One thing I find completely disgusting is other men who don't wash their hands when they go to the toilet. I see it all the time in pubs and toilets at motorway service stations etc. There are plenty of signs there that say "Now wash your hands please" and a whole row of unoccupied sinks with soap and hot running water, so what is the excuse for not taking a moment to do this simple task? I can only assume that either pure laziness or lack of knowledge in the area of basic hygiene is the answer and it's a pretty widespread problem.

By the way, please don't tell me that it's clean because it definitely isn't Whilst urine may be a sterile liquid, certain parts of the anatomy that have loitered around in the darkness in ones boxers probably aren't immaculately clean - even if you are a modern man who knows that a fresh pair every day is a pretty good idea. This is especially true in the summer where with the best will in the world, things will still get a bit clammy.

I've also noticed that as I stand there in a public lavatory diligently scrubbing my hands that I'll sometimes get some curious looks and even the odd amused stare from others as they finish their business and leave the room without taking the time to do the same. It's almost as if I'm the one behaving abnormally by daring to wash my hands! Now look, I'm simply washing my hands, this doesn't mean that I swing for the other side you cretin!

Leaving aside the germs and the health issues just take a moment to consider the guys around you in a pub. For example, the next time you area about to shake hands with someone, just ask yourself does he look like the kind of person with good personal hygiene. Did he wash those hands after he wiped his @rse with them. Oh yes, I've seen people do that too. Go into the trap to have a number two then just walk straight out the toilet.

Now wash your hands, good advice for men

Absolutely disgusting!

Why do some people not flush the toilet when they've finished? Is it really so much effort to pull the chain or the handle or whatever, and leave the toilet in the state you'd wish to find it?

On an almost weekly basis I go to use the office loo and find myself gagging at the unwelcome surprise waiting for me in the toilet bowl. Why should I flush somebody Else's waste for them? Why can't they do it themselves?

At home, the wife has a stubborn habit of not flushing after having a wee. I find this equally disgusting and constantly tell her how I feel about it, but it makes no difference.

How difficult is it to understand? I mean, really? Just flush the damn toilet!

I cannot tolerate people who don't bother flushing their waste after using public or communal toilets. It is absolutely revolting and inexcusable, not to mention unhygienic and anti social. Why leave your faeces and/or urine for somebody else to find? What makes you think the next person will enjoy seeing it and flushing it for you?

When you use a toilet, do everyone else a favour, be polite, and Flush before you Flee.

I saw this sign in the women's toilets in the US, "Wash it off now, or eat it later."

Too right! & while wer`e on the subject of hygiene, what about those disgusting people who leave public loos without even bothering to flush, & people who mess all over the seats. I wouldn`t use these places if I didn`t have to, so it`s bad enough having to go in there, without having to clean up after the last person in there. animals are cleaner than that.

This gripe was in fact written by a man who washes his hands - me! I'm also aware that there are a number of women, perhaps not so many, who also can't be bothered to wash their hands. Maybe I should have named the gripe "People who don't wash their hands".

Andy : There is an argument against over-sanitation and obsessive washing and disinfection, but your view is just immature, ignorant, anti-social, stupid, and dirty. It really is that simple. You may wish to be filthy and unhygienic but you have no right to spread your germs and filth to others.

I don't have the time to wash my hands, but I don't think that it matters. germs don't do anything! It's a waste of time. It bugs me when people tell me, "Wash your hands!" I don`t wash my hands and I don't care.

Never mind men not washing their hands ,women are just as guilty, it makes my blood boil they would be the first to mention if a nurse or doctor did not wash their hands before examining them , do they not realise that they have picked up other peoples germs up in the process ! this is why we cannot eradicate illlness from society.

The expert's reckon that if you work in a large building, you "touch" ten of these "things" indirectly every day, door handles, telephones, keyboards and mouses ect.

I always wash my hand's after a visit to the lav.

*biffo  16-Nov-2009 21:06

I suppose men don't tend to wash their hands because it is too polite and ladylike.
