I have always bought Clarks shoes and 58 years after national service, I still stick to the "wear them - polish them" philosophy. I have quite a few pairs and wear them infrequently.  Recently however, the sole and heel has started coming away from a virtually unworn pair and the welt just peeled away altogether.

A pair of shoes

They offered me £10 which I refused...

The manager of a Clarks shoe shop told me that they had had problems with some of the materials on that type of shoe and after speaking to Customer services, they offered me £10 which I refused.  I returned the shoes to the Clarks shoe shop as requested and following complaints to the Chief Executive, they reluctantly increased the offer to £30.  I am disinclined to accept this latest offer either as it would cost me at least £60 to get a new pair and that is virtually what they were.

They did initially have a moan about the age of the shoes, but they are only a few years old and as it happens totally unworn.  I have much older, cheaper, leather shoes which are still perfect condition. After all this fiasco I doubt seriously if I will ever wear Clarks shoes again.

I have since asked them to keep the shoes so that they can be returned to me, but I doubt if they will, in which case I will take this to Trading Standards or the small claims court.  I am as impressed with Clarks customer service as I am with the shoes.  Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I had a pair of Clarks where the sole split. I called customer service, and in five minutes they took down my address and sent me a new pair. All they asked for was the number on the inside of the shoe. That was three days ago. I just put the new pair on, shipped via UPS!

I have a pair of Clarks shoes where the moulded heel has completely collapsed and disintegrated after first wear last week travelling by car to do a supermarket shop. I bought them a couple of years ago but hadn't worn until now. Have tried contacting Clarks via their web site but no response. Found this story whilst trying to find some other way (i.e. phone number) to contact them. Maybe have to consider them as expensive laces!

I've had 3 pairs of Springer sandals fall apart (left pieces of the sole all over the place). The soles broke up like glass. As I type this comment, my Clark clogs have both come apart where the stitching meets the sole. Here I am at work with no backup sneaks to wear!! The entire stitching (rubber strip and all has come apart). NO MORE CLARK SHOES. If I want to buy junk shoes to fall apart, I'll buy Chinese. At this rate, that will be where most of our shoes will come from anyway. At 1/3 the price, who is to blame?

Hi I have just had a pair of clarks shoes fall apart, They are 7 years old but hardly worn,
contacted clarks and they told me I hadent stored them properly, humidity, temp etc.
I wouldnt mind but I paid £75.00 for them all the leather uppers, heal lining are near perfect same as the sole, the rubber welt between the uppers and sole just perish.
Material used not fit for purpose, wont buy any more from clarks.

I have had three pairs of pricey Clarks shoes which, although carefully looked after and otherwise in excellent condtion, simply came apart at the junction between the leather upper and the synthetic sole. The failure is not of the thread used for stitching, it is a design-cum-material fault ; the part of the sole stitched to the upper ( i.e with holes through it) is simply not strong enough. Clarks must know this very well by now. One can only conclude that Clarks are content to sell shoes with a built-in fault, perhaps because it guarantees a realtively shorter life!!

I've had exactly the same problem with two pairs of womens shoes i've had for a few years but seldom worn. The uppers are in very ggod condition but the soles ddiintegrate without warning. Complained to Clarks, told to take to local shop, manager said that this type of sole (synthetic) will disintegrate in time. I said this hadn't been aproblem with Gabor shoes and other makes and perhaps they should put a use by date on them! I mentioned this saga to a friend who said he'd had the smae problem with Clarks shoes.

I had the same problem yesterday with my blue Clark clogs. They fell apart while I was at work and I limped through the day. I'll try what Clark's Lover says and call the company. I have many Clark's as they feel good on my feet and come in size 11.

Yes I had a pair of Clarks shoes, only worn them once, put them in wardrobe, a couple of years passed decided to wear them to go on holiday. Within one hour of wearing them the soles just disintegrated, leaving me with no soles and a coach floor covered in bits to my embarrassment.

Took them back to Bristol Causeway Clark's shop, explained situation to Manager, he just said we don't do those stye anymore and that was it.

Clark's lost a loyal customer.

My sons Clarks shoes (3 pairs) seem to only last 6 months. When my wife took them back to the store we were told the heels falling apart was normal wear and tear.
I had these shoes as a kid and they lasted over 12 months and we were rough on shoes.
The quality of the product is appaling but the price remains the same.
Cheap workmanship at a premium price.

Add me to the list of disappointed Clark fans. On Tuesday, my navy clogs separated from the sole and then the sole cracked and crumbled into pieces. I had to wrap dental floss around and around to hold them together while I was at my dental appt. By the time I arrived home, the other shoe had started to separate as well. I agree with others--it is defective material used in the soles of the shoes--as mine were practically new. I expected more from a $60 shoe.

My red Clark shoes fell apart yesterday. Called the company and they are sending out a replacement pair. That's my idea of excellent Customer Service. I will keep buying their product.
