Dog poop on our doorstep

We live in a lovely "no through" road with small free car park opposite which is great for dog walkers.  By the way, we also have two dogs and we carry plastic bags to pick poop, so I'm not having a go at dog owners here.  There's a dog bin right by the entrance to the car park, although it can get a bit smelly in the summer, when it "cooks"; it's far enough away from the houses to not be a nuisance!

Why then, when winter comes and the nights draw in, does one person allow their dog to poop right outside our house?  We know it is one person because it's is always the same colour and we think that they live locally.

Sometimes it is so bad that it is scattered over 100 metres, which presumably means this poor animal is being dragged whilst whilst going (Anyone who has a dog will know that they do tend to stop and "strain" and that it is quite noticeable!)

We put a board up outside the house last winter asking people to pick up their mess and I even got some bags from the dog warden to hang from the gate post.  Many of the other dog owners around were quite sympathetic to our plight, with one exception.  This one person ignored all the signs and continued to allow his or her dog to go outside our house! Why can't they just pick it up?

Dog litter sign The dog warden is right there with us and has asked when we think it is happening.  Of course we have no idea and I don't want to manually check how warm the Richard the third is to establish a "time of deposit".

By the way, the local Parish Mag published a letter from a neighbour about the situation and the next month some numpty said "If that's all you have to complain about then pick it up yourself!"  Funny how nothing was mentioned when I wrote in to ask where they lived so I could transfer the poo to their house!!

We've talked about water-soluble luminous spray paint to highlight the problem.
We've talked about making tiny flags to stick into the mess.
We've talked about chalking BIG CIRCLES around the them.

I am now opening up the floor for your suggestions! (rubbing my hands together as I know this will no doubt be fun!)

In my street there is a local police station. Walk past it and you will always find numerous piles of dog poop on the pavement. Even the police seem incapable of catching the culprits.

"If you have someone in your street whose dog is pooping everywhere every day, then post it back through their letter box in the middle of the night, bet they soon start to clean it up."

Expect to see GL soon on Youtube labelled the "Phantom Poo Poster"

All dogs are supposed to be on leads on this beach !
My sign sniper killing dogs not on leads seems to have halped a little but I still have them firmly in my sights just let them off the lead on the beach cos my triger finger is twitchin buddy

Hi Pugs! Boy do I empathise with you! It's terrible the disrespect SOME dog owners show to other human-beings. Another thing (a little off topic) that disgusts me is how some dog owners when walking toward you with their dog, fail to "reel the dog in" just a bit - so that if said dog is inclined to jump up on you, he CAN! And the dog owner NEVER apologises or even acts like it matters after one's clothing is marked with mud or paw prints. The next time this happens to me, I am going to scream as loud as I can: "CAN'T YOU CONTROL YOUR $%&*$%£ DOG!!!!!!?????????" and hope it makes an impression.
I hope you get the poop situation fixed. You ought to rub the owner's nose in it if you find out who it is. ;o))

I walk the streets of my town daily and it is still common for dog owners to allow their dogs to foul the paths and in some areas it has got worse despite the laws that are in place.

I have seen incidents where there is dog dirt not even a 100 yards away from a bin that has been designed for such a purpose; kids regularly use path and nearby fields to play and walk to school. Not only is this act of letting a dog foul paths inconsiderate and disgusting, it is dam right dangerous as doggy dirt can cause health problems in children, including blindness.

So dog owners, please be considerate.

Or plant some 'coleus canina' in the garden. Also known as 'the pee-off plant'. Just wish there was a 'sod off stupid' plant for the dog's owner...

Pugs - just had a thought. One way round it might be to make the area unattractive to use as a toilet. Dogs usually 'go' where other dogs have been but there might be a way to put them off. Pouring vinegar over the ground helps, as does spinkling pepper. There's also a product called 'renardine oil' which dogs hate the small of.

Hope it helps!

Went into town yesterday and noticed 5 piles of dog mess, of varying age and colour. It's just digusting - I hate having to always keep my eyes on the pavement and it's tricky when there are lots of people around and you're trying to jump over it.

The worst 'pile' was on the pier, by the sea. Can't believe some selfish individual just left all that for some little kid to step in. It's hard to get off wooden boards as well.

Would CCTV help? Or do these selfish people come out at night when they think they won't get caught? Sick of it.

any dog owner not cleaning up after their dog should have the dog taken from them and be banned from ever owning a dog again, this extreme legilation should clean up the pavements a bit and prevent diseases that they dont give a s**t about. dirty filthy cretins that they are.

Nikki, god knows how you believe it to only be the "male" of the human species that urinates in an alley.

I've seen my fair share of drunk "female" humans squatting behind taxis, parked cars, walls and alleys.

What a stupid bye law that stops you putting dog poo in dog bins if your dog has done it in your own garden - I refuse to abide by the law

I agree anonymous. I am a huge dog lover, but I absolutely hate stepping in the stuff. Worse still is when we are biking along the canals. you cannot see the dog turds in the long grass, and when you bike over them your tyres become embedded with dog poo which you have to blast out with a hose, invariably spraying yourself with dog-pooey water. Lovely ... not.

I take my dog with me on bike rides, and watch him like a hawk. Whenever he does a poo, I stop and pick it up with the bags I carry tied to my bike handles. People are truly disgusting, I quite agree.

Dog mess is disgusting, I am not a dog owner but if I was I would clean up after it. I went out for a country walk with my children today and every few feet there it was dog s##t! I expect horse and cow mess but not that! Why can these people get away with leaving dog mess for others to step in?

Sorry to put a fly into the ointment, but it also depends on the type of food you feed your dog. Our dog is fed on the BARF diet, which stands for Bones and Raw Food, or to give it the more scientific title, Biologically Appropriate Raw Feeding. Poos produced by dogs on raw food are much smaller and firmer than dogs fed on kibble and commercial dog food. Black poos will indicate there's a lot of liver having been fed. However, fox poo is indeed black or very dark brown, but it does tend to be smaller than a dog's, so if its small and black, the likelihood is it's fox ! However, it could be a raw fed very small dog !!

Its sounds like its most likely fox poo. If its ver dark in colour a fairly small. They often leave more of a trail. I know because I walk dogs fora living and many of them enjoy rolling in it. (It stinks, of well poo!) hope this helps.

dog=light/dark brown sometimes sloppy
this isnt exactly the best thing to talk about !

"Maybe we should all just do the same and piss on walls/cars and houses there must be some law to stop this!"

Good grief, Anonymous, are you living in the halcyon, sun-kissed-ginger-beer-and-chirpy-railway portered, Enid Blyton world of the 1950s??? These days, people do already "do the same" - pissing EVERYWHERE, in broad daylight, in full view of the public, without any dignity or consideration. There's certainly a law, unspecific and rarely imposed, whereby offenders can be prosecuted under public order legislation, and that on-the-spot fines of £80 can be served under the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001. Police could even use an 1847 law against indecent exposure.
I do realise, of course, that you are suggesting legislation should be imposed against canine urination (despite poor punctuation and incorrect syntax structure). However, human urination in public is just the tip of a very large antisocial iceberg: may I suggest your ire would be better aimed in this general direction? And let my dog do what he naturally has to do.
