Free WiFi, well it sounds too good to be true doesn't it? Maybe that's because sometimes it is and I really dislike having to write this gripe because I'm actually a very big fan of Wetherspoon pubs in general. I've always managed to have one on my doorstep wherever I moved to and their beer festivals are second to none. However this gripe isn't about beer or food, it's about that somewhat elusive free WiFi they offer.
Thirty minutes of free WiFi via The Cloud network whenever you purchase food or a drink is the deal and what an excellent idea it is too. Who could resist finishing off a bit of work and checking your email whilst enjoying a nice pint of real ale so hats off to the pub chain for doing this. The only problem is that it isn't always easy to get hold of the little blue free WiFi cards. In fact the expression "rocking horse poo" springs to mind.
Some staff in pubs haven't even heard of WiFi let alone free WiFi at the pub they work in! Many times whilst asking bar staff about them I have been met with blank stares and the usual 'I'll have to go and ask the manager about that..' For goodness sake someone please send a memo round get the pub managers to bring their staff up to speed. There's even a sign on the door that says "Free WiFi"
