One thing that really gets up my nose is inhaling other peoples' stale cigarette smoke against my will.  It's about time to ban smoking in public places in this country and stamp smoking out once and for all.  You know it makes sense!

Ban smoking - "I came home smelling like a dirty ashtray..."

There is nothing worse than coming home from a bar or club after an evening out and finding that your clothes smell disgusting because they have been saturated with stench of smoke.  I'm not the only one who is fed up of this, and I'm not  some born again non-smoker, I just wish that I had a choice whether or not I came home smelling like a dirty ashtray.

Another thing that I really hate is walking down the street behind someone smoking a cigarette.  Every time they exhale out comes that cloud of stale smoke and bang, you walk straight into it and aside from crossing over to the other side of the street there is very little you can do about it.  It is not a pleasant experience and it is one I could live quite happily without.

Ban smoking in public places

I know there are a lot of people in this country that smoke and I'll be willing to bet that some that are reading this article are fed up with people who don't smoke always harping on about their 'bad habit' and telling them what to do.  The simple fact is though that smokers are affecting the health of non-smokers as well as their own. People die each year just because they have breathed other people’s smoke and that is something we really should be taking seriously.  In my opinion an outright ban on smoking in public places is the only way forward.

There seems to be a huge number of web sites on the internet dedicated to stopping smoking or with information about smoking.  Here are a few that I thought might be of interest.

The Net Doctor
This site is very interesting as it contains information on many health issues as well as smoking.  The link above takes you to a page all about smoking and how to quit and it even includes an 'addiction calculator'.  Definately a site worth checking out in my opinion.

Lung Cancer
The facts about lung cancer.  Another page from the Net Doctor site which may be of interest to those who smoke!

Women and Lung Cancer
An interesting site with some pretty dramatic statements regarding lung cancer among women.
Apparently the information is slightly out of date now though because breast cancer has just recently overtaken lung cancer.

I don't smoke and it doesn't really bother me if people do.

When I was a child, I'm 40 now, it wasn't unusual for people to smoke just about everywhere.

I even remember my teachers in secondary school smoking in the classroom, albeit near the window.

My parents never smoked, but my grandparents did and my uncles, aunties and some cousins do.

My parents never got hysterical about family smoking in the same room as me when I was a child, and I am healthy, asthma free and passive smoking cancer free.

I don't get hysterical about people smoking in our home in front of our kids either.

When smoking was banned in pubs, I thought it ripped the heart out of them. For hundreds of years, Britain's wonderful pubs have been smelly, smoky and grubby - that's what gave them character.

Now they're sterile and dull, all the fun is found on smoking balconies or outside where the smokers congregate.

I'd prefer a country where people concentrate less on telling others what they shouldn't be doing and lighten up a bit - we're all going to die - let people enjoy the bit before then !

Tired of people saying ban smoking, we can no longer smoke indoors, so we go outside in the freezing cold all winter and then as soon as there's a sunny day anti-smoking people want us to disappear! I'm a considerate smoker, I smoke away from people, If there are children about I don't smoke at all. The fact of the matter is the country needs us smokers, the tax we pay is enormous and everyone would be worse off financially if smoking was banned. I also think all the stop smoking campaigns are a waste of money and time. Every one knows it's not healthy but you can't/won't quit just because some people tell you not to and show you ugly pictures. You actually have to want to. There would be public uproar if pictures of obese people with bedsores and all were put on high calorie food packaging. I understand that being obese doesn't affect the health of other people around them but if I'm correct obesity costs the country more which smoker's taxes help to pay for.

Some busy body woman verbally harrased a male smoker for two days on the run at an openair railway station, on the second occasion she ended up on the tracks, (i'm not condoning this)

I could understand someone complaining in a cafe, train, or on a bus, but not in the open air, she should mind her own buisness, and I don't smoke, read about this in todays mail online.

Aleedsfella, I could not agree more with your comment. Everywhere you look nowadays you read the phrase " it should be banned ". When the government actually do ban something they are called fascists and the people take to the sreets and riot !

Ban smoking here, ban smoking there, ban smoking everywhere. Ban acohol, ban music, ban Film, ban freedom, ban oxygen.................. For f*cks sake people! stop helping the state to shaft us all, due to your own pathetic weak minded, pitiful, narcissistic, stuck in a media bubble and spineless nature.

Why waste all the political energy and national funds in banning smoking instead of eradicating malaria? Malaria kills far, far more than smoking ever did. We have got our health priorities wrong.

I think that smoking should stop in public places because it is not right for people to talk around the streets and find people are smoking in bars and also clubs but the mean think is that we try and stop young people and parents smoking for thier own good and for young kids like babies and other but why can't people look at the people are trying to suppoort them and why can't they see what they have in live and see who they are hurting in their lives.
PLEASE JUST SEE WHAT YOU ARE DOING TO YOURSELF!
That's my opinion about it

Smoking damages your health, you're right, so when smokers tell people to 'get a life and start smoking' I don't get it!
