I'm sick and tired of getting stuck behind a slow lorry in the morning on the way to work, and those Tesco delivery trucks are the worst!  Actually its not so much the lorry that is the problem, rather the queue of cars poking their nose out to have a look every five minutes only to realise that they can't do anything about it.
Stuck behind a lorry I know some car drivers get fed up because they can't get past slow moving traffic particularly lorries and tractors.  As you might have guessed, I ride a motorbike to work and for the most part would probably just shoot straight past the lorry as they go so slow and we can accelerate quickly.  Unfortunately it isn't that easy when there is a long queue of cars behind them.  It kind of reminds me of big metal snake with the lorry being the head and the cars making up the body and tail.  What a nightmare, and I'm sure its no picnic for the people trapped behind their cars.  It would be really nice if a few more of them kept an eye out behind and moved over though.

I had this crazy idea the other day about banning all the HGV and farm traffic from the road during peak hours, say between eight and ten in the morning and then four to six in the evening.  Okay it probably wouldn't be very popular with the truckers or the haulage companies, but just imagine how much easier it would be to get to work in the morning.  All we'd need to do then is remove the school run mum and hey presto! - congestion problem solved.

No seriously, probably not an ideal solution but with the rising cost of fuel, more cars and more toll roads it will be interesting to see just how things are going be in the future.  I doubt that there is anything that can really be done about growing congestion problems not just in the cities but on the suburban and country roads as well.  At the end of the day people need to get to work and the shops need to be stocked with goods.  We'll just have to live with the snakes in the morning!

All lorrys should be made by law to only drive in inside lane they are poor drivers they never look or signal they just pull out. Most are old men who should be made to take test again. And as for foreign ones. WELL they are even worse.

All milk floats and JCBs should be banned from the roads during the morning rush hour from 6am onwards till 10am. Cyclists should be banned altogether from roads which are 50 mph, like the North CIrcular Road

As a lorry driver and a biker I do appreciate your problem.
Its silly in this day and age that we are restricted to 40 mph and 56 on duel and motor ways.
About the railway thing, my work does a lot of work for asda, the stuff comes up on train in containers, the containers get lifted onto trailers and we delivered them, this is very common now in all sectors of haulage but sadly every shop or company, does not have a rail siding on it, as for banning us at peak times, bad enough that we have to by law have set breaks, limited to driving 9 hours a day.

Scenario...I load a product in Aberdeen to be in Cambridge next morning, I can drive to carlise (4.5 hours) Must have a 45 min break, drive another 4.5 which gets me to about peterborough, have to have a 9 hour break then can drive the rest of the journey. All at 56 or 40 mph. I know car drivers see us as a big pest, but take a look around everything is delivered by road, even the car that your sitting in. I work an average of 70 hours a week, driving around 45 hours

message for leo if you could not get past a lorry within 50 minutes then you should not be on the road at all even girls can get passed in that time and a red lorry too maybe they are more tricky than lets say blue or maybe green ones get a life pal think of some real issues to moan about those darn red lorries.

no point you going to work as the lorry delivering the shelf for you to stack beans on has not turned up because it was banned from the roads between 8 and 10

I've been a professional driver for the 20 years since I passed my car test and just about to take my LGV test at last. A daunting prospect I can assure all car drivers.

The one point that everyone seems to be missing here is that if we ALL slowed down a bit, paid more attention and were a little more coureous then we'd all get where we're going a lot faster.

Truckers, how many times have you been cut up by an impatient car or van driver desperate to get past you, only to catch them up at the next roundabout or traffic junction?

90% of traffic jams are not caused by slow vehicles but by a small number of faster cars bunching up behind each other, stopping when there is no need to. The result is a jam with no actual cause. Just a thought.

Last Tuesday I was stuck behind a red lorry on a 'B' road for 50 mins and I must write it was soul crushing.

Can't you give us all a break and go and drive your lorry in and around Baghdad for a change?

The goverment needs to change our road speed limits as its no fun for us doing 40mph in a 60 mph road either and the grief we get from car drivers pulling out in front of us and cutting us up doesnt help much either ,remember car drivers we need a longer distance to brake !!!!
