How much longer must we put up with the insane system of Council Tax imposed on us in this country?  I'm a pensioner, living in a tiny one-bedroom flat in London.  My Council Tax bill is over £1,200 a year and it takes away about one fifth of my pension - so work out what they leave me to live on!

Rats in the rubbish, Where does your Council Tax go?

If I owned a similar flat in Spain for example, my Council Tax would be more like £140 per year.  So what is it that they get right that we get so obviously wrong in this country?  It's simple.  In Spain such items as Police, Education, Health, Hospitals, etc.  are paid for by central government.  Local Councils only pay for such things as street cleaning and lighting, rubbish collection, etc.  (i.e. residents' priorities).

The Spanish system is fairer as it allocates national costs to the tax payers of the whole country (sharing these costs proportionately among the people who can most afford them) instead of penalizing a minority who are being taxed out of existence.

It's clear the Spanish system is better and we must ask why we perpetuate our out-dated methods.  Simple: UK Councils employ huge numbers of staff (many in non-essential, meaningless jobs) which not only carry inflated salaries, but they also draw "gold-plated" pensions as well, protected from inflation by index-linking which causes them to rise automatically every year.  There is no ceiling to these rises and the Councils must pay them forever.  The projected cost of such pensions is now hundreds of billions of pounds and Councils are still recruiting staff!

Councils now see that the cost of such pensions is spiralling out of control and they are desperately raising our taxes to pay for them.  Even more iniquitous, Councils are now getting rid of essential spending commitments so that they can divert more money to pension’s funds.  Guess why they're really switching to fortnightly rubbish collections?

Adopting the Spanish system would probably put about a penny onto our Income Tax (expenditure would be lower following such centralisation).  Income Taxpayers and Council Employees will therefore not be happy.  But they are living in a fools' paradise if they imagine the UK system can continue.  More and more Council Taxpayers are finding it impossible to pay these unfair charges.  When financial meltdown comes in a few years time, everyone in the country is going to feel the consequences.

I am retiring to Portugal. I am going to sell my flat here in London and buy a nice property on the Silver Coast. I will create a pension of £20,000 p.a. from the surplus + state pension + work pension, I will enjoy a total of nearly £40k per year without mortgage. And the Council Tax and Water Rates are much lower. I won't own a car, and will only rent one when necessary.

Whether in France, Italy, Germany and almost in any other country these people that call themselves "Tax Office" are a bunch of crooks.

They TAX (steel) money from individuals under the pretence of "service" or "to fund" hospitals etc. But you cannot refuse their "service".

Many people really think that that is the way things are and lead a life of "what can I do, I am just one...” But it is single individuals that change things for the better or for the worse.

Some people fear the "change". But just imagine what a beautiful world this would be without taxes and without thieves where people would give money on a voluntarily basis and where politicians will be put aside for not doing their job.

Single individuals are those that count, the "masses" - let's leave to the communists.

Spread the word and we shall win.

Taxation of French property
Local Taxes
There are two local property taxes in France which are both based on the property's theoretical rental value according to the local land registry, and is adjusted in line with inflation. The rates of tax will vary from region to region due to the varying rates of tax imposed by the regional and local governments.

Habitation Tax (Taxe d'Habitation)
The occupier of the French property is liable for this tax. It is due of the 1st January. There are exemptions for over 60s and also if the property is incapable of occupation due to it needing extensive renovation. The test if whether the property is furnished and whether you can convince the local mayor. This first is residential tax is for the provision of local services.

Fundamental Tax (Taxe Foncière)
The owner of a French property is usually liable for this tax, also known as 'impôt foncier', a land tax which is generally payable in one lump sum on the 1st January in each year.

The taxe foncière is the more expensive of the two taxes, sometimes twice the amount of the taxe d’habitation.

I consider charging INCOME TAX, or indeed any tax a crime.

Tax was introduced by the Egyptians I think (not as we know it now) and then by the Greeks. But those that really made it official were the Romans; in fact they are the ones that created the first census to collect taxes (anyone can correct me on this).

I saw a video on youtube that talks about TAX in the USA. A guy asked a government official to show him the law that obliges an individual to pay tax: this law does not exist! Collecting taxes and threatening people for not paying should be illegal in any "civilised" country as you can only get money if you work.

The people in governments should govern: that is all.

Money to build roads, schools, hospitals etc. should be paid for by what people CONSIDER should be given to them.

Income tax should be illegal and so those who are parasites hiding themselves behind "legality" which has never existed.

Income tax is theft, there is no other way to call it.

I think that is enough for now.
Think people...and think again.

It doesn't stop with Council Tax. Councils now want to make money out the public in whatever way they can.

Camden Council wants to encourage residents to think about the way they get around and the impact that this has on climate change and air quality. Consequently, Camden is introducing a new system of charging for residents’ parking permit based on the emissions that cars produce . The new system is being introduced in August 2007.

Camden has no legal authority to do this at all. The Councils must be stopped intheir tracks on this.

Council Taxes in other conutries are far far lower than in the UK. Garbage collection is also charged for separately.

Our local councils are dens of iniquity and corruption. Don't call it local democracy if you can't remember the name of your local councillor.

Look how Councils are running Car Parking control, to see what they are really like

We are taxed like this because there are over 5 million civil servant jobs. Those just pushing paper around could all go tomorrow and we'd survive, no problem!

Sadly, this bloated drag on the country also has the right to vote. They ain't going to be too quick to vote for anyone who wants to get rid of them!

Council tax, like all other kinds of stealth tax, is only there because central government wants to "look good" by not raising headline taxes like VAT and Income Tax. The burden is passed to COuncil Tax, and to a whole range of other less obvious taxes.

Just remember if you are paying high COuncil Tax it is because Central Government has arranged it that way.

As for the local councils they should all be closed down. We should pay for the individual services we need or want separately, that is separate charges for

a) Library use
b) Garbage collection
c) Use of certain bridges, roads and streets
d) Road sweeping
e) Schools

etc. should exist. If you don't use them why should you pay?

Its all very well. So what are you guys doing about. Yes, I guessed it,. Using your democratic rights of free speach and all. Wake up you all being fleeced. The powers to be who you place there are lining their pockets.

The Council Tax system was only created to collect more money and suppress people - don't you see it? Well look at it objectively and you will realise.

The Council Tax system is NOT meant to work at all, the word "services" is just a screen.

If citizen’s participation in the affairs of the State (which has always been low) does not increase you will soon see a lot more taxes: County Tax, Borough Tax, Province Tax, Neighbourhood Tax, and so on. Also, if the participation becomes lower than it is now, we might get a dictatorship in the not so very distant future.

I am sorry to sound so negative, but to pretend this is not the case is in itself an act of suppression.

All yours,

Swansea City Council recently gave a Polish family 14'000 pounds to buy a people carrier so that they can visit their family in England they said it was cheaper than paying for them to go first class

That's where the money goes = on immigrants.
