Regarding the recently implemented smoking ban, I think we have now entered an era of dictatorship in the UK.  I wonder, what is the next topic that the "politically correct" brigade will latch on to and force the government to legislate against?  Do MP's really believe the untrue and manipulated evidence on passive smoking, or do they all have a bit of "PC" dictatorship in them.  Maybe they are all merely lilly-livered ,mindless sheep who follow the politically correct line.

Smoking ban - we are now a dictatorship

Don`t forget parliament once rid the country of a king who thought he was in a position to dictate to the masses.  Take care you members of parliament or you`ll only push the populace into getting rid of you.

If you really feel that a smoking ban is a good thing, then have the courage of your convictions; make tobacco illegal and forego the revenue you collect on the product.  Also, why the double standards?  It would appear that in your eyes smoking is not harmful when partaken within the palace of Westminster.  You have given criminals (in yet another way) more privileges than the law abiding smoker!

Why did you vote for this ban which is in breach of the manifesto by which you came to power?  Many local pubs were struggling for survival prior to the ban.  Does this smoking ban now herald the demise of the traditional British pub?  We are forced to embrace and value alien traditions brought into this country, but parliament it would seem seeks to bury our own!

To my mind this government is nothing more than a fascist dictatorship.  Why on earth have we ever fought for freedom and personal liberties against the foreign jackboot, only to be sold out by our own government?

"It is a form of respect and protection not to smoke where children are simply because they are vulnerable"

What are you protecting children from then? If second hand smoke is not dangerous, then please explain, without being sarcastic or abusive, what you mean?

Are you a father? Would you light up a cigarette in your car with the windows shut with your kids in there? Do you tell your children that smoking is good for you and all the talk of increasing the risk of developing various illnesses is all lies, and give them a fag to shut them up?

Answer the questions please. Do you believe it is good for your toddlers health if you smoke in the same room as them?

It is a form of respect and protection not to smoke where children are simply because they are vulnerable. But there is a big difference between adults and children. Adults like children can be irrational at times and that means they don't really know what they are talking about; they say and do silly things. The hard anti-smoke campaigners are the same ones you find complaining in shops, restaurants, cinemas etc.

They are dramatising something that is not there - they "adopt" the second-hand smoking theory to cover up their dislike for it, it is just a dislike and to justify it they follow what their father "The Authorities" have thought FOR him, and that is second-hand-smoke-kills line.

What a sad story, how sad.

Can't you get a thought of your own?

Oh my God!! Will the last poster please read all the posts before starting the 'prove second hand smoke kills' rant!

Second hand smoke does NOT kill. We will never find anyone who died from second hand smoke. However, second hand smoke CAN increase the RISK of developing illnesses that CAN kill. For this reason alone, it is selfish (and if we really want to be pedantic about it, criminal) for a smoker to expose others to this RISK.

This point has been made numerous times, the post then goes quiet, and then another smoker makes a 'prove second hand smoke kills' statement!

A point that has NEVER been answered is the following:
"If second hand smoke is not dangerous, then would you expose your kids and babies to it?"

We wait......

To all sadly deluded muggins like Kirk, secondhand smoke never killed anyone. This is literally a Government lie. Prove it. Name names!

To all smokers,
I am sad to inform that yes, indeed, smoking kills. What? No, not just you. Everyone else that wants you to put down your happy deathstick. Every year several hundred people in the UK die from lung cancer caused by second hand smoke. Even worser over half of the employees in the UK are exposed to tobacco smoke at work. (http://info.cancerresearchuk.org/healthyliving/smokingandtobacco/passivesmoking/)
It is sickening to see someone take a jolly whiff of their trusty cigarette, then blow into the air for all to share.
And then you smokers believe we have a mental disorder called Smokophobia (not even kidding!)
If it's true then I am an extreme smokophobic as it lists.
Signs for Extreme Smokophobia
You view smoking as sinful, wrong, or "a crime against nature."
You think smoking is unhealthy and kills thousands of people. Smoking is viewed as something to eradicate, even if it requires the force of government to do so.
You see smoking as a stupid, harmful "choice" made by others. Tobacco companies are thought to be motivated by "greed."
Finally there's #6, Enlightenment.
You realize that smoking is a natural and delightful experience for those with that orientation. You advocate smokers rights and embrace the smoking lifestyle as a valid and wholesome expression of the full human experience.
You are not afraid of finding out that you or your children are smokers.
You are even willing to take a puff or two to find out....
I am an ANTI-SMOKER!
I really don't care what smokers will write back and I don't want to start an argument, but
stop smoking.

Some of these anti-smokers make me laugh.

My friend was involved in an accident when a van hit him on the side. He was unhurt but really shaken up about it. A helping citizen offered him a cigarette, he is a non smoker.

He said it was the most calming and soothing experience he could've experienced at this time.

Some people here may experience a similar incident in the future.

My answer to ' Its not a crime to smoke'
I'm sorry but smoking is now a crime ! Just look at the smokers in front of pubs or clubs, gathering like contaminated people... The smoking ban has created segregation between smokers and non-smokers! I suggest a permanent sign to spot all smokers: a black star for instance. The smoking ban must be amended!!! At least half of pubs and clubs must remain smoking establishments in order to respect all liberties! There's one thing Im sure of: if the ban is amended, most people will go to smoking places above all non-smokers just because they enjoy smokers' presence ... (not for their smoke but for their conviviality). Then, who will say that smokers force other to inhale their smoke....

Smoking a ciggarette is NOT a crime here!!!! Why cant you get it into your thick head?

What is a crime, and should have been a long time ago, is forcing others to smoke (by breathing in your smoke) just because you want to smoke wherever you like, to hell with anyone in the vicinity!

When you think about it, the real crime was committed by the Selfish Smokers not having any consideration for others, causing a heavy handed law to be passed as they were unwilling to think of others! The considerate smokers out there should really be looking at them!
*Its not a crime to smoke!!  04-May-2008 10:46

If smoking is so dangerous then ban cigarettes sales!!! Smoking ban is just a fashion imported from Hollywood (No smoking but cocain allowed there!) What is the next step : drinking ban because of liver cancer and violence, driving ban because of pollution and mortal car accidents? You politicians want to protect non-smokers from our lethal smoke , ok! Then, allow pub and club owners to decide for themselves whether they want to be smoking or non-smoking establishments to choose their customers ... How dares Britain teach democracy to the rest of the world when smoking a cigarette has become a crime over here !
Soon, there'll be more freedom in third worl countries and after sex tourism, smoke tourism..
*AFORDAT  02-May-2008 13:48

Digsy, you are wasting your time.
As you can see the Selfish Smoker has missed the point completely. They cannot understand that there may be people who DONT want to smoke or put up with the after effects, and criticise, persecute and ridicule anyone who has an opposing view.

Sounds like Fascism to me!
*anon  22-Apr-2008 13:12

Oh my Lord. I don't like your Fascism. It exasperates. It ensnares everyone it comes in contact with. It makes me choke and sets off my anger. Keep your fascism to yourself, in your own mind and stop infesting others with it. I too like having sex, but not near a fascist.
*Davidus Cambrianus  21-Apr-2008 23:46

Oh my lord you idiot! I don't like your smoke. End of. It smells, it makes smokers smell and the people who surround them. It makes me cough and sets off my asthma however many lists you come up with. Keep your vile habit in your own house please. I like having sex... But I wouldnt do it in public.
