Ignorant rude people with no manners

Is January the month of Misery?  My gripe is basically all miserable aggressive people who don't seem to respond to manners.  In less than a week I have had to deal with two pompous middle-class idiots who think they can win a argument by being ignorant or down right horrible.

On the first occasion My wife and I accidentally parked in someone's else's space in Sainsbury's.  We honestly didn't realise that we had but were happy to reverse out once we were aware.  We were made aware by a complete fool of a man who stormed out of his Ford Galaxy people carrier (complete with 2 children) and started telling us that we had parked in his space and that we should move straight away.  I explained that we didn't realise we had taken his space and would reverse out, with that he told me I was sarcastic and should have realised that he wanted the space.  He was starting to upset my wife so I told him to shut up, go back to his car so we could move.  He then decided to take the alpha male stance and broadened his chest in a gorilla like motion.  After facing me off he decided to get in his stress wagon and take the place.  I think what really added insult to injury was that the car space was a family one and whilst we had a 3 month old baby in the car, he had 2 able bodied children over 10 years old!

The next experience was coming home this evening and seeing a male car passenger hurl abuse at a single female driver and wave his fists at her because she had blocked his way for a minute at a junction.

An angry person The latest encounter was again this evening (which led to this posting) when I arrived home.  I discovered that a Volvo driver had parked across my gates therefore blocking access.  I looked at the driver for a few moments and he responded by waving his hands about at me.  I went indoors to say hello to my wife and baby and then decided to go out again to talk to Mr. Volvo.  When I approached his car he lowered his window and spoke to me like a piece of dirt, telling me that I was in the wrong for apparently not realising that he was just waiting to pick someone up and I should go away.

I asked him why he was being so aggressive and talking to me in this manner?  He responded that I was in the wrong and he would be gone soon.  Again talking in a stressed up rude manner.  I decided to leave thinking this incident was too close to home and why should I lower myself to his level.

What really gets me is that these people were not your standard chav or yob.  In fact they were middle class types but they obviously could not conduct a conversation without getting heated and angry.  What is it about people and cars and why do people turn into nasty rude thugs?  Is it that they are so stressed up or unhappy; or do they think that the only way to deal with people is to lose all social skills and resort to being horrible?

I'm not a wallflower at fifteen stone and 6ft tall but I'm not going to resort to threatening behaviour to win an argument.  Also is it really big and tough for men to wave their fists at lone female drivers?  Are we just becoming too stressed out as a nation and losing that Great British attribute, namely good manners?

Driver of brown metallic Landrover Discovery BK57 VKF parked across our gated driveway on Banstead High Street blocking access to residents and committing an anti-social traffic offence with your dyed platinum chav bimbo giving me the middle finger three times with a kid in the back of your car and mine, think karma. And may it hit you hard.

Well said. People are so rude, even on the internet, they're really ungrateful and impatient. They probably have a superiority complex or something. It's horrible because they can't take the insults but just dish them out like it's a blessing or something, so irritating.
What they say sort of sticks in your head, and I find it quite offensive........
I do find it entertaining when they say "Sorry I had a bad day" because it's clear that they weren't having a bad day, they were just being arrogant.
They=rude people
you=people in general

you should treat rude people the way they treat you. I know you are not supposed to descend to their level but if you back down, then the rude person will carry on being rude to other people because they get what they want. A kick in the teeth may make them think twice before acting that way in future!

Female drivers are just as likely to be abusive in my experience - and heaven help any man who says they're in the wrong.

Regarding parking over your driveway, isn't that a traffic offence anyway?

I find people from 'darn sarth' as being the most impolite in the UK. In Yorkshire, the majority of people say thank you to the bus driver after they've been given their ticket and when they alight from the bus. I rarely hear that when I visit London or the South West.

I think some of them are like this because they are jealous of what you have got, and what they haven't got, and what you can do, and what they can't do.

I try my best to ignore these types of people, but i'm finding it more difficult as time goes on. arrogant, stupid people and more women are acting this way too I find. I get worried that one of these days i'm going to lose my self control and retaliate which will then ruin my presently happy life. god help us all

Rach,

If a child runs out in front of your car and you hit her, she has a much higher chance of surviving if you are not speeding so well done in keeping your cool and not allowing yourself to be pressured into going faster than you should. Good for you.

This is a really good article and believe me, I've been through this before and my parents warned me about nasty drivers before I got my licence.

I think that drivers are nasty and rude because they are in the protection of their own vehicle. I mean if you think about it, it's not very often you see two angry people in a grocery store flipping the bird or yelling obscenities at each other because there is a very low chance of them getting away with it. With a car, you can simply zoom off and not worry about it.

I just don't react when people act like this. I ignore them. People have flipped me the bird, tailgated me, flickered their high beams at me, etc...but I continue to drive at a pace that is appropriate for the road conditions. Driving is already extremely dangerous as it is, especially since I'm under twenty five with only a few years of experience...that makes the roads even more dangerous. It's not a contest to see who gets there first and it's not a race...no one is better than anyone else if they get there first.

Just tell yourself everytime you drive "it's not my problem you're late" or "how does me speeding up faster than the limit benefit myself and others?"

When people are rude, it's because they have self esteem problems and try to bring you down with them. Just state your point and keep stating it until they act appropriately. If not, get their licence plate number and report them.

My sentiments exactly. I had a similar encounter this morning. Was very angry then, but now I have learnt to come to terms with it. I believe these rude nasty bullying people will get the karma exactly or worst then what they hurt you. Believe me in this. Just stay cool, calm, collected and give them the shrug. It is not worth your energy at all. People like these will get their retributions, very sure of it.

Actually, the boy who swore at me was not English. He was African but I don't know from which country. The other did not speak so I dont know if he was English or not.

I agree that some children are raised to have no respect for anyone these days but I also feel that the police, real ones or PCSOs, just do nothing and encourage this sort of behaviour by their indifference.

A week ago I saw a youth of about 16 or 17 (English in this case) do wheelies across our busy high street in front of the station. He mounted the pavement and nearly hit a girl, did wheelies in front of traffic to cross the road again, mounted the steps of a cafe, rode down the wheelchair ramp and then rode in circles three times around two PCSOs who had watched the whole performance. He then stopped right next to them and waited for a response.

The "officers" did everything that they possibly could to avoid their having to confront this youth. I don't think that I have ever seen people so determined not to see what was right in front of them! The youth eventually lost interest in trying to provoke them and cycled off down the pavement, scattering the rush hour commuters as he went.

Rori, this is as much as anything a symptom of how poorly children are brought up in the UK today, more like dragged up in fact. It's not all the fault of the parents though because society in general must share some of the responsibility. The politically correct, 'thou must not smack a child as a means of punishment' brigade have a lot answer for.

I was walking yesterday evening with a friend who is blind and hasa guide dog. Two youths came straight at us on the pavement at breakneck speed, nearly hitting us, and only swerved at the last second. It scared and annoyed me and I have to admit that I said "idiots" out loud. The response, as the rode on just as fast and nearly hit an elderly woman just behind us, was "shut the f**k up you fat c**t".

As the police and government seem to have decreed that all cyclists are now royalty who can do what they like and break as many laws as they please I suppose they are dispensing with manners along with any concerns for other people's safety or rights.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm alive and kicking. I just haven't seen anything on here that was worthy of a response, just a lot of silly girly bickering. (Saucer of milk, anyone?)

I will die one day, it might be apposite to point out to you that you are also mortal.

I always find it rude and Ignorant when someone comes up to me and says "wheres neil?" or "wheres jason?". It is never "do you know where neil is?" or "do you know where jason is"?. I work ten hour shifts four times a week and I get innumerable buffoons asking me this question.My stock reply of "im sorry, I don"t know, Im too busy with my work" never seems to deter them.MikeP(ompous), please feel free to barge in with your usual moronic adolescent name-calling, I realise how thoroughly eager you are to get to that magic 800 number!
