message?

Why are you letting them obligate you into listening? You've made yourself clear, when you hear their voice, hang up the phone on them. Don't let them waste any more of your time...

Beware of double glazing companies in Glasgow. We bought double glazing from this company promising 10 year manufacturing guarantee. One of the window panels popped and condensation built up inside after only 3 years. Expecting it to be fixed I was informed the guarantee was only on the PVC part of the window and the glass was only covered for 1 year. So buyer beware of Guarantee promises.

I read all the advertisments etc saying the new Composite coloured front doors are a great replacement for wooden doors as they won't crack. However I had a new one fitted and guess what its cracked at numerous points on the door. The manufacturer has a 10 year warranty on the door - but it isn't covered by that as it only covers it not operating as a door anymore. The FENSA double glazing organisation who the installers were members of can't help either - they don't have any power to do anything they are just there to reassure the public with a logo and worthless ten year guarantees.

you need to speak to ofcom.

I had a problem with a company ringing my fax line with a voice call and upsetting my fax machine so I rang the company back and asked them to take my number off their list. I got 2 more calls so I told anymore calls to my fax machine I would charge them £50 per call. They rang again so I phoned them back and asked who I need to send an invoice to for what for they asked you keep ring my fax and I now charge after giving them 3 faxes for free. They never did call back after that

Excellent!

We're on TPS and we've bought windows with them, hence they think they've got the right to ring us up every week presumably. No contact for a week now so all is well... so far!

Join the Telephone Preference Service - they're on-line and free. Any company that cold calls you 28 days after that will be subject to penalties.

The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is the central opt out register on which you can record your preference not to receive unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls to your home or mobile telephone numbers. It is a legal requirement that all organisations (including charities, voluntary organisations and political parties) do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS unless they have your consent to do so.

Make sure you always tick the box on any forms that asks if a Company can call you, to say "no" - otherwise you have given permission.

If anyone now calls me - which is very seldom, I ask for their name and the Company name and then ask them if they know that I am on the TPS. This sometimes results in written apologies from those companies - and blessed peace on the phone.

It doesn't stop those annoying automated sales calls from abroad, though! Only the UK.

Hope this helps.

I feel understand where the person that wrote this is coming from around ten years ago my Mother who was getting on in years used to be plauged by double glazing companies ringing her up all the time. She asked them to stop but as in the case above that request was just ignored. So she told them that she lived in a high rise council flat - which was true. Still made not one jot of difference for some reason they still kept ringing.

One day I went to visit her and as I walked passed the phone it started to ring. She asked me to answer it as it was driving up up the wall.

So I answered and sure enough it was double glazing again! So I decided to let them have their way and the woman on the other end chatted away for what seamed to take forever telling how wonderful and affordable these windows were and I could even get a big discount too.

Oh this sounded fantastic I said and was really interested in having one of there new windows in every room as I am sure they would look nice and help keep the room warm. I said cost would be no object, I only wanted the best. For some reason she sounded quite pleased :) But the pleasure in her voice did not appear to last long once I said that that the company should send the bill to the local council as this was the council property and my mother was just a tennant!

For some strange reason they never did come to put those windows in, I can't imagine why can you?

Gainsborough lad - duh.. I should have thought of that one. Actually, I've done the yarn spinning thing before with cold callers but didn't think to do it with these guys since we've actually used them. I like the windows on the floor thing and I'm definitely going to use that the next time the ring up!! Transcript will be posted of course ;-)

With junk mail you just put it back in the prepaid envelope provided, along with any junk mail which didnt come with one and it is job done, with these phone calls you have to put your brain into gear very fast, space kitchens phoned me once, and I put on an interested voice whilst thinking of a long winded story about my kitchen, which I gave them, then they asked me where I lived, and I then dropped the punchline that I lived in space.
A similer story with a phone company that phoned me up offering cheap international calls, I kept them talking for ages, and finaly told them I lived in Antartica at an ice reserch center, she went off to speak with her supervisor, came back, asked me again, where I lived, and I repeated myself to her, this went on for a while, and then they gave up on me.
Next time the window company phones you, sound excited to hear from them, waffle on for ages and ages, and then tell them you would like some windows fitting in the floor to watch the worms, these companys are making us look stupid by phoning us up, so I can only sugest we talk stupid back to them and make them look stupid.
Now you all know the formula, the best returned windups can be posted here in the coming months.

Hello! Want to buy some more windows? You haven't got enough glazing yet. Have you doubled-glazed your eyes yet? Have you doubled-glazed the greenhouse at the back yet? Why haven't you got a conservatory? And why not two roof-lights into the the bargain? We can see through your whole account: money money money! All for us! And one for all!

Contact your local council and ask to be put in touch with the data protection manager.
If you have already asked to be taken off their calling lists and they haven't done it, the data protection officer will contact them on your behalf.
Hope it helps =)
