Sky have now changed the format of their movie channels and in my opinion, Sky Movies can no longer be considered the same value for money that it once used to be.  Maybe they thought that it was a clever move because it has allowed them to reduce the amount of movies they air, this may well reduce their costs and increase their profits, but I think that in the end it will eventually just lead to more cancellations from subscribers.

Sky Movies, revamped - still too many repeats!

With the number of repeats shown these days...

Besides, with the huge number of repeats shown these days you would be better off raiding the bargain bin down at the supermarket.  It made me laugh recently when they put on that old movie "The Karate Kid".

How can they consider that to be a modern film?  Come on Sky, let's have one or two blockbuster movies at least and a few less repeats!

Maybe like some other large companies in the UK I could mention, they are simply out to rip off as many people as possible and have no idea of what good customer service is.  I do hope not, but it certain feels like that and as a result, I decided to cancel my Sky subscription this morning.

At the moment I am actually looking at a broadband TV provider in the US.  They are offering me a better choice of programmes and features for the same money that I currently pay Sky.  How can I refuse?  If this service is any good I will of course spread the word and promote it on some of my own personal web sites.

Why should we put up with the same old recycled movies again and again?  Well we can vote with our feet and maybe, just maybe, someone at Sky will listen.

I have the full sky package. I think it fantastic value. At weekends I watch great programmes on Anytime TV in HD format. The best thing sky have ever done in my opinion. I have always something to watch that I've recorded onto the hard drive. I dint know what people are moaning about really, maybe they should get out more!

If you try to get rid of sky movies they will offer you all sorts of deals to keep you, but if you ask if they have offers available to make it worthwhile to subscribe you get somebody who can not speak english asking you to confirm your details repeatedly, they then inform you that unless you have a letter there is nothing available but you can have a sky talk package ( you don't need a letter for that) they really take the piddle out of their customers. very poor value.

I cannot belive sky doesn't see this hatred towards the new system!!! Also "Modern Greats" is showing army of darkness twice whithin about 7 hours, hhhmmm not repeating there, and on "Modern Greats" again twice within about 7 hours showing twice is.. Grease 2!!! Where do you get your data sky?

What you lot don't seem to realise is that Sky are trying to pull the wool over viewers eyes by making it LOOK LIKE they have loads to offer by having half a dozen or so movie channels to try and justify a £40 quid direct debit charge. They do this by repeating all their tat' round and round their channels. I call this a rip-off and is another reason for not buying Sky rubbish, so why do you?

Hey guys I work for sky what a lot of people dont realise is that hollywood make 400 movies per year and of those 400 about 250 are put onto the sky movie channels a year now sky show 400 movies a week! so they need to be repeated otherwise there would be weeks(52) multiplied by films a week (400) 20800 different films a year! there are simply not enough films being made to have different movies 24hours a day.

Family and friends all totally fed up with the new film set up. Premier 2 channels show the same film for one week, and the rest seem to be showing old films which can be viewed on free view or terrestrial channels. Classic films, are on TCM or most afternoons on BBC, modern classic means old films shown regularly on free channels, indie, means made on the cheap, what exactly are we getting for our money? One premier film a week?

Everyone I speak to is not at all happy, come on Sky Movies get your act together.

Well..it seems that all my griping revolves around our media service and saying as there is not much competition and that the powers that be are slowly removing our homely options and just slipping in overcharging and poor service then again..its SKY!

There is now really only one media service for us to have and its provided by SKY.. Although the packages are fraught with endless repeats and adverts unfortunately. Who has anything else to offer? Again it is us, the customers that seem to be getting roped into purchasing a monthly package only to find SKY slowly increase the monthly package premium and reduce the options they provide - namely sky movies..301 and 302. They are now the same channel just an hour behind each other and they do not play around the clock, they also they play the same films for a full week I believe. Also, the other movie channels have been categorised, again reducing options. Nice one SKY, another money saver for you?

Its actually worrying what else they will get away with on time to come. Bah humbug!

Sky Movies, I'll explain the set up for you guys!
Sky Movies Modern Greats, is films from 1975 up to the present date!
Sky Movies Premier, are films which have not yet been shown on sky movies, or just come off the Box Office which customers want
Sky movies Comedy explains itself
and Sky Movies Family, Drama, Sci-Fi/Horror and Action also explain themselves
Sky Movies Classics are films up to 1975!

There are now gonna be changes to the movie format aswell, 2 new channels SKy SD1 and SD2 will be introduced, showing the HD channel films, of on Standard Definition for the people who do not have the luxury of HD!
also Some of the channels that start later will now start earlier. Sky Movies is great value for money, you're still getting around 400 movies a week, and there are LESS repeats that before! Also, Sky can only play what they have the rights for, if movie studios decide that they want a film on Box Office then that's how it is!

The new Sky TV movies format is quite frankly an insult to suscribers. The majority of the movies are between 10 & twenty years old and too many are dull B-movies, Why the family movie channels is still showing childrens films after 11pm is beyond me. It has also not escaped my attention that the HD channels now show more up to date and far better movies than the regular digital channels. This is outrageous. HD customers pay extra for the HD transmissions not superior films. I will cancel my subscription if this blatant attempt to push everyone into an HD suscription is not reversed quickly.

Pay-per-view is the only way. If you don't want to watch it don't pay for it up front. All these subscription based movie channels are nothing but a rip-off. They project movies which are "old", and have done their cinema days. They have also all probably had their first full price DVD release, and just about ready to be have their second, far cheaper DVD release.

Note that the real blockbusters take years to reach the TV screen.

The second problem with subscription based movie channels is that their movie library is actually very small, perhaps 2,000 actual movies. That size compares with a tiny branch sub-library if it were books. A real movie channel would have something like 10 times as many movies for you to choose from.

Eventually the internet will replace sattelite TV subscription altogether, as people realise that DVDs are far cheaper. Freeview movie channels already carry free art cinema movies. The Internet will have huge libraries of movies where and when you want to watch them on a pay per view basis.

At the moment it is big money and monopolies which are interfering with real market choice. And copyright laws are still in the stone age.

Switch off Sky and don't waste your money.
