I have a gripe with Renault and my Renault Clio.  Around three years ago I stretched my personal finances to buy a Renault Clio 182 Sport from a main dealership in Worcester.  It was my belief that a new car with a warranty would give me hassle-free motoring for at least three years.  As you have probably guessed, I am nearing the end of my warranty period and I am truly petrified of owning the car after the warranty has expired.

Renault Clio 182 Sport

Back to the dealership once a month for three years...

The first problem with my Renault Clio 182 Sport occurred the day after I had purchased it.  Had I known what was to follow, I would have asked that they take the car back there and then.  Since that day I have returned the car to the dealership on no fewer than 30 occasions for warranty repairs to be performed.  Yes, that's right, my Renault Clio has been back to the dealership almost once a month for 3 years!

I am currently awaiting their answer on 2 outstanding warranty repairs and was promised a "call back within the hour".  Well that was nearly nine days ago so needless to say I am not holding my breath here!

The frankly shoddy construction of the car has been compounded by the local dealer's persistent failure to rectify ongoing problems and to cause new problems whilst "working" on the car.  Renault UK are no help at all and refer me back to the dealer.  I am going around in circles trying to get a fully functional car before the warranty expires.  Considering the car has never been fully functional since the 2nd day of ownership I really don't expect this goal to be achieved.

My advice - be careful of Renault dealerships in Worcester, or better still never buy a Renault Clio.  P.S. Please get out of the middle lane unless you're overtaking and don't give me the self righteous "But I'm doing the national speed limit" look as that as it is no excuse!

I have a 182 and have had some problems with the car, but a friend recommended an Independant Renault Dealer in Hanley Swan called Fields. They have been fantastic with none of the usual grief that I got from the Worcester main dealer and lots cheaper. I hope this helps. I love my Renault 182 and it would be sad to have to sell because of my local main dealer.

Just thinking on my comments a hour ago, reference to 'pub experts' wasn't meant to insult Beefmonkey, I meant people who put their penny's worth in back when I was buying my car, obviously Beefmonkey's experience has been totally different, he's every right to speak his mind and it WAS his post to begin with. I thought I'd just point that out, I hope your next car is a winner Beefmonkey.

I shudder to remember some of the bad experiences I have had with car makes having a GOOD reputation, let alone Renault's, yet despite this and previous experience of rubbish Renaults in the 80's, I took the risk with the 182, so that I could drive the car Evo mag described as the best hot hatch ever at the time. It could go bang tomorrow, others will say it WILL, but I think 79k in less than 4 years ain't bad.

Oh well I've already said far more than first intended, I'll let it lie now, cheers

Mmmm I have owned a 182 since new early 2004, 79000 miles, failed brake light switch, OAT sensor and loose exhaust shield, all fixed under warranty. In 32 years driving I have owned or company driven or raced some 45+ cars, incl I think 11 new some co cars were German £25k+. Yes the 182 is not that well built but it cost less than half of some of the others and it hasn't broken down or fallen apart as every pub expert warned me - the trade has even offered me 37% of its original value despite the miles, memory check on an Omega was about 25% similar age/miles. If I had suffered the same problems as on some of the others, I could at least say I had driven possibly the most awe-inspiring FWD car ever in its handling and get-up-and go enjoyment, but I haven't. The running costs are nothing like some of the so-called exotica I have tried to keep running and not one of them could have kept the 182 in sight down a twisty road. I am stunned by this car - all this for a substantially-hand built (by Alpine) car and £15k new?!

Congratulations Rod, for having a Renault that works. Would you like a badge? Or would you like reminding that this thread is not about your fully functional car, but more about mine....which has had a series of faults which Renault have failed to identify/repair.

Who said anything about a "blazing attitude". Who said anything about a lack of courtesy (see that's how it's spelt, Rod)?

The delership and Renault UK have been given every opportunity to rectify the faults and I have done so in a polite and courteous manner. Trading Standards are now involved as I have not had a car "fit for the purpose for which it was sold" for 3 years.

However, many thanks for your valuable input Rodney....

Plonker.

What a load of cobblers.

I've owned Renault for years, and had NO, repeat NO problems with dealerships or any serious problems with any Renault car. What problems have occured have been dealt with in a PROFESSIONAL way by Renault.

If you go into the dealership with a blazing attitude, expect to get treated the same.

As for the new car, WHY didn't you get Trading Standards involved? if what you say happened. you have the "Sale of Goods Act" behind you, and IF you went about it the correct way, You wouldn't have had all the hassle.

A little curtersy goes a long way.

From my experience.... I could not agree more - but the problem is not confined to Clio's or the Worcester area! I live in Kent, and have vowed never to buy another f*@!ing Renault car ever again!! I have owned Fords, Vauxhalls and Rovers over the years (and one Renault). I have never owned such an unreliable car!! (and this is going back a few years). The build-quality is the worst I have ever seen! - truly awfull!! Steer clear of Renaults!!!!! I now have a 4-year old Vauxhall Omega 3.2 MV6 (ex-Police motorway persuit car - it shifts!!!!). No problems :-)
