TV on-screen logos are annoying

I want to gripe about something which is utterly ruining my enjoyment of television programs.  God knows, there's few enough shows worth watching, but those precious broadcasts worthy of my time are forever blighted by one of the diseases of 21st century broadcasting: On-screen logos.

Displayed constantly (except of course during adverts) in the top left corner of the screen, once you're aware of them, your eye is constantly drawn to them, or at the very least distracted from the program content.  If you try, you can almost ignore them, but once you become aware of them, on-screen logos can quickly irritate to almost psychotic levels, as you try harder and harder to ignore them, you become more aware that you should not have to ignore them, because they don't need to be there!

Some channels are worse than others.  BBC HD, at least, has the decency to make their logo very transparent - which is still not as good as dropping it altogether.  Sky (and in particular Sky HD) is the worst culprit.  Their logo is very prominent and rather spoils their flagship shows.

BBC1, BBC2, ITV and Channel 4 don't feel the need to spoil their broadcasts in this way, so why do the other channels do it?

But it gets worse: Sky One waits until about 1 minute before the end of a program, before spoiling it even more.  The tense cliffhanger of last week's "LOST" was shattered by the words "NEXT: Ross Kemp In Afghanistan" appearing in a large blue strip next to an already distracting logo, right at the crucial moment.

Changing the channel with a TV remote

WHY must they do this?  Do they think we're stupid, or incapable of looking at our TV guides?  A single button press on our remote tells us not only what channel we're watching, but also what's on next.  There really is no need to display this over the top of our favourite TV shows.

I pay a lot of money for the channels I'm watching, I know what they're called thank you very much, I don't need a constant reminder in my face.  I paid for a system where I can press a button to see the channel name, and also what's coming up next.

Perhaps if enough of us write to channels like Sky and complain, they might actually listen.  But I doubt it.

One of the common things to happen now especially on Sky 1 is advertising as part of the logos or next to the logo; it will advertise a new program or season of programs such as Lost; I do find these distracting more than the logos.

They are going to shove more and more mini video adverts at the bottom of the screen now, you are watching a film and there it is....win a car now go to so and such dot com.....then its tiny video of a car in the corner, if you touch the remote at all it takes you to an advert page then they start phoning you and or emailing you to try to sell you things you dont want....just like the pop ups and websites that redeirect you when you click no or close, or the ones that redirect you af ter a minute or so when you are trying to read a news page or something...

Is it me or are these logos insidiously gravitating towards the centre of the screen? Annoying as they are they used to be confined to the top left hand corner

I love watching Fashion tv but already twice this year I've had to put up with an HD advert covering the bottom of the screen, it's very annoying and last time it was there constantly for about 2wks.

When they took it off I thought that was the end of it but for the last wk it's appeared again, don't know why they do it or for how long they will have it this time but I wish they would stop.

I feel like I'm being punished cause I can't afford HD. Please stop!

Most of the viewing public are too brain dead to remember what channel they are watching for more than 3 seconds

Just press "Back" on the Sky remote, or on freeview, it's normally the green "fastext" button (of the Red, Green, Yellow, Blue buttons)

I find logos, stupid banners the next programme preview (before the end of the existing one) very annoying and indeed insulting. Advertisers don't put up with it so why should we! There must be thousands if not millions of us out here who surely can influence the offending TV channels.

You realise you could just press "Back" (or whatever it may be called on your remote) to make the on-screen logo go away (it will reappear after every ad break so just press "Back" again).

If there were no logos, how would you know what channel your watching?

As mentioned above, I also hate those annoying TV onscreen logos. I hate them so much that I often turn TV off. They are unneccecary, I pay good money to watch my favorite programs, I wish virgin media would compleyely remove them.

Don't talk rubbish get rid of Sky TV

£678 per year to watch HD Channels is madness.

They advertise a £49 sky box and you all think it's Sale of the Century.

What they don't tell you is that it costs a minimum of £252 per year £540 with the movies and £678 per year to watch HD.

Get rid of it and save yourself some money.
Trust me you can do it!

Owl, methinks you've hit the nail on the head with "TV is controlling you", however I like to think the goldfish-brained viewers are a small minority.
