Amazing isn't it?  Someone has finally realised that there's pretty large number of lazy individuals in this country who are more than happy to sit on their backsides, do nothing and claim benefits.  It's just a shame that it's the Conservative opposition party that's finally woken up to this reality and not the present government.  For once in my life I'm considering voting Tory at the next election and my parents would probably turn in their grave if they knew.

We all know who these people are.  I'm willing to bet that each and every one of us could think of a couple of faces that fall into the "work shy" category.  A friend of a friend, someones son or brother.  They don't work, have never worked and have no intention of working.  They'll sit at home watching daytime telly, spending their benefits on fags and booze.  Maybe they are a bit younger and don't quite fall into that stereotype.  But they know the rules and they play the system just the same.

I'm not talking about people who are genuinely unemployed here.  A couple months between real jobs is one thing, but a couple of jobs in five or ten years is another matter all together.  This is seriously taking the proverbial by the way, and I for one don't like the thought that my (seriously inflated) taxes go towards keeping these benefit scroungers in a comfy lifestyle whilst other more deserving individuals struggle to make ends meet.

A job advert

Some people genuinely can't work for health reasons

The men and women who are genuinely unemployed have my sympathy and deserve help.  They will through their own merit find work and may well still struggle to survive (some employers should be locked up for taking advantage too!), but they'll take pride in themselves and earn a living for themselves.  Likewise some people genuinely can't work for health reasons and they too deserve assistance.  As for the fraudsters who claim incapacity benefit when they know damn well they can work, they ought to be ashamed of themselves.

I just can't understand the all take and no give attitude of these individuals.  How can you feel good about yourself knowing that you spend a large chunk of your life living off other people and giving nothing back?  It would be interesting to see how these leeches would fair if there were no benefits system.

So go ahead, let's get the long term unemployed out doing some useful community work and cut back their benefits.  It might look like a form of punishment for being lazy, but if the cap fits...

I would LOVE to be forced to work rather than get given my pathetic job seekers allowance every fortnight!. Not being employed or doing any work is depressing and my confidence and self esteem are rock bottom. At least I'd feel I wasn't unemployable if I was actually given some work to do. I've gone for any work now, a minimum wage job is great compared to JSA but the few factories that are left aren't taking on and next in line for full time are the Polish/Lithuanian agency workers they have!. I've adjusted my lifestyle now anyway to get by on the peanuts I get. Over 13 years working full time and now look at me, oh well. I wish I could emigrate..to Mars.

Dosser, you miss spelled your name, shouldn't it start with a "T".not a D?
Either your comment meant to be sarcastic, or you are attempting to give genuine claimants (OOPs! sorry, the DSS now call them customers!) a worse image than they deserve. Not every person claiming State benefits shares your attitude.

You forgot to mention that there is nothing to stop them breeding like rabbits at our expense in order to get bigger houses, more money etc either.

Get in touch with your MP's! make your feelings known.

Further to my last message, I have once again been turned down for Disability Living Allowance and must now go through the Appeals procedure to have it reinstated. This will be the FOURTH application I have made for Disability Living Allowance, and the FOURTH time I have had to go through this process. On ALL THREE previous occassions, the Appeals Panel have found in my favour and awarded me the correct level of DLA allowances.
This whole process is demening, and stressfull, and I would GLADLY give it all up if I could find a suitable job and NOT have to depend on State Benefits; the Benefits that I have worked all my life to pay for.
However, the system has now been geared to denying benefits to the people who need them, rather than helping them to the extent that the people who may need them most are forced into poverty.
I hope that the people who administer State Benefits, and those who knock people who depend on them, find themselves in the same position as the Claimants (or "Customers" as they are called now) they strive so hard to deny. assistance too. I think that their views will quickly change.
I am not working because of severe Health problems NOT because I don't wish too.

we want to work but as the csa want £65 out of £200 wages how can we, so yes we are claiming forced onto benefits by another gov dept

P.S to my last comment;
Please stop tarring all people who are forced to depend on State Benefits with the same brush.
If I could get a suitable job I would jump at it today.

I run my own business for over 30 years until forced to give it up due to the Ill health I have suffered for the past 20 years. Since retiring from my business, I have applied for Jobs until I had two ring binders full of rejection letters, and have now given up writing for jobs.
Due to the "Ageism" that pervades industry and commerce in this country, who will give me a job now at 62, and suffering ill health and now registered as Disabled??

I was finally forced onto State Benefits 5 years ago, and have found the whole process totally degrading. The forms for Income Support are so invasive, they want to know how many pieces of toilet paper you use in the loo (well almost). Disability Living Allowance is even worse, and consists of two forms of about 30 pages each to apply for this benefit, so it is NOT as easy as people think to get these benefits.
Each time I apply for Disability Living Allowance, it is ALWAYS turned down By the DLA officials, only to be reinstated on appeal. The Appeals process can be very invasive, and upsetting to go through. So again, I repeat, it is not easy to get these benefits.

I don't know if I am missing something here, but I have worked all my life until recently, yet have a constant battle to get State Benefits. So If someone know more than me on how to get this so called easy money, then please let me know.

Why work for the rich? You have been alienated from the land in the UK. This alienation from the land has violated the laws of nature. Every man, woman and children could have 7 acres each.

Jeff, no probs with the genuinely sick getting benefits. Strange how some don't. My mother, terminally ill, with a spine riddled with cancer and only able to get about - other than short distances - in a wheelchair, was denied invalidity. Having worked all her days up until she retired. (Don't speak to me of pain and invalidity you patronising twatt!) Yet my neighbour, sitting on her fat a**, not having worked in over 20 years, able to go on long walks, pick up heavy shopping, decorate, romp around with kids and dog - she gets it because her suppose "bad back" means she can't work?????

That's the kind of cr*p I mean. She's got her kids statemented as well. Raking it in.

With regards to disabled people finding employment, my son is registered disabled plus he is partially sighted. he is working at the moment as a labourer and pleased to be doing so.Prior to this job he applied to a local scrap yard as they were advertising for a yard man, his application was unsuccessful, however, not to be beaten he applied for the same job with the same firm, only this time he made up an anagram of his own name, guess what,he got the job, they thought he was polish, needless to say he politely turned them down..

A colleague in my office is disabled and in a wheelchair (having lost his legs and the fingers on one hand in a childhood accident) and he is one of the hardest workers I've ever met. Not only does he work in my office but has a second evening job at a customer service desk. He works because he wants to and likes the social interaction. I am convinced that anyone in any situation could work if they really wanted to. The only help he recieved was funding for his van, which was rebuilt inside so he could drive. There are people out there with a fraction of his disability and they refuse to work. I think its a matter of acceptance, self respect, and oppourtunity. But to those who scam the system, I think it is the worst kind of crime.
