Well the script-writer of Life in Britain, that dreadful soap-opera, has decided to write down or out the current cast, economically to begin with, and truly and wholly later on.  This show is surely in its last episodes.

Face it, you are all third-rate as citizens, and will be treated as such.  What was supposed to be a true meritocracy has turned into a State run by Mephistopheles.  All you Dr Fausti out there who sold your souls to the Devil [Mrs Thatcher] 24 years ago on the promises of monetarism, that Devil has now come to collect his/her own.

Consider yourself lucky to have a job...

Consider yourself lucky to have a job to commute to, even with rail journeys at £1200 per year?  Well I don't.  My job has been rubbed out, downgraded, and dumbed-down.  I no longer enjoy working anymore anyway.  The interests I had at the start have all since been removed by remote, accountant managers and masters who seek only ridiculously measured and meaningless goals, and who have turned the job into a mental, tortuous, grueling nothing.

A fish market...

Governments and corporations are now like corrupt religions.  We are all awaiting a dissolution of the Monastery.  Who will rid us of these troublesome priests?  Off with their heads: they are all traitors to the cause.

In 50 years from now the Oligarch of Hong Kong will buy up this land lock-stock and barrel to use as a waste dump for toxic materials.  The rest of Europe will put up an ecological barrier to separate their green and pleasant lands from this barren, sterile wilderness.

The Government would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to citizens by the Credit Crunch. We are sorry if you have lost your home, job, pension, livelihood, all your wealth, any hope you had for your future, and your children's futures. We are sorry if crime increases and it becomes unsafe to walk the dangerous streets of our Nation. We are NOT working to put matters right; that's impossible. We are NOT going to punish those responsible for this disaster Tighten your belts, and hold your breath.

Welcome to soup kitchen Britain. Just watch the pound sterling devalue to nothing. Watch it collapse completely. Buy a pram to carry the worthless notes to the supermarket, start counting the zeroes on the notes. The currency has fallen far further than ever before, and faster.

The pound in your pocket is worthless.

We are now an African economy.

And why are we bailing out the banks? All bank managers above £100.000 pa should lose their jobs and have their property sequestered to help pay for the crisis. Banks who loaned monies to the subprime should bear the losses outright.

I see only one solution to this problem with this ever increasing dictating government, and that is to bring the power back to the people! Any controversial issues should be put to the public vote, in this day and age I cant see any reason why this cant be achievd.
When Tony Blair was in charge I listened to a comment he made, he said you put me in power to run this country and I will run it the way I see fit. Gordan Brown recently stated that he will do what ever it takes. What they were really saying is, I will do what ever I want, if the public dont like it tuff! Sadly they seem to have missed the point, they were put in power to run the country on behalf of the people for the people, not for themselves. Why dont we just reinstate the monarchy? ( I cant see the difference)
To expand further, every major issue should be put to the public vote, the main party leaders should have to sell the reasons for and against on public broadcast, and the public should vote on who has the best argument. The leaders should then go off as one united party and make it happen. They can keep their spin for international politics, justifying our nations decision(not thier own) to the rest of the world. In this way the under educated or those who dont generally vote would have more say and more interest.

This royalist nation of ours is a myth created by myself. It has no reality. I caused the original Kings of England to be crowned. They gained their kingdoms through my efforts. I raised King Arthur to be the illusion he is. Ever since I did this you have all been completely duped. I magicked the whole institution.

Other nations dispensed with their kings. We did this once but we relented. It took France three goes to remove its king altogether. Having a monarchy is like being addicted to drugs. It takes a long time and effort to come down off them.

Monarchy is nothing but a personality cult. Do not be otherwise persuaded.

I feel I used to live in a country which played in, won, and was top of the Premier League of nations. Now I feel we are struggling at the bottom of the fourth division, awaiting relegation to total obscurity.

There is only one salvation possible from all this - Self Sufficiency. Close our frontiers totally to imports of labour, populations, goods and services.

Dispense with corrupt government and business completely.

Put the traitors on trial.

I am a WASP = White Anglo-Saxon Pauper. My work was sold to the Far-East at a knock down rate. My boss lives on 100 foot yatch registered in that tax-haven, the Cayman Islands, and he cruises the Med.

I certainly agree with the sentiment of the posting, although would question some of the detail. Life in Britain certainly has lost its shine over the past few decades, and this Labour government have been particularly good at leading us into a kind of society that is 'faceless', 'remote', full of targets that become the be all and end all. The education system is producing a nation of 'test takers' rather than thinkers. The public transport system is ridiculously expensive and often a nightmare to use. The population continues to rise as unfettered immigration is imposed upon us, and the burden on the services becomes unmanageable. The gap between the rich and poor continues to widen, and those responsible for the financial disasters by and large are not punished, indeed they are often rewarded with fat 'goodbye' cheques. Democracy is essentially broken, both at the local and national level. So-called 'reform' has been very superficial. Our minds have been 'dumbed down' considerably and as a nation we increasingly are fascinated by the empty lives of pop and movie stars, and those parasites who occupy Buckingham Palace. The faceless beaurocrats in Brussels continue to gather more and more power, and this disgusting government denies us the opportunity to say "NO"! Gordon Brown provides no leadership in the face of the threat of global warming and essentially the government does nothing. The best advice I can give any person in this country can be summed up in just one word: Emigrate!

This has got to be one of the best and most contentious postings I have seen on the weekly gripe!

You have gathered the issues thet Joe public face, elegantly, and in a nutshell!

Just who is in charge of the asylum?

The "bean counters" seem to gain greater say and power over all our lives.

Put me down for an accountancy course..... I want to join the elite.

Out of the window goes common sense, and into view, everything comes down to cost, and return.

It fills all our lives from work, with stastitical guff, to home life with a price to pay (with NICE nhs drugs etc etc) on your chance of survival.

Change may come........but how.......... as all our representatives seem to have their snouts firmly pressed into the political cash troughs!

Viva la revolution........... let's see em' eat cake then!
